Without wishing to be presumptuous, Mr Moderator, sir, it seems that this thread has descended into farce, and is, perhaps, way past its "Use By" date. Perhaps, Mr Moderator, sir, you might want to consider drawing a line under it - or move it to a new D&G location - D&G - KINDERGARTEN.
Sorry, Mr Moderator, sir, it's hard to totally slip my old habits.....

The International Civil Aviation Organisations (ICAO) Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP) will be taking place in Australia from 18 to 28 February 2008. USOAP comprises regular, mandatory, systematic and harmonized safety audits of member States' effective implementation of ICAO standards and recommended practices. This is Australia's first audit under the expanded USOAP that began in 2005.
Got to make the ALM look good for the audit. "No time for separating aircraft now young man - to the online training modules pronto."
I guess I can understand his frustration. Having to defer his e-baying and travel planning to crack the whip on behalf of the Woods Battle Station.
Probably have to take some flexi time to recover from the pressure....

To get back to the topic...
Is this the kind of response we (and the CB hill dwellers) should be pushing on Airservices management?
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an effort to streamline the application process for air traffic controllers, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has created consolidated screening and testing centers to provide “one stop shopping” for prospective new employees. Consolidating security clearances, medical screenings, and fingerprinting allows the agency to cut weeks off the application process.
“The FAA put out a job announcement just last month that attracted 3,000 applicants in 15 days. The overwhelming response for new air traffic controller positions highlights the enthusiasm, passion and determination of our applicants,” said Bobby Sturgell, the FAA’s acting administrator. “They are ready to work and we want to get them processed and in training as soon as possible.”
To get numerous applicants through the system at one time, the FAA created a Pre-Employment Processing Center (PEPC) that couples screening and testing and can rotate to the FAA facilities where prospective controllers are interviewed. Instead of making separate appointments that can take up to two weeks to complete, this system streamlines the process.
The first Center was set up at the regional FAA office in New York in January and was a huge success when more than 90 prospective controllers were interviewed. Individuals invited to come to the Centers are candidates chosen by centralized selection panels for further consideration. The first hires to participate in this process received job offers within two weeks and will start at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City this month. Other Centers will be held in Florida, Atlanta, Fort Worth, and Chicago between now and the spring.
The consolidated screening process is one more initiative in the FAA’s aggressive recruitment and hiring program. The FAA will hire more than 1,800 new air traffic controllers this year and increase total controller staffing to more than 15,000. In addition to recruitment and hiring, the agency recently announced the installation of state-of-the-art air traffic tower and en route simulators to give the new controllers an enhanced, real-world experience during training.

I acknowledge that this is NOT a short-term fix, but I doubt there will be too many 'old' Australian ATCs who would respond to an offer (even if it were substantial). Once out of the job, and used to another lifestyle, it is just not worth it (regardless of the offer) to go back. I for one, am far happier doing what I am doing right now than I have been in a long while. So let's at least start pushing for a longer-term solution so that when I (and you) travel in the future (which I hope will be many, many years to come), I/we will continue to feel 'secure' in the knowledge that I/we am/are being well looked after by qualified, fresh and content ATCs.

OJK,
I must congratulate you on a masterful piece of story telling, despite my dispair I dusted off my username (of which I am so proud) to say that I look forward to yet another episode.
All I ask is that things start to look up and that SDE gets a rocket in the Date, .....or was that, Date gets a rocket in the ar@e.
Anyway, hang in there Launy TWR, your ATC buddies are with you!
F@#k off TFN, and take your fluffers with you.

I know that facts are frowned upon in PPRUNE but thought we should get maybe one right!

"ICAO-Delta", Don Brown has a less-than-rosy interpretation of that news release.

If rumours are correct, there is a write up about the Airservices Australia staffing problems and associated hopeless management hanging on the wall of the Bahrain ACC.
So even if the elite Airservices management team are pleading ignorance, the rest of the world knows the story.
Makes you wonder what they were thinking with their Bahrain bid and ridiculous promises and roadshow.

Melbourne TCU currently 2 staff down (out of 30). 4 retirements within the 6 months or so= 6 down. Minimum of 6 months to train new guys. Number being trained at the moment? ZERO. Earliest chance of two new crew getting their ratings? End of the year. Standby for more capital city TIBA

Why do CASA allow AIRSERVICES to keep their Part 172 and 173 licences when CASA knows that AIRSERVICES mismanagement makes them incapable of fullfilling the LEGISLATED requirements of the licence?
Is the CASA issued licence REAL or just a political piece of paper?
Bring on an enquiry into the way that AIRSERVICES has been allowed to stay operational while being incapable of delivering the service required by the Government (expediency) and the travelling public (safety).
TIBA is an AIRSERVICES instigated (but CASA pee in the pocket approved) COP OUT FROM PROVIDING ITs LEGISLATED SERVICES, at the expense of the airline industry and at the peril of the FARE PAYING PASSENGER who is supposed to be protected by ICAO standards, of which AUSTRALIA is a signatory.
When will the new Government put some effective CASA personnel in place to put the current sad state of regulated airspace services in this aviation dependent country RIGHT?
March approaches.
Goodbye TFN and your National Party cronies.
Lets hope this current Government acts to get rid of these morons before the enquiry that will follow as the result of a major hull loss in Australia due to CASA and AIRSERVICES ineptitude.
COFFEE ROYALE - SARWATCH, since gone with FS.
SOUTHERN CLOUD - ATC, now impotent.
VH-TVC - met reporting and forecasts.
Just a few names to remind you all of the last causes of major reforms to our aviation legislation.
There has never been a major aviation reform in Australia due to Government initiatives WITHOUT A MAJOR ACCIDENT. NEVER.
Mr Albanese....this is your only chance.

Spot on RS.
Ask Jason for a Coffee Royale and he won't even know what you are talking about.
Ask him if he learnt anything when he read about it and you will fall over in horror when he says....WHAT?
Is he silly enough to have kept up the FREE COFFEE scam, as long as you bring a ticket from the boss?
Oh ****e, red screen of death. ALM approaching.

SDE Biscuit Preferences
Little Green tickets still being passed out yesterday down south for free coffees.
Now there's a thought.
To train those Mexicans who luv to dunk a biscuit in the ALM stained Nescafe as they separate (so to speak!) into which different category of SDE they now belong, the ALMs could give them different biscuits.
Base it on the revenue....
UAS Monte Carlo
ECS Ice Vovo
REG Salada
Yep about right... UAS exclusive, ECS Pretentious, REG too poor to buy sweet ones! (no cross subsidies, of course!)
Hey in the corridors of BN CTR today rumours rampant that ML CTR may not need to buy Monte Carlo biscuits for their UAS Oceanics; i.e. it will all be done from BN!!
Can it be true???

Nothing they do is going to be enough to make me stay if the Euros on offer in Germany are enough to make the move!
DFS are about to start interviewing and there are a number of controllers from Melbourne who have an interview (including me).
Would the last horse out of the stable bolt the door on the way out!
