I hate to make these predictions but Joyce is just putting the word out about route closures, job losses that would already be in the works. Good a time as any to let the senate know - now it makes it look like these are the reasons for said cancellations/job losses. What a puppet!

Joyce's Qantas pilots only flying 500 hours on average per year.
What about the LEAVE reduction program in place for the last X amount of years.
I'm taking 2 months Annual Leave & 2 months Long Service Leave this year.
There's no way in hell I'll be able to meet Industries Best Practice of 800 to 900 hours this year.

Maybe it's the same crisis type strategy Qantas played at FWA.
Ie: Terminate the protected industrial action as forward bookings are collapsing & the airline is suffering death by 1000 cuts.

Money can't buy prettiness, to be sure....
A slight thread drift but are Uncle Fester and the triple chinned Irishman getting uglier? Is milking the Qantas purse and extracting millions of non hard earned dollars some kind of 'ugly pill'? Every time they disappear for a month or two and then reappear they look more and more like they have been dropped head first from an A380 tail into the Mascot mill pond!!
Imagine if Wirthless were to hibernate for 12 months then reappear - It would be like a scene out of the original 'Texas Chainsaw Masacre'!!
I don't know about all of you but this mob of tyrants really could do with an Extreme Makeover. I am worried that their presence on TV will scare the s#it out of the grandkids and give them nightmares, I mean jeez I know The Wiggles seem to grow uglier every time I see them but the Red and Orange Execs give new meaning to 'bulldog ugly'. Would it be to rude to ask the Senate if paper bags could be place over these blokes heads during question time....to be sure to be sure.

Full Qantas/Jetstar Senate Inquiry 6-2-12
Whilst I was processing these videos I noted this story popped up on today's web SMH page. AJ & BB played this tune to death all through the hearing. Got me thinking, why not merge J* back into Qantas calling the Jetstar side of things "Qantas Lite" or something similar and get back to tackling the opposition. The amount of energy AJ & BB used defending their own management stupidity by ordering the wrong equipment, then blaming the staff for all their problems is just childish in my opinion...
Having said that, the press on yesterdays proceedings in Canberra so far have been dismal. AJ & BBs performances were woeful and they are getting away with it.
The last paragraph in this story bothers me.. both sides of government appear to show very little interest, so sad.

QANTAS'S chief executive, Alan Joyce, has argued that proposed law changes aimed at limiting the ability to hire foreign-based flight crews will force its budget offshoot, Jetstar, to pull out of Darwin and Cairns.
Fronting a Senate committee in Canberra yesterday, Mr Joyce also said proposed changes to the Qantas Sale Act, compelling it to perform more work such as aircraft maintenance in Australia, would force it to decide between letting Jetstar ''wither'' or selling the low-cost subsidiary.
Qantas's push to set up Asian subsidiaries, employing staff such as pilots and flight attendants on lower salaries than their Australian counterparts, was at the centre of the standoff with unions last year.

Although the airline has settled with its 1600 aircraft engineers, its dispute with long-haul pilots and ground crews is set to be determined in a binding ruling by the workplace regulator.
In his fourth appearance before the committee in a year, Mr Joyce described the proposed cabin crew bill and amendments to the Qantas Sale Act as a ''major threat to our business [and] to Australian jobs''.
He said restrictions on Jetstar's ability to employ foreign-based cabin crew would increase its labour bill for flights to the ''already unprofitable'' cities of Darwin and Cairns by more than $3 million
''That is not a threat - that is a fact,'' Mr Joyce said when Alex Gallacher, a Labor senator, questioned the validity of his threats to pull out of Cairns and Darwin. Jetstar has four aircraft based in Darwin.
''The impact on regional tourism and development would be immediate and negative. Strangling our international business and forcing us to pay uncompetitive wages compared to our foreign airline competition is no way to make us stronger, better or more Australian.''
But the independent senator Nick Xenophon, who has championed the two proposed bills, later described as ''ridiculous'' the claims Jetstar would have to pull out of the two cities if it had to offer foreign-based crew local wages and conditions when they worked on domestic flights.
Jetstar pays its foreign-based cabin crew about a third of what Australian flights attendants earn. Thai-based cabin crew earn about 60,000 Thai baht ($1800) a month, which Jetstar emphasised yesterday was about 10 times the average salary in Thailand.
Mr Joyce said the proposed changes to the Qantas Sale Act ''go way beyond'' the original aims of the legislation. It includes a requirement that Jetstar conduct the majority of its heavy maintenance in Australia.
''These amendments in total - from the make-up of the Qantas board to the location of our flight training - would apply intrusions and restrictions on Qantas … that do not apply to our competitors,'' he said.
The proposed tightening of the Qantas Sale Act is aimed at reining in the airline's aggressive overseas expansion plans, which include a proposal to set up an ultra-premium airline in south-east Asia.
But the proposals are understood to have little support among Labor and Coalition ranks. Virgin Australia has also argued against the changes at previous Senate hearings.

Perhaps Jetstar are Planning to withdraw from the route & it's convenient to blame labour costs?
If only mainline had some spare 767 capacity & crews to operate CNS-SIN direct. Oh that's right the aircraft are getting parked & the crew on assigned leave.
So the pax have to endure a JQ flight to DRW with a 4 hour back of the clock transit prior to their flight to SIN.
The market wants a direct Asia service, where is our national carrier?

Joyce and BB it's time to go..........
Of course these two chumps, Uncle Fester and Mini Me, are trying to twist words and deflect attention away from the facts by bleating on about the 'detrimental effects upon QF and JQ' that will occur if the silly Senators pursue their course of action in the senate.
If these two Nimrods are so incompetent that they are unable to mitigate a change in the aviation environment by way of regulatory, legislative or even a change to the Sales Act then they should pack their incompetent bags and pi#s of now. I thought they are meant to get paid the many many millions they do because they are meant to be the most competent, astute, skilled and effective leaders available?
Qantas for all it's faults is a national icon, like it or not. The pathetic Australian government needs to wake up to the fact that QF is viewed localy and internationaly as part of Australian heritage. You wouldn't allow a group of rogues to destroy the Kakadu, Uluru, Sydney Harbor Bridge or the Opera House would you? (Hmmm, then again).
These nupty CEO's and trough swilling Board parasites need to have the brakes apllied to them soon. If they continue destroying our heritage there will be blood spilled (analogy). We won't permit the Roo to be destroyed without the bloodiest and most patriotic fight seen in this country for a long time.
Gillard and Co need to come out from behind their protective word spinning bureaucratic curtain, exercise their balls and take this issue in hand once and for all, who know's it could help them earn back a tiny merit of respect.

for the record of the thread,, as a reminder for the last senate hearing 4-11-11.
I find this WA 7.30 report a good example (probably the best) of the hard questions AJ & BB faced.
Is it just me, this time around I felt the senators questions were delivered with a lot less punch... It feels like AJ got off lightly yesterday. Be interested in other peoples views.

It is clear to me which side the opposition is on.
Fortunately for us the immigration compliance issue is not a political issue but a law compliance issue and I would like to know what DIAC are doing or have done about it as Border Security have the power to detain the foreign crew at the departure gates or even huckle them off the aircraft just prior to departure for questioning. What are they waiting for??
As for Paul Daff, Joyce did all but admit that Daff acted daft when giving evidence in the Jet-connect Case. Blaming 'stage fright'. I call Bull****!! I am of the opinion that he was strategically told not to tell the court all he knew and just deny everything. If able to be demonstrated this would be called contempt of court and any suggestion of stage fright or anything else is irrelevant. Evidence given to the court should be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth... No excuses!!!

I see discrepancies in AJ's answers in part 9 regarding Jetconnect and Jetstar not being grounded (as they were isolated from Qf staff). Don't QF engineers service Jetconnect and Jetstar??
