Good news for STN and good to see a resurgent BE but this further muddies their London operation.

Some of the former LGW flights plus AMS/DUB/EDI into LCY
Former LGW routes of IOM & NCL plus seasonal NQY & DND op by Logan into STN
NQY remaining at LGW
DUB plus Stobart franchise into SEN

If you had read the press release you would have seen that it is being sold back to Finnair.

C195 12th November 2014 08:45

Finnair is looking for a buyer.

stab3.5up 12th November 2014 09:48

Would BHD -STN be on the cards as well?

Lord Spandex Masher 12th November 2014 10:06

Flybe are also selling their 60% stake in the Finnair joint venture for....a quid.

NickBarnes 12th November 2014 10:12

Looks like flybe have avoided any EZY or FR routes so I would probably say no to Routes to Belfast, Glasgow or Edinburgh at this stage.

toledoashley 12th November 2014 10:17

I'm not sure if it is that confusing. They obviously have a deal with MAG and already have the Dundee flight. What is surprising is the routes - NCL/IOM/NQY + the close proximity to Southend. However easyJet showed that domestic didn't work from there, so maybe a smart move.

Bournemouth Air 12th November 2014 11:40

Has nobody mentioned Flybe to open a base at Bournemouth Airport

SWBKCB 12th November 2014 11:43

BOH base

see post 529

Ian Brooks 12th November 2014 11:46

beaten to it

Lord Spandex Masher 12th November 2014 11:58

It's not a proper base. It'll be crewed by SOU crew. Flybe state that four based aircraft are needed, like ABZ (again), to have based crew.

Nakata77 12th November 2014 14:46

Wise timings on GLA-BOH which will appeal to outbound passengers to Bournemouth. The Bournemouth market to Glasgow is leisure based I would suggest so early morning departures from there not so crucial.

Ryanair struggled with BOH-PIK double daily not just because it was too much capacity but also because the timings didn't favour the Scottish customer.

Dublin days 1-3-5-7
Amsterdam days 2-4-67
Paris days 1-3-5-7
Manchester double daily (1 each 6&7)
Glasgow double daily (1 each 6&7) operated by GLA based aircraft
Toulon days 1-3-5-7
Deauville days 2-4-67
Biarritz day 6 only
Jersey days 1234567

Summer sun routes to Spain have also been mentioned for release over the next few weeks.

FLYboh 12th November 2014 15:22

Glasgow has 4 flights on Mondays,Wednesdays & Fridays, and 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Seems quite a lot of capacity for a new route.

Good news for BOH, and hopefully just the start of further expansion.

New Bases

Just a quick question, perhaps someone will know the answer.

With the London City operation an the new base announcements are there enough aircraft to go around or will aircraft be removed from existing bases. An example would be the BHX to ABZ flights operate from the BHX base, are they likely to be switched around to operate from ABZ..

Centre cities,

Note the majority of new routes commence in May, after the first deliveries of the ex- Republic Q400s which will be added to the fleet. Hence the new routes are possible due to an increase in the fleet number

I see, I was led to believe that they were like for like replacements.

Flybe

Ok the lunatics are now well and truly running the asylum.

Bases at BOH and STN are mad, mad as a box of frogs. Southampton has long been to jewel in BE's crown and if i'm not mistaken they have also just opened up bases at LCY and SEN. Why dilute a monopoly in Southampton and two newish bases that are still trying to get off the ground?

Yes reading between the lines they have done a deal with Manchester Airport Group for fixed prices and as a trade off had to open some token routes at the other airports in their portfolio (BOH/STN). A businessman still wet behind the ears would be biting their hand off sure, but anyone with a modicum of sense will look at the bigger picture. Manchester is an open market place and any number of competitor can come along and get the same deal no doubt. Any benefit will soon evaporate. SOU is beyond the reach of EZY and RYR and surely is where the real money is to be made for BE? They are not a low cost airline by any stretch of the imagination and need to squeeze their monopolies dry yet they are renegading on them?

No one wants to fly from BOH, that is fact. I have lost track of the regional airlines that have tested the water (SI, EI, GR, LS even BE previously) and FR and EZY are hardly maxing out the tarmac. It is akin to a morgue and should be closed down for housing but common sense rarely prevails in this country (See LHR still waiting on a 3rd runway for an example).

Unfortunately we are seeing the demise of an airline that for me genuinely shook up the market introducing the revolutionary Q400 which enabled them to conquer all the old dinosaurs (Bacon/BMI etc) and make regional air travel affordable for the masses. I have used them hundreds of times to see family all over the country but I am afraid this will soon be no more as they feed suicide pills to their own cash cows. You only have to look at the nonsensical decision to piss all over their game changer (Q400) in order to get some jungle jets that were not fit for purpose. They are now coming back to the Q400 with their tails between their legs but are getting a bunch of dogs from the US that will prove to be a maintenance nightmare. Their current use will not blend well with what BE will require from them.

It might be a lose analogy but would the likes of Gucci renegade on its prime real estate to do a deal with poundland? The one big lesson aviation needs to learn is to stick to what it knows (see ZB for consequences) and to let the customer dictate where to place its gambles.

RIP BE

hi Rivet,

you wrote:

but Bacon came into being on 01 02 2006, whereas flybe, or Jersey European was launched in 1979, predating the "dinosaur" Bacon by 17 years.

not sure I follow your logic

Summer 15

This has certainly got a debate going and like DJ6 and SWBKCB on the Stansted thread the most interesting or "left field" aspect is the timings of the STN-NCL. I would have loved to have been in the meeting when that decision was made.

Talking of which I realise it is early days but which base is crewing STN-NCL and where does the aircraft start and finish the day, as I believe neither STN or NCL are crew bases, the Southampton Newcastle turns around at present and goes back south and the BHD-NCL is early afternoon.

Also where is the IOM-STN crewed from? A 08.10 departure ex IOM could mean the aircraft is inbound from another station or it over-nights in IOM. Again I suppose all will become clear in a few weeks but it all looks quite convoluted at present.

Interesting to see 12 x 175's scheduled most evenings, having only 11 of them at present (9 BHX & 3 MAN) and again I assume that will change once the schedules are finalised and BHX will be 8.

Also is there any news on BHX - Florence route and if there is any solution to the summer flying other than it is not operating (possibly use Pisa?) due to the lack of an appropriate aircraft. Loads and fares indicate it was a success this summer but only rescued when the 195 eventually took over and it was able to operate near to schedule.

Rivet Joint - Not biased or anything (although I am ;)) I think BHX might be the flybe "Jewel in the crown" with 12 based of which 8 are jets. I think that speaks volumes. As for the 175's would it not be fair to say it was probably the deal that the previous management negotiated that was/is the problem, having flown on them a few times this year (and the Dash) they are simply brilliant even better than the 195 and it is a real shame if the economics don't add up on them.

Did I hear right the other day a 175 burns less than 1300 kilos BHX-AMS - I remember the old BA 1-11's burning 22 some days

OP - Carefull

Pete - They may be tankering back, fuel on the AMS - BHX leg, its very confidential and dependent on commercial agreements - A Viscount could burn 900 Kg BHX to DUB (not sure of the load) from childhood memory !!!!

A Trident broke the number handling on my Casio (RTOW limited by the RWY at Brum) - I think they were sub'd when the S1-11' s were in maint. I lived as a nipper 1.5 MN WNW of the Golf X.

How did the EI 737'200's compare with the 1-11's on the same route ? - bet its comparable with AMS.
