Blue - to us worker bees, that is what it looks like. Unfortunately, those living in the corporate world (one very much disconnected from reality) will be interested in only one thing - how much did your profit increase?
That is all they are interested in, and unfortunately the answer will be "Oh, about 20%." And alas people like this will be given more board positions and chairmanships to continue their relentless push for max profit and min outlay.
At some stage I hope that people will realise that the success of an organisation should not be solely measured on its profit. The quality of its products and services, and the ability of the company to attract and retain quality employees should be as equally weighted.
What would I know though......
Cheers,
NFR.

Now that's funny NFR,
Picture Pirate ROFL... With slightly more room than one was used to on the Onslow. Speaking of which, the sub, not the Pirate laughing, it may be time for that subs nickname to take full effect.

Staff off sick cause massive delays at Sydney airport
By Mark Schliebs April 04, 2008 05:38pm
THE absence of three air traffic controllers who are on sick leave today has inflicted crippling delays on Australia's busiest airport.
Air Services Australia, which manages air traffic control, said the absence of half of the rostered staff had caused today's delays at Sydney airport.
All domestic flights, inbound and outbound, are suffering delays of up an hour and will continue to do so for the rest of evening.
An ASA spokeswoman said another controller had been called in to fill one of the shifts.
"This afternoon, three of our controllers from this terminal unit called in sick," the spokeswoman said.
“One additional controller has come in,” the spokeswoman said.
“We expect delays will continue this evening, but not after this evening.”
She said the unit had been understaffed since about 3pm (AEDT).
"We have fewer controllers than we'd have on a normal shift so we have had to reduce the number of arrivals and departures into Sydney to maintain safety."
Six air traffic controllers usually manned the Terminal Control Unit, but the spokeswoman said only four were now handling operations.
ASA could not comment if the high absentee rate was more than a coincidence.
"I can't speculate about how this relates to a general shortage of air traffic controllers but we expect the situation that affects today's delays to not be affected after this evening," she said.
Representatives from Qantas and Virgin had earlier said the airlines were not told why the delays had occurred.
At 5pm, about 20 planes were being held on the ground or told to remain in holding patterns above the airport.

ASA have been running the morale and staffing numbers down in equal proportions for at least 3 years. Good one TFN. If the SY TCU is now really staffed with 6 controllers on a Friday evening, for 12 positions, then ASA should get taken to the cleaners.
I'm sure a review of staffing and the obvious reliance on overtime is going to have an impact; this may be the first of many such events.
Why is it a "High Absentee Rate"? If losing 3 People is enough to break the system then you'd really have to question the integrity of the system? I read elsewhere that one controller cancelled a leave day to return to operational duty; so that leaves them actually two short? WTF is going on?

No reason given for Sydney flight delays
April 04, 2008 05:08pm
DOMESTIC flights into Sydney Airport are being delayed for up to one hour this afternoon and airlines say they are not being told why.
An Airservices Australia spokeswoman said the organisation was aware of the situation but had yet to confirm the reason for the delays.
A Qantas spokeswoman said domestic flights were being delayed by up to 30 minutes.
Virgin Blue was experiencing delays of up to one hour, with about 20 planes held on the ground or told to remain in holding patterns above the airport, an airline spokeswoman said.
A Sydney Airport spokeswoman declined to comment, saying Airservices Australia was in charge of air traffic control

ATC is one of the non-core businesses, along with RFF. ASA has now moved in to publishing (Atmospherix and Azimuth), corporate travel, plausible deniabilty, and spin-doctoring.

what the heck happened to episodes 3 & 4 of Spacewreck AsA by Odi Wan?
Were the entries considered too close to the mark and censored
As for the comments by AsA re: Sydney the other night & the insinuations that blind freddie could read out of them - boy, I really feel like coming in on my days off to help them out in the (not too distant) future. NOT.
