Thumbs up Last Ditch Fund-Raising

Early this morning BBC East Midlands Teletext said that a last ditch fund raising bid was under way; this is to involve an open day at Bruntingthorpe and that they need to raise another £600,000, towards a £1 million target, and by the end of August ie 4 days time. That looks like a real challenge - good luck!

I see that, amongst the corporate pledges made, is one from EDS.....

....for a whole £10. Yes, TEN POUNDS.

Thanks very much for such a generous gesture.

Mig15

Well said.. I keep saying myself, we only need 100,000 tenners and this is one from EDS.

Anyone providing £10.00 is one less to go.

Keep the tenners coming. Thanks to you all.

How much do they really need and by when?

Can it be so difficult for these people to issue some definitive statement as to how much they need and by when? XL 391 says £200K, BBC says £600K - only a 300% difference and with 4 days to go! Earlier statements have mentioned £250K and £1 million, all needed by 31st Aug. No wonder there are doubts about this project, if the people running it can't speak with one voice!

The old girl was looking more like an aeroplane again yesterday, around 70% complete, apparently. Well done to the team, all of them!

The vexing question of funding came up again yesterday, agin with multiple figures being bandied about. I noticed a good number of people in the 558 club tent pledging away (along with myself, of course), although the trust stand looked strangely empty...

I'm willing to bet that the same people have been donating time and again, and that the donations plate is now simply being passed around and around the enthusiasts community. Does that make us all stakeholders?

Should this not come off, I wonder what the state of donations for other worthy causes will be in the aftermath? I felt quite sorry for the Lightning guys who are trying to raise a relatively measly £50k for the Q-shed completion, and whose construction would keep those two superb aircraft under cover. At least the announcer made sure that they were mentioned too.

Now that I've seen the Sky News dit I wondered how hard it would be to get the appropriate website for pledges put across the bottom of the screen...

Seems like a wasted opportunity for that not to happen....

Tin hat ON
It might be little but it does more damage than an entire Sqn of F3s!

Please forgive my absence, I've been rehearsing my routine which I will be happy to carry out just as soon as those Avons push the Vulcan into the air...

YMCA... not even close to what I had in mind besides, that song is for poofs who fly F3s.

Ooooh, that's harsh.

There's no need to get so prickly about it. Micropenis is a recognised medical condition

I'm actually seriously considering cycling all the way to Marham myself, so as not to miss the performance

Start pedaling just as soon as the Vulcan captain announces 'positive rate of climb'.

I'll be the one being chased by the SWO & the RAFP (who will for once have a fairly valid task).

I'm off to bed now but before I go, I'm going to get on my knees by the side of my bed & pray like a good 'un that my OOA dates coincide with the first flight!

Of course, all this after thanking the Lord that you are still young enough to have fully serviceable tackle and that Colostomy bags are still a subject to joke about.

Seriously though, you can't help but think that things are definitely looking good for 558 now.

I do actually hope Tombstone has to carry out his little forfeit, and not just because I'm a 'raving F3 mate'

Am I going to be the only person standing in the crowd, whispering 'ground abort, ground abort for sake'?

Lets see...

1 (very big) box of nails - deposit on runway.
1 tube of super glue - deposit on control surfaces.
1 dodgy looking character - deposit only serviceable Vulcan pilot in the boot of his car.

That should cover it.

Seriously though, please cancel the flight.

No chance - after the jet lands, we will then all watch you sing 'YWCA' with a rose clenched between your ar$e cheeks as you promised!
