Morning RD. I was thinking that with the clues this would not be too difficult to find...WRONG! The usual searches in Aerofiles have turned up nothing. I have however found what I suspect is the same item that LM had discovered, but as he says that refers to a 1931 design. Time to expand the search....would the engine be a Continental A40?
Good morning Ken.
This one is a sod.
Like you, I at first thought it would be fairly straightforward to find. I have tried the Popular Science archives - nothing.
Certainly the challenge aeroplane was not the first to be so-equipped.

Good morning David. I'm beginning to take the view that its not in Aerofiles, or at least if it is, there is no reference to its contra rotating prop, nor Fort Macarthur (note correct spelling!). Yes I tried popular science but as you say nothing. The engine has a distinct resemblence to those on certain Cub models, hence my comment.
Agreed.
1935 Fort Macarthur brought up nothing, and neither did Aerofiles.
Speaking for myself, I think I shall need to wait for another clue.
Please check PM in a couple of minutes.

Artnoon gentlemen, sorry for my slow.
LM's got it: Radioplane Target Drone RP-5A.
3,865 built.
Light (104 lb) and silly (build so many to destroy them with "friendly fire" )
The spelling of Fort MacArthur was that way in the source: Model Aviation Magazine July, 1992.
Your thread LM
