Vulcan to the Sky, The End? (Merged)
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
Risky, then he got promoted and posted to RAF PR
If the inevitable 'song and flower' festival soon to be held chez vous is conducted with taste (?) it would make a darn good theme for next year's calendar - possibly securing more funds for the Vulcan.
BTW did the 'naked calendar' theme from a couple of years' ago featuring a Sqn Boss et al land them in the mire or was it regarded as brilliantly original, slightly risque but forgiveable?
We all thought it was great!!
Well done Beags you're a bally hero........

Not yet, I'm still looking for the right kind of rose...
Future funding will probably come in the form of a job at McDonalds, depending on how the no coffee chat with Harry goes, a role normally set aside for ex Navs.

Who's selling the tickets for the big event - worth at least £10 per head (donated to a worthy cause like Children in Need of course) I would have thought?
At least there'd be a delayed laugh in November explaining to Terry Wogan on BBC1 how the money was raised!!!

Just been a piece on BBC Midlands today. A few good vintage shots and a terrific handlebar moustache!!
Quote from a Mr Endomndson that they've raised £170'000 of the required £250'000.

But the Dr says they need £200,000.
He also said he had a pledge for £60,000.
Once again the numbers run like lottery balls.

I think it would be better to take more notice of the figures on the club site - the Trust site is all but discredited for up to date info (except the message board). The club treasurer is also a Trustee (and has been on site at Bruntingthorpe most working days along with the engineers) and has been driving the fundraising over the last few weeks, so I think I would trust her figures!

And her figures are?
Sorry, if the good doctor says they need £200,000 out of £250,000 and that he had received one pledge for £60,000 then the number simply fail to add up.
Did they need £250,000? How much have they got? How much remains to be raised?

There was a 5 minute slot on BBC Look North this evening with Dr F and Dave T. There was footage of 558 and also AAR.
Could have been an old interview (in news terms). Unlike the original on-the-wing interview this was good face-to-face stuff.
PS I seem to recall he did say £200,000 by tomorrow which suggests it was today's interview.

I believe the www.vulcantotheskyclub.com web site is going to be updated around 7 - 7.30 tomorrow morning with some positive news.

Vulcan campaign now at over £600,000 pledged, plus £170,000 in cash. Good for rollout out tomorrow, good for first test flight and should be good for June 17 Falklands anniversary flypast over Buck House.
Hooray!!!

Clearly what Dr F was refering to was hard cash. The pledges will go towards the £1.25m.

dunflying
I flew XH558 just twice at 230 OCU, RAF Finningley; once on 18 April 1967 with Flt Lt Ken Gowers as my instructor on a 3 hour sortie & the next day, for the first time, as a brand-new Captain on a 4 hr 20 min trip. I was posted to 83 Squadron at Scampton & never did see XH558 again till a few years ago at Bruntingthorpe. Since then, like so many of you good people, I have supported the numerous fund-raising activities.
I feel huge distress that, having come this far, this magnificent Cold War warrior is now at risk of never flying again. What is the matter with this country? Even little New Zealand has enthusiasts like Sir Tim Wallis at Wanaka & Mr Subritzky in Auckland who have spent their own hard-earned on restoring & flying a huge number of old aircraft. Where are the Richard Bransons, Alan Sugars, Andrew LLoyd-Webbers & the like, men who always seem to be seeking publicity? What a chance for a knight on a white charger to step in & save the project.
I guess the project is technically insolvent. This is presumably why they are taking only pledges & not real money & why they have had to put out redundancy notices to staff. The law requires this. Very sad &, it must be said, there is the unmistakeable whiff of bad handling in the air. No, not the aircraft! She always handled beautifully.
Keeping everything crossed & hoping for something of a miracle.

The news looks encouraging. The comments about insolvency etc., seem to reflect the reality of the situation, but if all the stories about the Trust (and in particular the tales regarding Felicity Irwin) are indeed correct, then it will be no bad thing if the Trust folds tomorrow.
Hopefully this will enable a core team of individuals to take over and handle the project more professionally, enthusiastically and openly. It would certainly be much more encouraging if the Vulcan was under the control of a couple of people rather than a whole team (most of whom appear to do absolutely nothing), and if the publicity and promotion for the project was handled by one person (rather than anyone who wants to have a go), and preferably someone who actually does the job effectively.
It would also be nice if there was just one "Vulcan Team" with one web site, rather than a conflicting array of confusing names and titles. Likewise, it would be much more encouraging if the project was finished in the full glare of public scrutiny, instead of the dark and often confusing arrangements which have been in place for so long. Congratulations are certainly due to those who have effectively saved the project yet again but I have to ask... who are these people? Unless I'm particulary stupid, I still don't know who the hell is doing what. As ever, just about every aspect of the project is about as clear as mud. It's a little disturbing that even at this late hour we have to endure dramatic "coming soon" announcements and a range of "watch this space" comments. I know it might not be much fun, but here's an idea- why don't they just tell us (ie the Lottery punters who have paid for it) exactly what is going on? Why does it continually have to be presented as if it's some sort of mysterious pseudo-military project?
I do sincerely hope that whoever has been invited to tomorrow's rollout (I certainly haven't!) gets some hard facts on the project's future, once and for all.

Well, I have permission to fly to Brunters tomorrow clutching my ticket - or I'll drive if the weather is too iffy.
I'm sure that there'll be clearer news about the project's future pretty soon; I agree that the 558 Club have done a much better job than anyone else in keeping everyone informed.
Anyone else going?
