Was it a Fred Weick design for NACA? The Ercoupe & Cherokee influences are there.

Ah so RR, you did say it was American but you didn't say North American did you

it's the Triciclo-Experimental manufactured by the Central Workshops of the Chilean Air-Force, the Maertranza Central de Aviacion at Santiago !

Edited to say that I see that WK has pipped me to it, blasted work!! Well done and welcome back! Good Challenge RR

Also, that I see that we're now based on the the US West Coast Time Zone

Thanks skytrain,

I have a feeling that it's likely to be in Walter's lovingly compiled book of around 6000 aircraft geeneral aviation aircraft, although it may be a tad early for that!

As for me, good old (some say) "Fright Archive", which, once you have an idea of the year and can do a one word search is pretty good!

air force | royal aero | aero club | 1949 | 0190 | Flight Archive

I see our late lamented friend William Green took the photo, so it's very likely to be in one of his books (if only I had some)!

I had a look in 'The Aircraft of the World' by William Green and Gerald Pollinger (Macdonald 1965), whcih is normally a good source of obscure stuff, but it wasn't in there...

SincoTC, Well done on finding it the the Flight Archive . I didn't get any links to it and that was after we knew what it was.

I am back, well and fit.
Well done mate. Reg, we'll never meet but my heart goes out to you. My father died of bowel cancer and my wife nearly died from it.

Off the thread I would say: gentlemen, get your colon examined when over 50
I seriously recommend 40, especially if there is a family history.

Where I live, the basic health insurance system foots prophylactic coloscopies for all who want and are over 55.
That's a great idea! But I still think 55 is too late in life...But we (Oz) can't talk, we only offer a "dipstick **** test" after 50 and couldn't even get that right first time round!...

Do it. Just Do. If you want more encouragement, please feel invited to PM me.
Ditto.

Thanks Noyade, I know exactly what you are talking about! If we can make one person go and get his/her polyps removed before they get bad, we have earned our day.

On your lighter note, are we talking about an Anzani engine and a radiator on one side (cheek?), visible in the challenge on the aircraft's right side

Sorry mate, my coffee wasn't very strong this morning...and I've stuffed up somewhat with this.
I had a look at Mel's list after I posted it. I was staggered to learn that in a way I have already posted it...well the more recognisable version that is. So rather than delete I'll press on...here's a partial line drawing of the nose...it was eventually altered and they produced thousands...

Thanks Noyade!

However, I have to turn in (it is 23:20 over here). So, it is Open House. Have a good nite!

PS: Edit to say, that it was too easy after the clue: With 5,329 produced it had made its way to Wikipedia's List of most produced aircraft, where 5,000 is the limit, and it was the second biplane from the bottom.
