A lot of flying boat concepts were traded around between the wars, between Short Bros. and Breguet being a good example as alluded to above.
This aircraft was from neither of these fine companies however.
The successor to the company in question still has operational maritime aircraft in service.

A Beriev perhaps? Maybe an MBR-2?

I follow your thinking, SHO. However, this aeroplane was not from Beriev.

I'd realised I was mistaken, I found a pic of the Beriev, the fin was much pointier on it!

Kawanishi E11K. From Bri evans.
Well done!
A predecessor to the highly successful Kawanishi H8 series ( Emily) flying boats, only a couple were used by the Japanese Naval Air Force.
Kawanishi was resurrected in 1949 as Shin Meiwa and eventually produced the PS-1 and derivative big four turboprop flying boats and amphibians which are in service in Japan to this day.
Evansb , please take a well deserved control!

Sorry, not Edwardian. Not from the U.K. Aircraft built in the late 1920s.

Sorry, not the Wagener HW-3. The mystery ship flew two years earlier, and was not powered by an Argus engine.

Not the Caspar CLE 16. It is similar in design to some Caspar products, however.
The mystery ship was designed by an enigmatic engineer who started out building gliders, and once tested solid fuel rocket boosters on a purpose-built glider. The mystery ship was powered by this engine:

Thanks for the clues Bri. Would the mystery craft be a Espenlaub Schlepps?

It is an Espenlaub, but not the Schlepps. The mystery aircraft had a model number.
