AH help
I was told visiting a NATS station was pretty much necessary for the stage 3 interview, but hell at 5pm yesterday i got an invite for friday morning, and well i just cant get the extra time of work and don't think i can organise one in 48 hours (have to leave thursday to get there) what should i do, would researching what all the stations do and the differences between them be enough?
I am concerned that the short notice has put me at a major disadvantage... |
That is crazy mate....giving you 2 days to prepare is pretty terrible (i hope you've did a bit of prep before hand to make it not so difficult for you). I really do think though that a big part of the interview is on your motivation for ATC...and I think 'I only got 2 days notice so didn't have enough time' would sound pretty bad in an interview - even though it's a completely valid response. Is there no way at all you can arrange a visit for the day before your interview? If not...do you know any Air Traffic Controllers to phone and ask/interview ? If it were me...I'd e-mail them and ask when a different stage 3 date will become available - if you've made the journey THIS far...there is no point in throwing it away on the final hurdle. So you have to wait a little longer...it gives you so much more time to prepare, and that is only a positive thing!
All the best mate! |
I fully intend to attend this interview. I have been given a chance and i am adamant about taking it. I have emailed HR requesting a visit at swanwick the day before my interview. the reason i had not visited yet was that i wanted to do it in the week or two prior as it would be freshest in my mind.

I TOTALLY agree with gazb2 if you do not feel well prepared! Remember, NATS are looking for fully prepared candidates as opposed to just making the numbers so the supposed 'opportunity' would be of no benefit to you at all if you were to underperform due to lack of adequate time to prepare.
Even NATS I believe would advise you of the same should you need to re-schedule! You are so close now, don't throw it away except ofcourse you are confident and feel adequately prepared. |
esudfu, when did you have your stage 2?
|
marke95, he did it May 31. The same day as my stage 3, which hopefully means they are now starting to get the results out for our stage 3:ooh:
|
just a quick question
Sorry I cant be much help to any of you guys at the moment but was hoping some of you could help me. I'm waiting to sit my first exam it should be around september time. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to prepare for this exam.
Many thanks |
It's all in the thread ;)
Start by doing what NATS tells you, study the motivational paper. You might also want to revise some Speed/Distance/time calculations. In the end the most important in my opinion is how ever to get a good nights sleep, a proper breakfast and then do your best. These tests are a lot about aptitude (the first two papers of stage 1 and part of stage 3 excempted) so it's not that much you can do to prepare. Good luck :ok: On a side note, have nobody from stage 3 on the 31st heard anything yet? Oh well, "no news is good news" I suppose  |
Stage 1
Hi Sebby,
How does the stage 1 tests this year compare to when you last did it? Many thanks SKOS |
SKOS,
Hi! The process is basically the same with the only difference being that they mark the first 2 tests and tell you if you pass or not before letting you sit the next two! I actually think the tests were EXACTLY the same, if my memory serves me well lol. Not that I could remember the answers HAH Yesterday was my 15th working day and still no results, so I am getting impatient :) Seb |
Hi all, long time reader first time poster.
Got my 1st test stage on 24th June at Whiteley, first time time going for it. Having trouble remembering some of the plane specs from the motivational paper. Are there likely to be specific questions about these or more like "plane 'X' is going from 'Y' to 'Z', choose (from multi choice) which plane is best suited. Anyone else got their test this day? |
Seb,
What time were your tests on the 20th? and also it was at whiteley right? I was at the 9am exams - and specifically remember the lovely lady replying to my question with - 'results by wednesday' emailed them today and tried calling on friday - no response. Keep updating if you have heard anything and good luck :) |
Hi,
has anyone heard anything from the Stage 1 tests on May 20th?? Even counting the bank holiday I work it out that today is 15 working days. Getting worried now!! |
Don't worry GingerTD, I also had my stage 1 on May 20th, and have kept in touch with quite a few people from the day, none of whom have heard back... we just have to be patient! :ok: Good luck!
|
I thought 15 was last Friday, of course the bank holiday would make it today.
Anyway, no response here yet either. |
hi
:ok:hi, you said you moving fast through screen ,how long bro since you have start, and what ur experience?
|
Hi, i've been reading this thread for quite awhile now. It's been very helpful in my preparation for my NATS application process.
I have my stage 1 exams on Friday morning in Fareham. Anyone else going to those? How many people should I expect to be taking the exams with me? |
Posijohn,
I've also got my stage 1 on Friday morning - hopefully see you there! |
Posijohn....I didn't expect as many people that were at my stage 1 at all ! You'll have plenty of people to socialize with :)
|
In answer to the question, it's quite a few. At a guest-imate I'd suggest 40 will begin the day...?
Phil |
The first time I took stage 1 at the Hilton in London there were close to a hundred people taking it.
Second time I took it there were only about 8 of us. I'll be there on Friday morning anyway. |
Well, 24th June at Prestwick is my stage 1, so nervous about it and excited, that's a good thing right? Just wondering what you do with valuables? LIke do you have a locker or something to put phones/keys/coats etc in, and also do I have to take my own equipment, Pens, Pencils etc or will they provide them? and another quick thing, would black shirt, jeans, and black shoes be fine to wear? :)
|
Good Luck with stage 1 guys - aslong as you read through the pdf document (mostly the second half) n brush up on some maths you should be okay.
Anyway - in regards to results from May 20th @ Fareham. Not had any response from HR to voicemails or emails - still. Not sure if you guys have read up stuff on their website about changes - nothing alarming but may be why it's all slightly delayed. |
Hey guys, new here etc.
I'm also going through the process. I passed my Stage 1 at the start of May. That was at Prestwick. Got my Stage 2 on the 20th July in Fareham. Stage 1 for me was quite easy. As long as you learn the source material and are familiar with S=D/T equations (make sure you practice some without a calculator before hand) then you should get through them bits alright. For me it started, we all went in to the room and were given a quick speech about how if you hadn't revised the source material you should leave, and if you weren't willing to work anywhere in the country you should leave. And were told about the structure of the tests. Which was After the first two tests (both multiple choice, first one was on the material, second was the numeracy S=D/T stuff) whoever hadn't got a high enough mark would be asked to leave and wouldn't be allowed to sit the second part of stage 1. Which was a pretty nerve racking time when she was reading the list of names who had to leave. Then the second part was gthe dreaded 'Spatial Awareness' tests and the code one (where you follow the diagrams to get to the correct final picture). I did notice that I looked like one of the youngest candidates there though (I'm 21). I don't really know what to expect for stage 2. I've read alot that you can't really prepare for it which doesn't help at all. One thing is that this process is costing me quite a bit money cos where I live I can't just travel on the day, so I'm having to pay for accomodation and so far there aren't any expenses paid. So I had to buy return train tickets to Prestwick and a hotel for a night which cost me £110. And for Fareham the tickets and overnight hotel is costing me £160. Which is quite a lot of money when you're only on the wage I'm on at the minute. But it's a ways to a means, and hopefully it'll be all worth it in the end :-D |
woooooo just found out i passed stage 2 :ok:
|
when did you attend stage 2?
|
2nd of june
|
My patience has well and truly run out now! I will be calling them on monday!!!
Seb |
I'll contact them on Monday as well, a week late would seem a perfectly reasonable time to start pestering them over results.
|
Sebby and Simon- were you both stage 1 on May 20th? I got my results on Thursday, as did the other people in my group who I stayed in touch with... were you there in the afternoon?
|
Glad i'm not the only one who still hasn't heard anything. What is going on!!! I tried to ring twice on Friday but went straight to answer phone. I'll also be ringing again on Monday
|
We were the morning session! Did you pass?
Seb |
Camstrong, where you in Fareham (Corporate centre) or Prestwick?
|
I was in Fareham, and I passed (woop). I don't understand why my group (12.30-3) already has the results when you guys don't...
|
Received an e-mail this morning asking me to complete a personality questionnaire.
Does this mean I passed stage 1? :) |
Simon89,
Yes but it is not the same as being through to stage 2. As for the people waiting for stage 3 results, check your emails (for unrealdream you need to check your text messages). It seems I will be relocating to the UK in the future:eek:, but my brain can't really absorbe the thought of that yet to be honest... |
NATS selection 24th June
Hi, been great to reasd these posts. I have my selection this Friday 24th and feeling the same like many, nervous but so excited at the same time.
From what i have read i am not sure whether i am missing anything. What is the Cubes test that is mentioned and is there a lot of speed distance and time calculations? From the material i have had sent to me, i was unaware of anything like this. Is anyone staying on Prestwick on the 23rd? I've booked into the Manor house, if anyone else is staying there or around message me. |
I have just found out I passed stage 2!
Congrats Crazy Voyager, it must be an amazing feeling! |
