Even so, he's not wrong. The stream of Australians on E3s from regionals to LCCs, which are actually career airlines, is ever flowing. A lot of them are bailing in under a year so signing a training bond in this environment is incredibly dumb with the movement this fast. The collapse of the regional model is good for everyone. They know they are on their last legs and are gasping for air at this point with training bonds.

That'd be my guess but things can change and I might miss it.

Bafan, no E3’s where I’m at but it’s a brave new world. So who knows what’s in the tea leaves. My personal feeling is that ALPA and the natives would lose their collective minds if E3’s were on the table. It’s essentially a bridge too far.

My point is that if the legacies are hoovering up extremely low time pilots, that in turn means that Lcc’s that ARE taking E3’s, will take them ASAP.

Theres even a few examples of those having spent 4-5 months at a regional before making the jump to the bright yellow ULCC. Sadly without a greencard that’s as far as you’ll go but still a great opportunity nonetheless.

That's important to keep in focus. The animal, yellow and globe carrying tails are career destination airlines. Sure they aren't necessarily the best, and being on an E3 is not without its risks, but the career earning & upgrade potential make all but Qantas pale in comparison. And even then, the difference between Qantas and the big E3 3 is questionable.

A bit more info on these "contracts". There's still limited detail about where the expat pilots come from. I wasn't aware SKW was sponsoring people for green cards...that's kind of a big deal...if that's actually what they're doing:

"The major difference between SkyWest’s bond and Republic’s is that, while Republic is imposing its contract on all new hires, SkyWest is only doing so for a limited portion of foreign pilots hired at the company. Sponsoring foreign workers for a green card in the United States is a notoriously complicated and expensive process for companies, who need to proactively file paperwork and pay fees to the federal government. Foreign pilots who do not hold green cards have additional requirements to be able to fly in the United States."

So, not much action in this thread lately. Does this mean nothing is happening lately re Aussies going to US regionals and ACMI carriers like Atlas, National etc ?

Or has the Aussie influx become so routine that it no longer merits comment ?

Spirit appears to be no longer taking E3’s, including those who already have an FAA ATP/121 time. Unsure if it’s specifically Aussie hiring slowing or just hiring in general. Atlas still has training backlog issues and looks like the regionals are finally starting classes again so will take a few months for new hires to filter through.

On a brighter note, AA just got their TA and it looks pretty good. I know E3’s can’t work there but a rising tide lifts all boats (except Australian ones it seems).

Still a pretty steady trickle of Aussie’s going over from what I’m hearing. Enough that airlines in Aus are struggling to fill up interview slots. But still an arrogance from management at all airlines at what might be causing it (hint hint, pay and conditions).

Spirit has indeed wound back new E3 hires to a select few as there's plenty of available locals now that most regionals have stopped hiring FOs (due to Captain imbalance). They're still filling and running classes of 25/week. Hopefully they open it back up later, in my opinion it's the best E3 gig out there. If the Jetblue merger is approved it's probably the closest an E3 holder will ever get to legacy USA T&Cs.

Frontier, Allegiant, Skywest, Atlas and a few others are still taking E3s from what I hear.

Spirit, as it exists today, is in my opinion the best gig out there even when stacked up against legacies

I have the perspective of being able to compare both, and if it wasn't for my plans to radically shake up my lifestyle, I'd be having significant buyers remorse.

the future is murky with the JB merger, they might bring along a lot of concessions, but it's still a fantastic place to end up.

One thing that worries me about ALPA is I get the impression they think parking aeroplanes will bring about significant pay rises at all carriers. Parking aeroplanes may actually curtail expansion and represent lost opportunity for members. BTW, E3’s for majors is Aussie-fantasy stuff from pilots whose only hope for improvement is mass attrition.

Parking airplanes because there is no pilots raises the value of pilots in the equation. If profitable expansion is possible then someone else who pays more to have pilots will fill that gap and so on. Parked airplanes, unused slots, all are big worries for an airline, but if the problem is fixable, by paying pilots more, then the competition will do it, take the route, take the slot and the one with poor industrial relations will diminish. The biggest threat to 'out of control' pilot wages is not airline profitability, but government intervention, and they will intervene at some point with funding/subsidies etc if the supply/demand factors are not met.

That’s just good old pilot rhetoric and a bit of simple economic theory. I don’t believe it’s playing out the way you suggest. Plenty of untapped demand for air travel that won’t be met due lack of pilots. What I saw yesterday regionally in the States had me bemused as to why people just don’t drive. The lack of reliability of air travel and full flights, due not enough frequency on shorter sectors and staff shortages, potentially sees lost aviation markets.

I hope some of what you mentioned plays out over the Pacific as US carriers tap the demand. Meanwhile, Qantas treads water, unable to train fast enough.

Yes, the wages are lower than oz.

But a young pilot starting out looking for a first jet job will have plenty of time to chase the dollars later.

Maybe broadening ones horizons by climbing out of the ozzie pond can be . . . . fun.

Or is that discouraged?
a great way to experience a different culture and it would increase your flying hours/experience

Understand...to your knowledge, is Spirit taking any Aussies on an initial E3 without FAA tickets ?
