SAL-J is Scottish Aviation Limited - Jetstream
Turbomeca Astazou powered version.
IIRC the thumb wheels were to bring the rpm up slowly from ground to flight range because if you pushed the small levers too quickly the engine would over temp.

Great challenge Graeme. It was the cockpit surround that caused me problems. Here is the next, somewhat older than yours.

This one was not Russian. As regards the view from the passenger cabin I would say from a crew compartment.

Bri. The aircraft in question Donnet-Denhaut DD8/9 but was the Donnet-Denhaut Bimoteur or DD10 the aircraft first flew 24 April 1918.
