It is, most definitely, a Bartel BM-4b.
WINGS PALETTE - Bartel BM-4/BM-5 - Afghanistan
I'm going to be k.o. soon (the Guinness was reeeeally good, David... even better than the strawberries...) and will spend tomorrow at work, so OH please if correct
Best regards,
HP

Edit: Wikipedia states that the "b" variant (can be recognized from lower exhaust pipe in the airwar.ru comparative table) is powered by a Walter Vega 5 cylinder, 85 hp. I initially thought that your silence regarding Reg's answer was to be interpreted as tacit consent, but then noticed a familiar nose shape while browsing aviastar...

Did you say very easy?

It's not in my early flying boats of the world directory.

I'll be off for the dentist in 15 minutes.

A couple of clues: 41 were built. The difference between the prototype and the production version was more to do with cooling the engine down than warming it up.

There's something not right with your silhouette at the top of the engine.

Maybe therefore the model 71 - not that I can see much difference.

Mate it is the Macchi M.41bis.

Now that you mention it, I may have silhouetted some small openings between the wing and the engine; I should have seen some light of the day through there .

The difference between prototype M.41 and the bis is that the radiator is "oblique frontal"in the prototype and and "vertical" in the production version.

The difference of the M.71 (which was for catapulting) were
stronger wing cellule and catapult pick-up points and, to facilitate rapid assembly and disassambly during shipboard operations, it had inclined steel tube struts between the hull, interplane struts, and upper wing section instead of the M.41bis's bracing wires
Over to you Mate
