It's a lot older than you might think.

Well that's a shame.

Speaking of Russians. You showed me a photo of formating with a Bear. Ever do the some with a Badger, Blinder or Backfire or did they not venture close to the British coast?

I'm not thinking of anything mate?!

formating
Spellcheck doesn't like that. Probably not a real word. Then again spellcheck doesn't like "spellcheck".

No, they didn't, although one night a Badger did venture some way down the North Sea, but not very far before turning North again.

The supersonic jobs never probed NATO airspace as far as I know.

That's because it's American not English. English is not spoken in America.

A cranked wing, twin boom, floatplane with a single tractor engine and made some time ago.

American?

Just interested but did the Bears ever look like they meant business? I mean did they ever look obviously armed, missile wise (Kennel?) and heading straight for London or such. Did you ever think "Sh!t, this could be it!?" Or was it always a cat and mouse mundane affair? You know what I mean?

Basically Tom & Jerry.

They were usually intercepted going through the Faeros gap NW of Scotland. By the time they got there, the Norwegian Air Force would have intercepted them already.

If they went really long range and then to the Icelandic gap, then tha USAF would have a go at them too.

Never armed, and the remote-laid 23mm cannons in the tail were always parked at zero azimuth and maximum elevation.

Friendly crews usually - we even caught one where a rear crew member in the tail blister waved a bottle of Coca Cola!

The Stig again!!!!!

Morning TC - your control again.

If you can't get anything up (if you'll forgive the phrase) it will again be disappointing. Graeme will be in combat air patrol mode.......

Not for long mate. James Bond and "Licence to Kill" starts soon.

Look, I know I'm annoying you, but the point I'm trying to make is was it ever feasible/possible for a Russian bomber to strike Britain? I'm starting to think it was impossible, from what you're telling me?

You're not annoying me.

Perfectly possible, but the Bears normally operated from the North Russian coast and there was a lot of NATO stuff between them and us.

Theoretically they could also use stand-off missiles approaching from Europe, but there would be lots of stuff in their way again.

You talking to me? What's next?
From what TC said earlier, most likely an OH.

Sorry for the delay gents, I was just posting when our electricity supply went down and had to wait for the juice and then the computers to come back on line

It is Open House again, I'll have to go and sort out some problems in the workshop. CNC machine tools dont like that kind of shutdown and are too big for UPS! Bugger Bugger!!
