Was/is it intended to be a racer, LM? I can't imagine what else you'd use it for! Its like a flying suppository!!! (not that I'd know!)

I'm given to understand that in some circles such things are just what the doctor ordered..... or the plumber!

Is it a "Tall Boy" pretending to be an aeroplane, LM?

It's no Tall Boy, and was a bit later than Barnes Wallis - it was a real aeroplane.

The image is a silhouette of a photograph taken during its' roll out.

Slowly! A lot on today so just checking when I have breaks. I'm guessing its a comparitively recent design largely as it doesn't show on one of the more popular air racing websites?

Designed to set a speed record for its class, which I think was sub-300kg, not for Formula One racing.

Never competed - crashed on landing.

Sub 300 kgs would technically put it in the microlight category....would the attempt have been to break the microlight speed record?

I am not sure of that one mate.

It was only 14ft long, so you may well be correct.

It's dry weight was 410lbs. (and that in itself is a clue)

Well done on the VMAX...I have been looking through Aerofiles on and off for the last hour...never found it! Nice one LM.

I Googled "Air Racer 410lbs"
How did you come to 410 lbs? I was doing the same at 300 kgs, but got nowhere....oh well

Your latest looks familiar....I'm guessing American? Unfortunately I'm going offline soon so I'll see if its still running later on.

Yes, a yank

I'm hitting the road soon too... Catch you all(?) later....

By the way, don't miss Ice Pilots tonight, 21:00 Quest 154 on Sky, if throbbing and rumbling P&Ws and the whirr of Allisons on an Electra are for you!
