Hi there !

I just got my medical clearance , and i'm booked to travel on 22nd May 2009 . I have some questions about my luggage ..

I know that I have till 100kg of allowed cargo .

But about my suits , do you know if I can take them as hand luggage ??? ( not to get it destroyed in the luggage locker during the flight. )

Furthermore , I play tennis , and have a thermobag ( a bag as big as professional players have ) .Do you think I can take it as a hand luggage ( equipments are fragile) , or as a normal luggage ???

Thanks .

Hi
I am also tentativly booked to fly from MAN in April, i cant see this happening either!! i went with the short term medical. I have sent all my blood test results and xray but i have now been asked to provide a medical report on my kidneys because they have damage to them because of multiple urine infections, which i declared when asked if i was currently taking any medication. I have also been asked to provide a urine test and report, this would be OK but my Doctor is being a pain and has said he can not write the medical report. Dont Know what to do my doctor has been a pain throughout the whole process!! has anyone else found any problems whilst trying to complete the medicals for qatar airways? xx

Thankyou for your reply. Im going to take your advice and ask for a different doctor!! thankyou again!

To coopsclaire...

Your doctor probably isnt suitable for writing a report, because you need to see a specialist, probably urologist or something like that! They want to confirm that eveything is ok with your kidneys! Hope this helps!

Hi guys! Just read this whole thread and congrats to those people that are now successfully working for Qatar! I have a question. I have thought about applying for Qatar but confused as it does say "must be willing to relocate to Doha". So does that mean you would only be in Doha for the training or pretty much until the contract ends? I don't have a problem with leaving my country (UK), but I have a pet which I can't leave behind for too long. I know it's silly. So if relocating to Doha is perm then I won't apply for it.

rfortupino
17th Apr 2010, 06:49
The base is Doha. You live in Doha. The training is in Doha. Everything is in Doha lol
Btw, you sleep abroad when flying, but just for 1 or 2 nights and return to Doha again. And I think, somebody wrote the same question about pets and the answer was pets are not allowed in your accommodation.

valensi
17th Apr 2010, 06:57
All Middle Eastern Airlines will require you to relocate as their hub is the international airport of the flag carrier; so in Qatar's case this is Doha, Emirates is Dubai, Gulf is Bahrain and Etihad is Abu Dhabi. All crew live in those cities, you will be employed as an expatriate worker (I.e on a valid Qatar working visa) and will be offered a three year contract to live and work there.

There's also no guarantee you will get regular flights to the UK; so if relocating and leaving your pet behind are no-gos, then the life of crew is not for you!

Alternatively, you could try UK based low-costs with regional bases (EZY, Flybe, Monarch, Jet2 etc), as BA and Virgin Atlantic won't be hiring for a long time yet.

Hope this helps and good luck!

hello everybody!
i have passed the final interview and i have to do the medical checks now.
As i am currently working for another airline and today and tomorrow is week end i wont be able to do anything, plus i dont know what to chose if short or long term.
Is there a really big different about the costs? And is it true that if i do the long one and i pass i dont have to do any visit in Doha??
My problem is that i live in a foreign country and i work almost every day so i wont have. Is it ok if i ask my coordinator a week more?
please reply
thanks a lot

Hi sara fra

When i received my e mail i was given 2 days to complete my medical!
I infomed my coordinator that it wouldnt be possible because it was coming up to the weekend and she was fine about it. All in all i think its a long process and they understand that, so dont worry!! I received my e mail about 2 weeks ago now and im still going through the medical process. I have just kept my coordinator informed of the progress.

Good luck xx

Hey valensi, thank you for your reply. Yeah I figured I would have to relocate and 3 years is a long time. My friend was lucky enough to get a interview in hongkong for CX and now she is based in the UK and working from there :ugh: I guess the best option for me is to work with a UK based airline, I have been keeping my eyes open on recruitments. I got accepted at easyJet but it is only seasonal so yeah... hope there will be more recruitments over the summer!

Hi Quantity

I don't know the exact details of the long term medical but the form you were sent by QA is most likely the short term which means you will have to do a chest x-ray and blood tests, eg blood group, serology, HIV tests etc. It's pretty basic but it will mean that there will be more tests done in Doha. I'm not sure what these involve though, sorry. If they give you the option of doing the long term medical in your own country I'm sure they would give you a (long) list of things to do, so obviously it would be more expensive. It's my understanding that if you do the long term then there are no more tests in Doha. I was told that if I do the long term medical then you would be waiting much longer to relocate due to the nature of the medical and what's involved. So maybe this would suit somebody who is in college etc and can't fly within the month or two months.

I hope this helps, sorry I don't have more info! Good luck!

Hi guys, i have a question for those who have attended a qatar airways interview. So, I know that you have to bring with you a full lenght photo and a passport one too, but the background can't be white, so which are the colours aloud? Do you think it's fine pictures with green background?

Thnk you,

Marie2009
20th Apr 2010, 00:04
Try to do it with the blue background, they prefer it.
Although, be careful about the photos, because they might send you to re do them and re do and re do ... Some recruters don't really deserve the position they have. It is a pitty they decide on other people's career. There is a girl [name & nationality removed - mods] who is fat and really bichy. Don't get me wrong, I have passed the final interview, but still I can not believe what she was doing to the people. :ugh:
At some point she told me that I have to re do my photos (after re doing it already once) because the floor is not suposed to be seen in the picture. I mean, what did she expect me to do, to start flying in order to make the photos???? And it is not so bad what she was saying as much as the way she was saying it. I hope you understand what I mean. I already have heard that people in Qatar have some certain "attitude", but you can't imagine how much!
In any case, poor people that she is going to recruit.
And good luck with photos!

katarko
20th Apr 2010, 10:51
How do you think you are to write about people like that?
You just show us how poor you are. A was recr. when I attended OD (Zagreb) and she was brilliant. Tell us your name and stay with your words here. I just can't listen people like you because you are ----- !

Just one detail...
I just checked some of your post here and I can see (all of us can see the same) that you write about Emirates Etihad Qatar... And just some negative because you were rejected there... And that is the reason of post like this one. If there is no company where you was selected - I think there is some problem with you.

My posts are not negative at all. AI just wrote what I have experienced. I have passed the final interview with Qatar, and I am doing my medicals at the moment. The truth is that this A was really rude, and you cannot change this fact what ever you write.
Although, I have noticed that she was too friendly with the boys, so I do understand your attitude.
Forum is about exchanging the opinions and experiences, what's your problem then?

Finally, a good discussion!

Marie2009,

I totally understand how you felt. I`m sure that the recruiter was seemed to be rude to you. But consider something:
- maybe she was tired or had a terrible headache,
- maybe she broke up with her boy-friend 5 minutes before on the phone,
- maybe she was annoyed because you were the 6th person who did the photos wrong,
- and Eastern-Europeans generally considered harsh (accent, tone of voice), most likely you did`t like her style. (I`m from Eastern-Europe, so I know what I`m talking about.)

Anyways, I believe that she was rude to you as it happens of course. It shouldn`t be a big deal and you shouldn`t be very sensitive. Forget about things like that as you will have loads of incidents and conflicts on board, trust me.

Girls with attitude?! Big time! Everyone has an attitude and everyone is different. Let`s be positive and hope that you will have a good flatmate or flatmates.

By the way, I find it very bad that most of the companies put the crew in 3-bedroom-apartments nowadays. Three boys together: maybe. Three girls: way too many! Especially if you need to share the bathroom!

If you don`t feel comfortable with your flatmate, don`t think twice: look for a new apartment and move as soon as possible.

I don`t live in Doha but I met one of the new-joiners (EK) couple of weeks ago in Dubai. Well, she was waiting for her taxi and went to the airport. She resigned after 2 days. She didn`t even make it through induction. And what was the reason: everything is so scary (I name one: her driver at the airport the night she was picked up), her accomodation is horrible (there is no internet), horrible location, lots of construction around, strange flatmates (she met only 1 out of the 2 for 10 minutes) and it`s very hot. Then she was gone.

So, I didn`t find your post negative at all. I find some of the people generally too positive, let`s say naive. I`m sure that some of them has absolutely no idea what they can expect in the Middle-East. (Not specified for Qatar crew.) I find it healthy and normal that you have concerns. It`s also totally normal that you don`t like every single person you meet. Believe me, you will hate 1-2 bithes in your batch but it doesn`t mean that your training will be horrible. I hope you`ll have a great time and you`ll make some friends!

Very bad idea to name any of your colleagues here. You should avoid this all times. It`s a small world!

Good luck with the medicals!

Dumor,

I am sorry to hear that you had bad experience with this girl, as well. And I am sorry for the company that send the girl with that kind of behavior to recruit the new girls. Are you doing your medicals at the moment?

Mari, thank you so much for your words. You are one of very few people on this forum who REALLY knows and understands what is going on. I saw it earlier, I am seeing it now, girl, you are so helpful to people.
You are totally right, we need to learn to face with this type of situations and not to get it to personally.
But, the fact that this was nasty to ALL girls during the OD was so weird, because usually the girls that are sent by the company are so so so so pleasent and kind. That is how was exactly the second girl from Qatar who did OD.

Wish you everything best in your career!

Hello everyone, another wanna-be here :D

I'm about to attend the open day held in Riga on 1st of May. However, I'm struggling with whether or not I should be doing it now, because I have some busy month coming up..
So, here's a few questions I came up with (didn't have the heart to read through ALL the pages):
- How long does it take to get past the last interview? (I live 100 km from Riga so traveling there & back every other day would not be nice)
- How long after you've passed the final interview the date of departure is set? I have an exam on 4th of June, and I couldn't possibly leave any earlier than 5th. But I guess if the medical takes so long to process, maybe it's alright with the time??

Actually, I have no idea, I only came up with the idea of becoming a cabin crew a week ago, and then this advert showed up at the newspapers, so I thought - why not since I'm totally in love with flying :O

dream_to_fly
25th Apr 2010, 08:47
An OD usually takes 3 days. I have attended Qatar's OD before and it goes like this

1st day: It's basically and induction day where the recruiters will meet you and give you information on the airline and the country. The discussion will include the living lifestyle, airline's history and so forth. Make sure ask questions and even answer some question they answer because it shows that you are interested and is ready to commit to the company! And it shows you have done your research as well so do go to the Qatar's site and read as much as you can. After the induction, they will ask you to come up one by one to hand in your CV. When you hand in your CV they will ask you 1 or 2 question about you. ie, "where are you working now" or "What is your background?". You will have about 30-45 seconds to impress them. Just make sure you smile and stay calm. If you are successful, they will call you and will ask you to attend the group stage which will usually take place the very next day.

2nd day: This is the group stage. You will be placed in a group and the recruiters will assess you how well you interact with others and how well you can contribute as a team. Make sure you do not control the group's discussion but rather, contribute to the task given. This is the stage where they will assess your height. You will need to be able to reach 212cm with your hand stretched up. And should you be successful, they will then ask and invite you to the FI. It will either be the next day, or the day after.

3rd day: Final interview. Self explanatory. And by this stage and if you make it, good luck!

The waiting game begins. With Qatar it can take between 3-5 weeks until you will be contacted.

Hope this helps!

(regarding medicals and such, I will let Qatar explain it to you).

God bless! :ok:

Thank you so much, you're a life savior! :ok:

One last thing tho - i read something about "wrong pictures" so I have a question regarding them - it's clear how to do the passport-kind ones, but the full length apparently has some main guidelines to be followed?
Sorry for the silly questions

dream_to_fly
25th Apr 2010, 10:18
for the photos you will need to provide a full length photo with a preferred blue background and in business attire. No hands holding/clasping together, hands straight on the side. Make sure your hair (if you are a girl) pulled back tightly and if you are a guy, make sure it is neat. Of course, put on your friendly smile :}. Same as passport photos, blue background is preferred as well. Dont worry if dont like your photos, because if you make it through to the final interview they will give you an email for you to submit the photos.

Good luck and wish you all the best! Hopefully one day we'll be able to fly together! :ok:

God bless and will be praying for you!

First of all I want to congratulate everyone who's departing to Doha soon!

Now, I'm writing to kindly ask you how does the Open Day work, since QR is coming to Arg on May 29th and I'm definetely going.
Last year I went to an Emirates Assesement Day and make it to de FI, but unfortunately I got a rejection e-mail. Anyways, for that AD I had to do somethings with an appointed agency and then got shortlisted for the AD.

So again, I'd like to know how does de Open Day work?

Hope this time making it and getting this job that I want so muuuch!

However, in the e-mail I received says that " Kindly note that irrespective of you opting for any medicals, you will have to go through the complete detailed medicals here in Doha.". So, I would like to now if anyone nows what are the exams we are going through in Doha.

Hi there!

Just to let you know, they prefer a blue background with your photos and make sure you wear a suit and skirt that is knee length. They will not accept photos with your hands clasp together so make sure they are relaxed on your side. Oh and this goes the same with passport photos too. With blue background and smiling. If you are a girl, make sure your hair is tied back and light make-up. Nothing too heavy.

Hope this helps!

I think with makeup they want to see your natural look, nothing too heavy that looks like you have heavy foundation on and crazy hick eyeshadows and such. Im a guy, so I'll let you choose your make-up haha. But that's just my tip for you though. When I attended an OD (which I was unsuccessful) they they like guys with little hair product and females with not too heavy make up.

Good luck though! Im sure you will do well to impress them :ok:

Hi airbuschic

Just be yourself. Thats the only best way to impress them. You can actually ask questions (but not too many, I recommend 2) about working with Qatar and about Doha. This shows you are interested in working with the company. If they ask you guys questions, dont be afraid to answer, it already shows you have initiative. Just do your research on Qatar through their website. They will definitely ask questions like "who is the ceo".

Good luck!:ok:

I would like to share a story about a final interview. (I read it on another forum, in my mother tongue.) I found the story quite funny.

One of the girls (from my home country) made it to the FI with Qatar.

During the FI the recuriter asked her: What will you miss when your are in Doha? Answer from the girl: Alcohol!

In addition, she mentioned that she would also miss "sleeping with my boy-friend every day". (In my mother tongue it means sleeping, really. In English...)

Do you think she gave "right" answers?

(I didn't mean to be offensive but I found this story really funny... A bit of IQ is needed to pass the final interview...)

my fingers are crossed for you :ok:

I'm looking for some advice... could you please help?
There is going to be an OD for Qatar Airways in Argentina, since I'm not from Argentina I will have to pay (tickets, meals, hotel) to go.
Do you think it is worth it?

Considering that they have come to my country in the past, plus I have already gotten to the AD and got cut off right on the final activity.

kindly advice :)

guys you might like this aswell:

a friend of mine has tried 3 times for Emirates and finally made it to Final Interview just before the big recruitment freeze last year, an Australian guy who had worked for Qantas Domestic and longed to live in DXB and be part of the Emirates team. He was so nervous for his Final Interview which took place in Brisbane, when the recruiters asked him, "What are your main concerns about moving to Dubai?" he replies, "Well, I suppose all the Arabs..."

What he was TRYING to say was that he didn't speak Arabic, and would like to learn a few handy phrases before he left to help him. He said the interview concluded pretty swiftly after that and he received the inevitable just 2 weeks later: "It is with considerable regret that I have to inform you that you application has been unsuccessful"

Anyway, as it seems to always go in the airline industry, perserverance really does pay off. He attended another AD while on holiday in Dubai last year and started his training in January 2010 with Emirates... I guess practice makes perfect!

@want_TObeCC: OD/AD in Argentina :)

Hi, attending an OD from another country/city, given the expenses you are about to face will ALL be worth it once you surpass the OD/AD/FI and got CLEARED.

Since there will be a scheduled OD in Argentina, grab it now, don't miss an opportunity. If you feel that you are ready and positive about it, don't hesitate. -GO!

what you RISK, reveals what you VALUE. :ok:

Im also attending QR OD this May.

____________________________________________________________ __________________________

@Air Ronan: OMG!:)

can you please elaborate further the "curve" on your spine?
QR only allows 14 degrees BELOW.
have your doctor determine the angle degree of your spine.
Lets cross our fingers for GOOD results!

____________________________________________________________ ____________________________

@j.e.g: SKIN CHECK:)

Hi, kindly elaborate the scars on your arm?
:sad:Is it too visible in terms of size? discoloration?, can a good concealer (like Dermablend) will help to hide it?
:sad:Is it above your elbow going to your shoulder? if yes, dont worry much, because QR allows a tattoo/skin imperfections only if it can be hidden when you are wearing a short sleeves clothing. (Imagine yourself wearing their uniform, if its not visible while on it, nothing to worry).

I advise, if you can have a medium, (e.g dermatrix) to lessen- eradicate the scar gradually, that will help.

I hope I was able to give you good informations.

Hi Everyone,:):):)

There will be a scheduled OD this May 29, in MNL,PI.
I am excited and nervous at the same time, I have been planning to attend OD's before but I felt I was not ready yet.

Now, my guts has fired up, and I'm definitely not letting this chance slipped again.
(I heard the previous OD last Feb in MNL, there were 1,003 aspirants, only 58 got in for the AD and 12 for the FI.. waaaa...) heart beating..:\

I'm taking my chances.
for other aspirants planning to take the OD in MNL, see you there!

any tips, advices will be HIGHLY appreciated!:)

Wish US grace and luck!:ok:

Hi everyone :) As you can see i am new here and considering to join Qatar airways. I have a few questions
1. I am 28. Is it not to old?
2. I am a bit heavy 93 kg. Would that be an issue. Don't get me wrong i am not fat, i am very athletic.
3. That's only two questions that is bothering me.

Apart of that i have a long experience in hospitality, as i am working as an assistant manager in a hotel. So customer service is easy for me :). And there is a time in my life where i want to have a bit of adventure. Whoo hoo!!!

Hello there,
I am a friend of Marcorix..I have been succesful until the final interview with Qatar Airways..So I have been waiting for two weeks..During this period I have recived a call and three mails from the supervisor requitment. They asked me to repeat the photograps 3 times becouse my hair was too shaved. Is it normal? Now I have to wait 2 more weeks to let them grow a little bit more..if I am going to wait 2 more weeks is going to be a lot of time...Just wondering about as I am a male it takes longer till the medical tests becouse male training courses are not as often as the female ones.
Is it a good a period for training courses May/June?

Hello :)

Regarding your inquiry, dont worry, QR cabin crew applicants range from 21 - 35 years old, ( so 28 y/old is normally acceptable)

and about your weight, try to get your BMI (Body Mass Index) that measures if your Height is proportion to your Weight, get it? if you are in the normal range, nothing to worry.
Check this link to compute yours.
Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator and Chart (http://www.docshop.com/education/bariatrics/calculator/)

About your hospitality experience, I can say its superb background.
Just strut your stuff during application days.. your good to GO!

@leaviateur: MALE appplicant concern

There are some Country/City where they accept Male Applicant
Try to visit Qatar Airways Cabin Crew Events and check the List of Countries where they accept Male Applicant..

Note:
E.g, Singapore OD's AD's: Thy accept Male Applicants regardless of Nationalities, (just have to go to that specific country where male applicants is accepted)
So far, Im definite that Singapore and Philippines now accept male applicants.

I hope I was able to help you.:ok:

Hi guys,

could anybody tell me how to answer this question on application......It is simple question but difficult to answer. ''

WHY DO YOU WANT WORK WITH US?

dream_to_fly
5th May 2010, 11:15
The reason recruiters ask that particular question is to test how committed you are to the company and it is also a chance for you to 'sugar coat' the reason why you would want to work with Qatar. Give them enough praise and interest in your comment and you will be fine.

For example:

"When people think about Qatar Airways, they immediately think about the quality service they will be receiving and the high level of professionalism the airline carries. That is why I would love to work for a respectable company where I can contribute my skills to a wider audiences"

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have to repeat my CBC, because the platelets were a little bit high.

I think if i repeat the cbc is gonna be the same result, the rest of the CBC is perfect.
I was checking other analysis that I did the last year and this value was more and less the same.
I think my blood is like this.

Anyone know is that can ruin the final approval?

Normally an OD takes 3 days. The first day is just an introduction from Qatar and you hand in your CV. Should you be successful they will ring you and ask you to attend a group assessment. If you are successful in the group assessment stage, you will then be asked to attend for a final interview the next day. Please read back some of the post as there are heaps of information.

p.s I see that Cheng Du is a CV submission day only. Im guessing you will not get a call straight away that day to be invited for the second day's assessment. They might call you next week to arrange a time.

Good luck!

As there is no official max. age limit on the homepage, nobody knows for sure.

My little niece was just hired and she has a batchmate who is 32 years old. I know another girl who recently got hired at the age of 30.

The cut off age must be around 33-35, I guess. (Previous flying experience is a great advantage, I think.) The number of people get hired over 29 is around 5% (less than 10% for sure).

Nadine5040

Hello Teefly:)
Thanx....Oh i know those medicals are the worst...I got soo confused with them, because when you attend the OD, they give you a medical form and then when you get your congrads email they attach another, and the two forms are different... One has alot more info to be filled in than the other...So Ms.Barbie called me and asked me which medical i want, short or long term...I actually did not know wat she was takin bout..lol..I just said short term, and i filled in the 2 forms and sent them off...ha...

But i had a problem with my medical, I fractued my spine last year and my doctor had to put it on the form, i was soo nervous, thinkin no way am i getting the job. But they replied me lookin for more x-rays and reports, so i did and I received my date of travel last week...

Ya the long term is suppose to take ages...How long are you waiting now...???? OH i hope they contact you soon, so you can be goin same time...

Has anybody packed any clothes yet whoever is travelling to Doha:rolleyes:
Sooo cofused..lol...

Thanks

Flying Sushi I would sudjest calling them, until some one answers! I am not male but that is what I would do, take there time difference into consideration when you call, and there work hours, and there office hours. I personally dont no there work week. But call until you can get ahold of someone, the recruitment officers have no problem with answering questions over the phone.
& Flysafetygrad they do not fund the medicals you have to pay for it yourself they give you two options a short term medical that is cheaper then the other option the long term medical.

I would like to ask everyone how long did it take for your medical clearance after you sent it. I only sent mine a few days ago, but im so anxious, nervouse, excited, and scared.:ugh:

Hello everyone here is the process I went through to join Qatar airlines, basically my time frame.

March 27th(Saturday)- open house day
I went to the open house obtained information about the agency, and had 20 seconds to talk to the recruiters and hand in my resume. That day I had to wait for a phone call back to get invited to the second day.
28th March 2010 (Sunday) - Preliminary Selection
During this day we had to do a reach test, we also had to write a english test, and have group discussions. They made 2 cuts this day, we started out with 65 people and by the end of the day there was 11.
29th March 2010 (Monday) - Final Interview
I had a one on one interview for about a half hour with the recruiters.

April 15th 2010 - I got the selected candidate email, and my medical forms.

May 12th 2010- I sent my medical (Yes it took me this long to complete my medical, I chose to do the long term).

May 17th 2010- I recieved my medical clearance & recieved my date of travel may 28th ( I am still waiting for my visa though)

Good luck everyone

I have read through the tread - good job guys - very informative!

Still, there are few things:

1 - On their website they announce 'Open Day' OR 'Open Day(CV submission)' but at the same time say that we can drop by in both cases. Any idea what's the difference? I'm going to attend the OD in Vilnius in June..but I have to fly in from the Netherlands so I just want to avoid a situation when I come for nothing...

2 - Any skydivers/reacriational pilots in Doha? Skydiving is my life so Í'm just wondering if coining QA would mean giving it up...? The same with flying...

Thanks in advance guys!

I have a few questions that I would like to ask you. I've been at an Qatar interview in Budapest and I've arrived at the final interview. Where I made some mistakes, I've wrote with blue ink the application form because I didn't have a black one, they give me to complete another one. And I have a scar on my back from an operation that it's not visible. I've decelerate when they ask us if we have a birth mark or a scar. This could be some reasons for being eliminated?:{ I'm very anxious. I need some opinions concerning my problems. Thank you and I hope you can help me

Hello Anna19!

I think you'll remember me because I was the onliest boy who got to the final interview.
I heard about your mistake. I think you don't need to worry about the scar if it's not visible. I have a bigger black birthmark on my leg but they said that it's ok. As for blue pen... Maybe it's not a good point because they said and it was written on the application form as well that only with black pen. But I heard that you got a new application form and a black pen from them. In my opinion if the HR in Doha see in you the potential than this blue pen thing won't be a problem :) So just relax and think positiv that you will get a congratulation e-mail in 3 weeks. I know that it's terrible waiting 3 weeks.

By the way I had a problem on my final interview as well. They said that my Body Mass Index isn't good and it's a big problem :{ They said that if the doctor doesn't consider it than I have to promise to put on 7-8 kg weight. I asked them to say the truth wether I had chance or don't have. They said that they'll write on my documents that they recommend me but the final decision is not in their hand. As an opportunity they could imagine that I get a congratulation message but I have to send them a new photo after 2-3 months if I put on weight or don't.

What do you think? Or anybody experienced a such a similar case?
I was so happy because it was my first Qatar OD and i got to the final interview as an onliest boy and now this BMI - index problem. :ugh:

Thanks for answering.

If you have any tattoos, or scars, it's not a problem, until it can be covered. Covered means it's on your back for example. You're gonna wear knee lenght skirts and short sleeves blouses, so if they cover it, it's OK, if not obviously not OK.

So, Tattoos and scars:
-Can it be covered? It's OK
-It's visible and can't be covered? You better ask.

Hey guys this is for some of the people out there who are going to a Qatar open day or thinking about going.
I just got back from the open day held at the Hilton at Gatwick Airport. First of all there were alot of people there, and i mean alot of people. You notice that everyone is dressed really nicely and everyone made an effort with make-up and hair. Its really fierce competition. There were alot of men there too and I say this because ive been to an Easyjet assessment day and there were not that many men. We were let into a hall and when everyone was seated the two ladies ( Racheal and Gillian) introduced themselves and started their presentation. It was all about Qatar Airlines, what it is like to live there and what they expect from you. Its very much a session where you decide if you want to work and live in Doha as well as them recruiting you. After all this they had a question and answer session and then invited you individually to hand in your CV. one of the ladies then told us what time to expect a call by and what to wear the following day. She did also say that how we were dressed on the open day didn't count towards anything (i would still advice people to dress accordingly). After all this you just leave and begin waiting till 6pm to get the call.

Good luck for the future and also to all the people that were there today
Fingers crossed
God Bless :ok::ok::ok::ok:

Sending my medicals in tomorrow (which is also the deadline for sending them in at all) The thing that's scaring me is all this stuff about scars - I've got two 5x5mm scars on my left arm and they can't be covered. That will be a shame if it'll fail my application because everything else is in perfect order

Also, I'm wondering what they'll say about the medical forms - they're in Latvian with translations in English, made by doctors. I was standing next to them and telling what to write :suspect:

I do have a question to experienced people here, I reached the english and height test during the AD, but was let go on the first cut, just before the group discussion, and as you've read I'm planning to go to KL for another try, the last od was just last month, so do i need to wait six months before applying again? Thanks in advance.

Hi to all, I've been reading this thread from pg 1 and would like to congratulate to all that made it. Please do not forget about us wannabes and come back regularly to advice us.

I've been to the OD on 22 May in Singapore, and was shortlisted for the screening interview the next day. The only thing was i sort of crashed the interview cause I missed their calls and I just turned up the next day trying my luck that I would still have a slot.

So to those out there, if by mistake that you have received a missed call from the hotel that the interview was held, most likely you can try going for the screening and hopefully your name is there.
I guess lady luck was on my side as I passed the english test, group discussion and made it to the final interview round.

My final interview was on the 25th, I think I proceed it averagely, but it was very very obvious how nervous/stressed I was as my hands were still cold and sweaty when i shook their hands at the end of the interview.
They were very nice people and it was more like a conversation instead of a serious Q&A during interviews. So the best tip would be to relax and answer your best. No need for big words. haha

It has been only 2 days, and the waiting is terrible. Keep thinking of what would I need to bring, medicals that I would need to do and so on. This part stinks cause I'm not officially accepted yet and if I don't, it would be a huge letdown.

Anybody who has been to the same OD as me, please pm me or something. And what do you guys do/think to let the days go faster, haha. In any case, will be watching out for this thread very very frequently.
Thanks in advance for whatever suggestions/advices. =)

Went to my first Qatar OD and it went very well in my experience. About 170 or so people showed up to the OD in my city, some people came prepared dressed in business suits, others came in jeans, and even one came in looking like they showed up straight from dancing all night (surprisingly made it the AD).

OD: Pretty straight forward, the recruitment team (very nice ladies, well spoken and informative) talked about Doha, life there, the package offered to us, they went over the Airline and Country rules (so anyone who says they are strict must have had their eyes closed and eyes shut; because it's mentioned a few during the introduction what is expected of their cabin crew).
After the introduction there was a question and answer part and the recruiters were more than happy to answer questions. After, this the room was divided with each recruiter at their own table collecting the CV's one by one and asking a quick question (this is your 30-60 seconds to make a lasting good impression). Then you go home and wait for your call; we were told about 5 we should expect our phone to ring...about 3 and my phone is ringing ''Congradulations, you have been shortlisted!''

AD: The group of 170 or so is now about 34 equally men and women. We entered the room ready to start the English test which is pretty straight forward and during this time we are called to do are reach test. They did ask each of us a question as well before we went back to our seat, after the test we were asked to please wait outside until they have made a decision. After about 20mins of waiting we were asked back in, and 34 became 11.
Now we were broken up into teams of 5 and 6, given topics to discuss as a group (to see your body language and interaction skills). There was also a common sense test that we had to do as a team. Then we discussed infront of everyone why we chose this and why, and I stress to listen carefully to the instructors when they ask you questions during this round and speak clearly and with a smile. Again we were asked to go outside for about 10minutes.
We are called back in and 11 became 6 who are invited to the Final Interviews.

FI: Pretty straight forward come 10-15mins before your scheduled time. The Interview is 2 on 1 and they ask you personal questions tailored from your CV, common sense questions, and general in this situation how would you respond, I believe my FI went very well as it lasted about 45mins and I left with a good feeling from it.

Overall for my first time trying I left with a good impression and now I must wait 3 weeks for the final answer, I'm not stressed but excited that within 7-8 weeks I will be on that plane to Doha and starting an adventure of a lifetime. :D

PD: My word of advice is just to relax, be confident but not in an arrogant way, smile, and be yourself and enjoy the experience.

Also as the medicals once I have to start them I will be back to report on that adventure.

@SidePart- I think it would be best to wait the 6 months as they do ask if you have applied for Qatar Airways before.

I think its okay to go ahead and try again. Show them you are keen in the job. I went for one during feb and i didn't make it. So the one in may was actually my 2nd try.

Hi, not to worry so much as it is just cv submission. After that, just go home and wait for their call. After that, just read through this thread and you would have all you need to prepare yourself.

And to teefly, CONGRATS!!! Haha. Hope that I'll get to go to Doha too. If so, by then you gotta look out for me! :)

Hi folks,

This thread is very useful.
I have got a lot of info about pre-employment medicals.
But I want to know more about post-employment medicals.
For sure they will do medicals once you arrive Doha.

For the skin check, how carefully they check??
They take your hands and arms and check if there is scars??

Please let me know. Thanks!

Hello everybody!

@ Ladybuggg - I think they were OK with something like 2/3 degree scoliosis or whatever they measure there. I just sent in my x-ray report, but I did it just for the sake of doing it because my back has serious problems (like, 10, 10 and 12 degree turns in diffrent places of spine ) so I'm 99,9% sure that'll fail me

I'm quite disappointed and down because of it as I am not able to work as cabin crew ever in my life. On the other hand - I found out what needs to be taken care of, tho, it's never fixable, i can prevent it from getting worse

So, good luck to everyone there and I do suggest doing the x-ray first when you're doing your pre-employment medicals, can save you some cash :)

Ladybuggg
3rd Jun 2010, 14:34
Hi Zelatvian

Thank you for the information :ok: I have already sent my medicals 3 times and they always ask for more and more details. It is so stressful because it takes a lot of time to talk to a doctor and wait for the reports :ugh:

Well in my opinion, I think you did the right thing sending your x ray even if it's 10 degrees, because we will never know if we don't the chance, right? ;)

Zelatvian
3rd Jun 2010, 14:46
But of course ;)
It is worth taking those tests, after all, you're just making sure you're alright even if it doesn't guarantee you the job.
They sent me the congratulations e-mail on 17th of May, and we've been shooting mails back & forth ever since :D Be patient - it does take a while to get the reports especially if you don't live in an English-speaking country.

I expect them to reply until end of this week so I will let you know what was their response :)

Ladybuggg
3rd Jun 2010, 15:36
I received it on 13th of May:eek: and now I have to wait until next week to talk with a radiologist about my degrees:ugh: I also have bad eye vision..:( Well let's see.. anyway, good luck :ok:

I have a little scar in my arm, nothing special, I didn't report it on my PEM questionaire, would that be a problem?

Hi Guys,

Was hoping someone could clear something up for me. I have been offered a job with Qatar, done all the medicals and waiting for clearance. I have some worries about QR and was wondering if there would be any problem turning up at an EK open day (do you need an invite?)? In other words, is there anyway that Qatar could find out if I also apply to EK to keep options open and then withdraw my employment offer? Any help would be appreciated

Hello, firstly congrats that you have gotten the 'congrats email'. haha.

Anyway, in my opinion, I think its okay to go try out for EK. Afterall, you are not under the employment of QA yet. When was your OD, and how long did it take for you to get a reply email? And you are tentatively booked to travel on?

To All PPRUNERS (wannabes)

All i can say to you is that never give up....and God is great!\

first time interview with qatar!

i went for CV drop-off on 2nd of April in Dubai and they promised to call us the same evening if you were successful....i never got the call but 2 days later i got am e-mail stating i was shortlisted i would be advised of the date and venue of the interview.

a month later i got the invitation for interview on 15th June

the interview:
we assemble at a hotel by 9:00AM, they stated by introducing the company, about CC...life, schedulle, challenges and many more
then asking any concern to two lovely ladies an Indian(i forgot her name) and Kristina(from Polland).....we were 52 of us

then the interview began with an English test, an east one, first part you read a comprehension and answer question (you are given multipul choices), second part was to calculate GMT, third was a small blank comprehension then fourth was to write three essays on the following topics: 1) Qualities of a good CC 2)a time you felt unsuccessful 3)a lesson you learnt from being unsucessful....in the maen time they measured our heights, everyone had to touch 212cm, ladies were allowed to tip toe unlike gents. After we had a break for 30 minutes and we were called to gather again. first elimination we remained 19people

we had four group discussions, 1)you are a crew the a passanger passes you from the wash room stinking cigar smell...how are you gonna approach him? 2) you are giving kids kits for play but you run short, how are you going to treat the remaing kids? 3) you are from a flight the you find your roomate having party, using your stuff yet you want to rest, how are you going to react? 4)discuss challenges you think you are going to face while moving to Doha...after this we were left 11people(10 ladies and 1 gent)and they invited us for the final the following day!

this was a two on one thing, so relaxing than day one, lasts 30minutes only or less
as for me i was asked two questions:
1)when i went out of my way to assist a customer?
2)when i ever said no to a customer and why?
after they told me to wait for 3 weeks they will e-mail me if successful or not

exactly a week and a day after i got successful e-mail, did my medicals in two days they got confirmed in a weeks time and was adviced to resign.
my joining date is 5th July, i travel to Doha on 3rd.

To all who have always posted their experiences here and other forum thanks alot, to all wannabe: it a long no joke journey but keep trying its worth it but above all pray hard. with God all is possible and i thank Him for His mercy and this job, am going to work hard not to let him down.

anyone with same joining date???

Thank you!

Hey All

I know a lot of people are curious about what happens after the FI. So i thought you might like to know what happened in my case.

After the final interview on the 24th of May in Brisbane I was contacted on the 16th of June with a Congratulatory email saying I had to complete a medical and then email them my signed offer of employment along with the results.

I have done that and now I am waiting to see what happens next.

I am curious though......is anyone able to send a message of the list of stuff the airlines says we need to take over to doha???????????????????????? :)

Cheers

Hi, I have one question!

Is it possible to do the medical test from NHS?
Do they provide evrything what qatar wants? (X-rays, blood test, etc.)
And is it totally free? Or how much does it cost in total?
And where do I have to go, who do I need to see, and what should I tell them??????

I am so much worried..If there is anyone have already experience in it, please give me some advice...

And please don't say that I need to see a private doctor,, :(

Hi irregardless of whether you made it or not, QA would send a email to notify you of the outcome. Be it a rejection mail or a golden call mail.
Reasons would not be stated, during the AD they have also said that it's confidential. Unless you know the interviewer or higher up people personally,
there's no way of finding out.
Stay positive! :)

Ayesunshine
12th Jun 2010, 19:16
Unless you can do it very nicely it's fine, otherwise get it done professionally.
It would be a very good investment as the selection will be heavily based on your picture. Remember their format, hands open by your sides. Legs together, not one in front of the other, and lastly a wide smile.
Good luck!

Hello, next cabin crews! =)

I wanna be a cabin crew in Qatar airways or emirates.

I was wondering if it is possible to apply for it

even though I have a history of a treatment of Arrthymias.

I am totally fine when I have a check at the hospital,

but I've heard that some specific treatment or surgery couldn't

be acceptable....

The treatment's name was 'radiofrequency catheter ablation'.

Does anyone know about this?

p.s. i sent a message to both of the airlines, but they haven't answered yet..

Hi everybody !

I have a question. Last week I send my medical report by email to QA, And one day later they asked me to repeat my CBC et to measure the cobb's angle. So finally I went to the doctor, he told me that i didn't have any scoliosis, it was just a scoliosis attitude so he wrotte a report to explain the situation.. ok for this point! But when I did again my CBC some of the values were better but some of them were not within the normal range again. Anyway I sent it to them, and since one week soon they did'nt answer to me.

So do you think guys that it's a bad point, or are they gonna ask me to do the CBC again..?? I really don't know, i'm a little bit lost and I'm scared because of some result not really dangerous on my CBC, and maybe i'm not gonna have my medical clearance !! Is someone is in the same situation ??

Thanks in advance. ;)

Some people said that is a problem, so please, help me.

What a great day, first I woke up to watch my country (Argentina) win their world cup match and filled with excitement I went to check my mail, and today I get my golden email!!!! ::O Very happy!

I do have 2 questions that I couldn't find going through the forum if anyone can give insight.

They said I have 3 days to complete the medicals but I don't think it's possible for me as I need to look for a doctor to do it in english and not spanish and if not look for a professional translator. Would they understand this?

Second, the short term versus the long term medicals, since they do medicals in Doha regardless of which you pick, do the long term medicals have any advantages over the short term?

Thank you for your help and congradulations to those on their way! :D

Hi Boludo,

Don't worry about the three days, it takes a lot of time everywere! Just keep them informed of what you are going to do and don't forget to say "as soon as possible" :p
And if you have any scoliosis, ask your doctor to do the Cobb's angle! lol
Good luck :ok:
