Looked long at the one (Klemm-Siebel) that Kesselring used to fly around Africa, but it did not look right…..

No links to Siebel (or Klemm) that I am aware of. And therefore not the Aero D.44.

Was it in fact manufactured under license to someone not in Czechoslovakia and appears under some other than Czech designation?

From the information available it appears to be a home grown aircraft, which was produced (only 1 built) by a Czech manufacturer.

Not a Letov 101 Mel.
