It was intended to fly at mach 2.5+, but was only Alumunium Alloy, so the plus bit was optimistic
As a Challengologist that sounds like a severe case of Bristol?

And that sounds like a box of Sherry but it's not a Bristol project.

I see.

Unfortunately Dr Trevor, I must leave my rooms for the moment. If the challenge condition should deteriorate quickly, please call my locum Dr Ken in Wales. I will endeavour to return later this evening.

Also please keep an eye on my intake challenge.

Professional regards.
Dr Noyade.

Good Moring Doctor Ken

An excellant diagnosis

It is indeed the Vickers R.156T (aka Vickers Type 799 and SP.4)

Operational Requirement 330 (OR.330) started life as a 1954 requirement for a high altitude, high speed reconnaissance aircraft.

The gamble of alloy manufacture precluded the Type 799 at the first stage as it could never increase itís speed. Itís range of 3000 miles was also inferior to the contract winning Avro 730ís 4250 miles. Soon after awarding the contract, the requirement was updated to include a bombing capability. The contract was scrapped with the Bristol 188 technology demonstrator flying, and the Avro 730 prototype half built.

Thanks Trevor. Another one of those fantastic what-if's. Would have been at home in Thunderbords!

Something altogether slower now:

Artnoon Ken - just popping in.

What kind of engine is that?!!! Mucho weirdo stuff at the front, with something which seems to emanate from the spinner!

Looking at what I think is the pitot probe, do I assume that the wing is a long way forward?

French job?

Afternoon David. Not really sure on the weirdo stuff at the front. It's an Aeronca engine, but the challenge is not. I don't think the wings are a long way forward...the view is from slightly behind the aircraft, so the starboard wing tip appears almost level with the spinner.

Afternoon Ken,

Sorry, been rather busy today and had to go out!

I think that your challenge is the Hants and Sussex Aviation Herald ?
