You are right of course over the economy being in the news daily - Well BLK have weathered the downturn much better than most would have expected. |
I bet that Jet2 increase frequency to Alicante and Malaga |
TSR2 - I meant to say rather than expand to the East med - Jet2 IMO would restore frequency to Alicante first...I would love to see Corfu from BLK - But can't see it yet and when the upturn comes Alicante, faro and Malaga are proven goldmines.

Just been analysing the above August statistics.
If you add the passenger numbers together for the stated destinations it totals 31,321. Now add 2,097 for IOM, and 2,878 for Dublin passengers and that gives a total of 36,296 yet the monthly total is 37,367. So where are the missing 1071 passengers. Anyone any ideas ? |
There were 1149 passengers to and from Gas/Oil rigs.
|
Thanks Scottish Flyer, I never thought of that !
|
Anyone still out there??

Yes but ............. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yep Sandgrown....But like TSR2m what is there to talk about?.
I think Blackpool is the only Jet2 base with no new routs, yet BB have felt the need to recruit...Wonder why? |
Britain's most popular seaside resort has spent millions on regeneration but the tourist authorities aren't marketing it to foreign visitors. Are they a little bit ashamed, or are there genuine obstacles? Visitor numbers have risen to 13 million a year - making it more popular than the Taj Mahal or the Statue of Liberty. Cavill now believes people within the UK are rediscovering the resort. "Something like 65% of all people in the UK have been here at some point during their lives - and whether they like it or love it, they're giving it another chance and realising it's not the same Blackpool they visited a few years ago." [[[[[But he acknowledges it hasn't done a very good job of promoting itself abroad.]]]]] "We're not famous for overseas visitors - but now we've got some internationally recognised brands here, like Madame Tussauds, and the Blackpool Eye, to rival the London and Sydney Eye." SOURCE: BBC News - Blackpool: Why isn't it marketed to foreign tourists? |
lots of brits go to france so why not them..........
i can see it now visit le dump a la nord........ |
Dada: Bit unfair that, it has sharpened up its act recently and is not that bad to visit. Needs more but remarks like that don't help.:=
|
je suis just joshing. the seaward side now looks rather nice, its the inward side that wants demolishing.
|
Blackpool prom looks okay these days but its the
hinterland that lets it down or if you like tacky its great. It does always smell of fish and piss. MM |
Irrespective of the marketability of Blackpool as a destination to foreign visitors, the consistently high load factors on the existing destinations would suggest there is a reasonably large demand for flights from Blackpool from UK residents alone. I would have thought that additional destinations would have been forthcoming even on a 'short season' basis, although I realise there may be logistical problems with aircraft availability in high season.

I am surprised that Squires Gate warrants inclusion in these august web pages. Titchy airport. Zero potential.
|
The potential is huge, it's just never been developed yet.

I recently flew from BLK for the first time in ages. What a surreal experience! The departure screen had flights for that day, the day after, and the day after that, there was so much room. No catering facilities were open. In an hour and a half I only saw 4 staff and the 11 other passengers on my Let 410 flight. But what struck me most was, as silverhawk says, the undeveloped potential of the place.
I've long bemoaned the evolution of airports into shopping centres. However, if Blackpool Airport were turned into a shopping centre, at least it would be full of people, even if they weren't flying anywhere. In the evenings it could be an entertainment centre for the local community and visitors to the town, with cinemas and restaurants, maybe a bowling alley or a concert hall. Something to get people through the door and using the space. Anything would be better than the empty shell it now is. I admit it must have been a quiet time when I passed through. I'm sure the catering facilities would be open when a 733 is leaving. But it reminded me of the folly that were shops in the former Soviet Union which sold one thing and had acres of empty shelves. Surreal indeed. |
the seaward side now looks rather nice |
