No mate - it just looks late twenties-early thirties.

It's the wing which is interesting. Gorra plan view?

A good question it is too Reg, I guess they're waiting for some expert to fill in the gaps or unearth a lost archive, but hey, you're the German around here !! Maybe just mysterious gaps?

I've often wondered what "One thru Six Up" tasted like, or what properties were lacking in WD-1 thru WD-39 ?? Unlike Heinz 57, which had a logical explanation!

Not an Albatros BTW

I am not the German here, but BTW is the challenge one? THAT would fill the most current mysterious gap.

Although most were two seaters, did this thing have anything to do with the 1930 Touring Competition?

A periscope isn't mentioned anywhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one as the forward view can't have been that good!

No perhaps about it Mel; it is indeed the Wagener HW 4

Well done !! You have Control

Here is a rather poor goggle translation of its description, there's also a picture without any info on Aviastar.

The single-seater sports type of aircraft 4 HW Wagener, Hamburg Airport is a strutted high-wing aircraft. Zweiholmig wing, double T-beams, split in half. Spars on rectangular strips of 5 x 8 mm with both sides laminated plywood edges. Spier at 400 mm, on top of the wing also between the bars to improve the conservation profile of the auxiliary spars.

Nose to the front spar plywood, canvas covered everything else. Vertical posts in wood have a strong vertical web, the design with plywood planking

Control surfaces are in wood, fabric bespanntDie damping surface by a respective Duralstrebe from the front and rear spar and brace for the fuselage. The rudder is actuated by direct cables. That elevator has full control stick up to the penultimate fuselage mounted lever cables and from there to the elevator doors steel bumpers. The ailerons have direct cables.

Wooden hull, designed in its basic design rectangular cross-section of shape corresponding to a bar dodecagon. This is achieved that the same smooth lines and has the fabric covering nowhere Spcrrholzecken etc.mark.

Behind the driver's seat in the top hatch a spacious luggage compartment, which also functions as zor accommodation of the parachute. Before the fire engine mount bulkhead of steel tube is placed removable. Bock wings in front of the driver's seat on tubular steel fuel tank. Filler is in the nose wing.

Chassis with a continuous steel tube axis, the lateral pressures to take two mid-fuselage to current steel pipes. Radgröbe 510 x 75 mm. Spur of ash in all directions rotate.

The cell was built for trying out new two-stroke aircraft engines and is now 14 - were flown and 20 hp engines. It has arrow-shaped by their extraordinary stability of 10 ° moments, which do not affect one other very good flight characteristics.

For the normal series production of the first new 30-hp-grade engine is provided. It can also be integrated easily with other motors around the same weight and same power.

Type HW 4 HW 4A
Engine Ursinus 1 U 2 1 hard mountain Pakisch 20 HP or 1 FP 1
