Why would a building company want to buy an unprofitable aerodrome?
|
Yes, a slight increase after three years of stagnation and almost half what they were at their peak. Do tell me Ernest where you bought those rose tinted specs. I could do with a pair!

Very Sad
I did an apprenticeship with BIA in the '70s, even then the short sighted council drove us away to Norwich. I still work for the company (as such) now KLMuk engineering.
Ironically me the missus, cousins and the spouses flew out to Faro on the 20th sept, had a great time the flights and timings where great, returned on the 27th first time I've flown out of there since Ryanair did stansted. ( used Blackpool as family still live there) I'm sad but most of all fuming with the old cretins on the council for not having vision and investing more in what was their asset. To sell it to BB was pre constructed closure in my opinion and for them to charge the development fee is Robbery and been done Fraudulently for years. I for one will be getting in contact with them and demand my £20 back for this last September. As the payment made was and is not being used for development it's fraud. Any lawyers out here can point me in the right direction. There might be a case here where if they never had plans to use this money for developing its THEFT |

A slight increase is not a decrease, so why try and find a buyer in a few weeks - why not last year, or the year before. jet2 cutting frequency did not help, but then again Jet2 do that, and then expand again. Lots of companies make a loss, but get back into profit. Anyway BLK has gone now, so it's all academic why may or may not have been - with some patience. I am glad you are not PM - You would have shut down the country. |
Quote " Work is currently underway with the independent aviation businesses and tenants at the airport to understand if their operations can continue in the future. "
Some aviation activities may not be lost ??? fingers crossed |
Just wondering why it is , s the winter schedule has gone off jet2 from BLK but you can still book for next summer ? Wonder what happened to the potential interested parties that were being talked about in the media over the last few days, did they not want jet2 there ?

Yes. If something is not viable then it should be shut down if the owners aren't prepared to see it through and a buyer cannot be found. I'm lucky enough to not call Blackpool home but if I did I'd not be happy that my council would be propping the place up and no central government would bail the place out - this isn't Scotland remember. Closure is the only option. With LS cutting 10% then your whopping increase in pax figures would be back to stagnating and still half that of the peak.

Closure
I really hope that a similar situation can be found for Blackpool as happened with Coventry a few years back. That did take a multi millionaire though.
Very sad which ever way you look at it. Centre cities |
Why would (bb) want to keep an airfield open just so a few private jets and bit of general aviation can fly out and about , really doesn't make sense to say they are talking to those on site , to see what can and can't be done , surely the traffic that's left still won't be enough to keep it going ? Lot of ifs and buts , had the council let Disney build euro disney here as rumoured the casino , all the years back easyjet were interested before going to liverpool , so many what ifs ... Black pools motto is supposed to be progress , what a f@&£ing joke , just to add insult to injury , the council turn round and want to build a hotel , saying what we got already isn't good enough , not the Hilton the imperial all the private hoteliers either ploughing their hard earned money , just so the bleepers at the council can build a shiny new hotel in a place that nobodies likely wanting to stay , much like the spanking new sainsburys , I was in Sunday , you could count on one hand the customers , hopefully the staff at the airport will find suitable employment elsewhere , most likely the pound shops , apologies for the rant but really lost for words , I used to defend blackpool against those that knocked it , but really can't find the will or actually any worth defending , hopefully somebody will turn last light off soon ... Sad sad day .......

Fa2fi , personally I would rather see the council , or local councils get together and run blackpool for the benefit of the region, any profit ploughed back into the running of the airport , now I know that it's probably easier said than done , the amount of people that have spoken recently about the loss of blackpool that don't live in Blackpool is surprising , so demand is there and has been said growing too , they just needed a better way of making money from it , because surely supporting something that has employ, ent based there, is money going back into the local economy . Really you think people should be happy the the council are borrowing money to build a hotel for a global hotel chain , all the while sticking 2 fingers up to local hoteliers and residents who don't want it ?
Goodnight all |
Started this thread a long time ago. Will end this thread very shortly. No Airfield, end of story.
Pprune lost all relevance in this industry when Danny sold it and the new owners submitted to pressure from legal departments from various big airlines. Real men don't fold in the face of adversity. |
