At the moment it seems unlikely that there will be an open day this year. I was talking to a native yesterday and she was explaining that the tram system is currently a total shambles so this may be the reason. If I get any further information I will let you know but it looks like a fall in Blackpools pax in September.

Oooops, sorry but there is an open day planned for Sunday 11th September at the Brinwell Road depot Blackpool from 12.00 to 16.00 with an admission cost of £1. Blackpool numbers set to soar in September!!!!

Also two 'Tram Events' Sat 25th June and Sat 5th November.

Blackpool International - News - UK and European destinations with both charter and scheduled flights.

Ernest Lanc's 19th June 2011 12:00

Yep - Not forgetting the other airlines such as Air Lingus and Manx2 - Looking better at BLK with a base when the upturn comes.

well get this. according to the gazette, 50 years ago today silver city airways handled a record 8000 pax on more then 200 flights in 3 days to iom, dub, bfs, jer, ncl, ams and dus.
anyone old enough to remember this (ernest?)

rpmac 21st June 2011 21:41

Yes, I may have been one. Flew Leeds to IOM with Silver City, but the return was IOM to Blackpool as fog had closed Leeds. We were bussed back over the Pennines. They were my first flights.

Ernest Lanc's 21st June 2011 23:01

dada - Vaguely remember the JER and IOM - But was young at the time.

I remember booking IOM approx 40 years ago from BLK - But can't remember the airline...In any case Mrs Ernest Lanc's took ill and we never made the airport.

The third Saturday in July will mark the 50th anniversary of my last flight from Blackpool Airport. It was to the IOM on a DC3 of Silver City Airways. Had flown the route the previous year also with Silver City but on a Bristol Wayfarer.

I propose to re-trace my steps and go 'Back to the Future' on the 16th July.

Fond memories.

Ernest Lanc's 4th July 2011 22:31

It seems that every jet2 base bar BLK has got new routes from Jet2....BLK seems to have won the war over early hours with Jet2 returns from PALMA and AGP getting in well before the normal 11Pm - But no expansion at BLK by Jet2.

TSR2 12th July 2011 11:57

From the e-mail circular from Blackpool Airport I notice that the one-off holiday to Italy in September is now being offered at buy-one get one half price.

I bet that has brassed off the people who have already booked.

I bet that has brassed off the people who have already booked.
It's only like buying a pair of shoes one week and finding them on the 1/2 price rack the week after. :{:{

Ernest Lanc's 12th July 2011 17:31

Yea JFP - But TSR2 has a point - I :{when I book and the price drops the next day or even weeks.

TSR2 12th July 2011 19:08

JFP - there is a big difference between the cost of a pair of shoes and the cost of a holiday.

I wonder if sales of this holiday are not doing too well.

Danscowpie 12th July 2011 19:21

JFP - there is a big difference between the cost of a pair of shoes and the cost of a holiday.
Clearly our respective partners shop at seperate establishments.;)

intortola 12th July 2011 19:25

I thought same as Danscowpie, have had cheaper holidays than the Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin shoes that my partner loves to buy!!

take-off 12th July 2011 20:14

So slightly off the shoe topic..:E Does anybody think we'll get some expansion off jet2 next year now Ryanair are to make MAN a major base over next couple of years, surely it would be in BLK's interest to court LS even more, and work together rather than against, even offer the likes of monarch some sweetners to use BLK or anyone else for that matter:ok:
