$450 for eye test sounds a bit steep...

I pay around the $400 mark for a class 1...not sure if class 3 is similar
Yeah, those were my thoughts exactly. I hold a Class 1 and 2 in NZ and my Initial didn't cost anywhere near what this is going to cost.I know the testing is slightly different for the Class 3 because they had to schedule it on a particular day due to specific testing for Class 3.

That being said, I know this is going to be well worth it and have heard the costs are reimbursed if successful.

Hi benjipc,

Yeah I have been asked to go and get the medical. But they also put a wee disclaimer saying this is not an offer of a position, so I don't really want to say I'm in until I get an offer. Call me superstitious, but I don't want to jinx it.

Cheers

Medicals

FYI

My hearing test was part of the DAME appt. And my Opth was less than half what you've been quoted.

It's worth going away from the CBD for better prices!

varonny 6th Sep 2014 09:16

Hi Big_Browna, I can't remember exactly how much in total my medical was, but once you start you just fill in a form and Airservices reimburses you. Just remember to keep your receipts!

I wouldn't worry too much about the disclaimer - unless you don't pass the medical, the only thing I'd be concerned about is making sure the medical gets processed in time.

Cost of tests

Hi Everyone,

I'm going through the medical testing in Canberra at the moment. It cost me $242 for the Dame yesterday. I have my eye, ECG and blood tests booked in for next week.

Does anyone know when I pay the $75 application fee to casa? And do I collect all the reports and head back to the dame with them?

Thanks in advance!

SoontobeinMelbourne

You can put your payment details in the medical application form..or go online and pay it before your appointment..take the receipt along to your DAME.

Best wishes everyone for your course. I'm just starting the application process but coming from the dark side.

Big_Browna 11th Sep 2014 05:31

Hi SoontobeinMelbourne,

I paid mine before I went and saw the DAME. Easiest way to do it is online. follow the link below.

Civil Aviation Safety Authority - Payment of fees FAQs

In terms of the additional tests, the eye test will be done by a DOA (Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist) so they will send the results to CASA directly. As for the blood test and ECG, They should be sent straight to your DAME but best to check with the people where you are getting the tests done.

Goodluck

SoontobeinMelbourne 11th Sep 2014 06:07

CASA application fee

Cool, I might just pay it online then. Do I need another appointment with the DAME after I finish getting all of the other tests ie. eye, hearing, bloods?

TechtoATC 11th Sep 2014 16:04

Melbourne Assessment Day

My online Test is due next Tuesday 16th Sept, if I manage to pass these tests, anyone know the likely date of the Assessment day that I would be asked to attend in Melbourne?

SoontobeinMelbourne 11th Sep 2014 23:50

CASA application fee

Thanks, I think I'll just pay it online too.

Do you know, do I have to go back and see the DAME again once I've completed all of my tests? I'm just thinking that if I do that I should probably make the appointment now.

Big_Browna 12th Sep 2014 14:17

Hey SoontobeinMelbourne,

You shouldn't need to see the DAME again unless there are some results that are of concern. Best thing to do is find out from the DAME because some like to do things different so all depends on them.

Just completed my online Test, suspect I didn't do too well. Oh well maybe I should have started this pursuit years ago.

I'm an overseas controller. I've been invited to do the online tests. Any idea what I can expect?

I haven't read many of these posts. I always was a bit of a peruser. I know I will get people saying "piss off you silly old git and retire gracefully" but about 4 months ago - out of interest/curiosity - I did the entrance tests on line for acceptance as an "experienced ATC intake" starter and I (just - apparently) failed.
My background:
10 years ASSY including APP and Tower Check controller (including YSBK, YSCN and YSTW)
8 years YSCB TWR and APP
2 years YBBN TWR and APP
5 years OMDB TWR and APP
4 years VHHH (KAI TAK) TWR and APP
16 years VHHH (CHEK LAP KOK) APP and TWR
Extensive OJTI and supervising
It seems to me that it's more important for a bunch of clerks that come up with a whole bunch of irrelevant tests to define where Australia's future controllers come from than tests that take into account a cross section of capabilities...including EXPERIENCE. After all it was a test for "experienced" Controllers.

I have applied for enroute program and have been told that soon I will receive invitation for online test. Can anybody name the online tests that I have to complete. some one who has recently done them please just tell me how many were there and their names etc. like speed test, decision making, memory test etc. and if you can provide some more details that would be helpful.

ATC intakes 2015

Yay, seems I passed all my online testing. I have applied for Tower - I like being rural, and hope to have the option to eventually end up rural. Looking forward to hearing how everybody goes in this next round of intakes

Hi Hashmi,

No need to worry beforehand. AsA will email you with details on all the tests you will need to take and a deadline with plenty of time to prepare...:ok:

Experienced ATCO

I have just completed my online testing for Experienced ATCO. Interested to hear the feedback of others who have just attempted. The deadline given was 30 Sep. Good luck to everyone else but I feel that was the start of the end of my application!

Despite 10yrs experience in TWR and RDR that was difficult!!

thanx.
When i applied on 5th September 2014, after 10 days they told me that my application is incomplete and I need to have my qualification assessed from NOOSR. I provided them a letter from Australian Institute of Management (my assessing authority during immigration) stating that my BSc in Aerospace in equivalent to Australian Bachelors. After a few emails they accepted it and told me that now my application is at online test stage. have not heard anything from them since after that.
Any guess how long will it take them to actually send me an invitation to complete the online test?

kpnagidi 22nd Sep 2014 19:09

@hashmi

Nope, not really. All I know is they're taking applicants in bunches. You might be in the next one.

online test

Hi

test is not related to your previous job...etc

it is a kind of psychometric test....

i think you cant do much ....preparation....bla...bla.....etc

just relax and give it a go....

gudluck:ok:

cheers

hashmi 25th Sep 2014 10:37

Spacial test is my worry. How wsd it? It was making cubes , trisngles, cones etc or something different.

pineappledaz 1st Oct 2014 20:13

I would say it would come down to $$$ and staff time.

The online tests would be a good indicator if people are able to complete the training and be successful on the job. It probably costs a lot more $ to conduct a phone interview. So bumping up the order of the OPQ would most likely cut down the number of phone interviews.

I agree with you on the test though

stevep64 2nd Oct 2014 02:13

3 years ago, when I went through the selection process, they didn't even have the OPQ.

Even getting through the whole process and getting onto a course is no guarantee that you'll complete the training.

McDonnell 7th Oct 2014 04:10

Hi All,

this is my first post. Thanks heaps for everyone posting here and giving heaps of insight into their own experience with the application process at ASA. I am trying to get into the ASA ATC in training program and I believe most of you are talking about that here and not the graduate program. I want to do well in the psychometric assessment, but have no clue how it is. I have done few for some other jobs, but was told by a friend this one is alot harder for the ATC. Some of you, who have scored good and passed the test, what was the test like? What sort of preparation did you go through? What type of a score do you need to advance to the next stage? Can you guys please give me some tips on the psychometric assessment? Thanks alot guys.

pineappledaz 8th Oct 2014 10:02

McDonnell, try the SHL online practice tests or visit your local library for some tests. After you apply, ASA tell you what tests you have to do.

Other than trying out the tests, there isn't any real prep you can do. Either you can do the tests or you can't. That is why ATC is so selective.

slscrockatt 8th Oct 2014 11:36

Howdy, to be honest when i completed the online testing about 2 years ago i had no idea what to expect. The only thing i would recommend is having a nice quiet space to do it in, do the practice test so you know what your trying to achieve in the task. Have a calculator handy I think you still require it. And just do your best and answer the questions how you believe they should be answered not what type of answer they are looking for.

McDonnell 8th Oct 2014 12:04

Thanks slscrockatt and pineappledaz for your comments. what sort of a score do you need to get if you are to have a chance of getting to the next stage?

SoontobeinMelbourne 15th Oct 2014 00:51

Test pass rate

McDonnell, they don't publish the pass score so noone will be able to answer that for you. But put it this way, there weren't too many people offered a spot at the testing day, so the score to pass the exams must be set pretty high.

What to expect during initial telephone interview

I've made it through to the 15 min telephone interview (this Friday).

I'd be grateful if anyone is able to let me know what to expect.

My preference is for Tower - what is the likelihood of ending up at either Camden, Bankstown or Sydney immediately after training?

Cheers

shortmacc 15th Oct 2014 23:36

Hey TailWheelBoy,

It is just a short phone interview and they will ask you some behavioral based questions. When I did mine I found that there was nothing I could really do to prepare for it.

Just make sure you are in quiet place and you don't sound like a rambling fool on the phone ;)

Not sure about the tower preferences. You should be prepared to be posted to any of the towers though.

Good luck!

TailWheelBoy 16th Oct 2014 05:16

Thanks shortmacc

Where did you do your training and what stream did you choose?

What was it like?

Cheers

pineappledaz 16th Oct 2014 05:25

Tailwheel when did you complete your online testing?

TailWheelBoy 16th Oct 2014 06:12

Timing

My timing is as follows:

29 Aug: submitted application
23 Sep: invited to complete online testing
26 Sep: completed online testing
1 Oct: invited to complete online OPG
3 Oct: completed online OPG
14 Oct: invited to telephone interview

Cheers

bb1981 17th Oct 2014 06:28

So had my telephone interview today. Wasn't expecting the behavioural questions (or at least so many of them) at this stage. Thought this first interview would be more about ascertaining what I knew about the job etc... But, I survived it, bumbled my way through (I hate interviews with a passion!). Logged in to check my status and it has changed to "on hold for upcoming assessment centre" which I hope is good news :)

tomato_soup 17th Oct 2014 11:54

Hey Guys,

Firstly I just wanted to thank everyone for the information provided in this forum, very helpful during the application process.

I completed my assessment day last week in Brisbane and my status has changed over to referee details. On the day I was told in the interview that we would likely receive feedback by the end of this week however I have heard nothing and my referees haven't been contacted.

I was just wondering if anyone who had recently been through the process knew the time frame from referee details being requested to hearing some feedback, the suspense is killing me.

Good luck to everyone going through the process atm.
