What Cockpit? MK VI
An airship. German?
Schütte-Lanz SL11, shot down by Leefe Robinson VC on 3 September 1916. It is interesting that these airships were always referred to as Zeppelins in the press.
Great challenge, bri. I initially considered Schütte-Lanz airships, but discarded that idea because of their wooden construction since I thought the gondola in your picture was aluminium/aluminum.
However, on closer examination, it looks like elegant carpentry to me.
I love the engine-room telegraphs.

I've just discovered my next cockpit has been done before, so OPEN HOUSE.

Much of the airship framework was built from wood unlike most Zeppelins which were mainly of metal construction, hence the large metal cage characteristic of most airship wrecks is absent.
All 16 of the airships' crew died in the crash at Cuffley, a small village on the outskirts of London, where in spite of objections by some civilians they were given a full military funeral, the coffins being carried by the officers and men of the Royal Flying Corps.

Photo inscription: "The Scene at the graveside".
Funeral of Commander Wilhelm Schramm and the 15 crew of the SL11, RFC officers and men are bearing the coffins.
