I think an appropriate new name for BLK would be:- The Gorden Brown International Airport. How good is that?.:ugh: |

The 1970's Charlie Cairoli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Blackpool has always been famous for its Circus and clowns , its just moved up the prom to Squires Gate over the past few years ! Its always been a bit slapstick ;) |
rufus: I agree Blackpool was famous for the circus and the tower, deck chairs and crowded beach. But now Blackpool is more famous for the Pleasure Beach I reckon.
Suzeman. Has Blackpool airport at some stage been called Squires Gate Airport?, just rings a bell. Now I think Blackpool International Airport sounds just grand. But if it has to have a handle that is not a joke, what about:- The Stanley Mathews Airport. |
A bit topical maybe
Richard (Dick) Turpin Airport |

The ADC will in no way pay for the runway resurfacing work, it would take years to recoup it. I think it was a tactical move to get rid of Ryanair and the £350k bill it was costing to keep them there without breaking contracts.
Better late then never for the runway improvements, I for one am very pleased to see the work start. Might I just say though that there is zero development going on. R28/10 No longer just repair work to make it safe Taxiway Alpha - same route, proper substrate going in getting rid of the dispensation from the CAA that allowed them to use it for 73's without proper records being kept historically So all that money spent to stand still, no plans to upgrade the 13 threshold to allow to 73's to pass, no parallel taxiway, no control tower. They are just firefighting to keep the place open, speaking of which expect a new firestation soon as the CAA are unhappy with repsonce times from their current location which is additional expense they genuinely could have done without Blackpool is on a 10 year probation, you would normally write off a runway surface over a 10 year period anyway. I for one hope it continues to be an airport. Regards the ADC why didn't somebody think to give the PAx a £2 voucher for the Cafe or a £5 voucher for the duty free as they hand over the £10. it would generate goodwill and it would be easily recouped by a modest price increase in both areas and it wold also get people spending before they got on board something that the airport needs |
I propose 'Ray Quigley Memorial Airport' but post date it for 50 years Are they getting rid of that ruddy great hole at the entrance to the Apron?? Something really needs to be done about ground movements at BLK. The only way any aircraft of reasonable size (i.e. 737, 320 etc)can get to the runway is via Alpha. 10 in use, you would have to hold on the apron whilst landing 737 rolls out and backtracks, exits and onto stand. How long between movements? 10 mins or so? 6 an hour? Hardly compares with LGWs record for a single runway airport of near on 70 movements in an hour. Not that you'd have that many. 28 similar problem, except it's obviously the departing traffic that's on the runway for a long time. Perhaps 13/31 could be strengthened to make it an RET from 28? At least you could get stuff out to the threshold of 10 prior to landing traffic? And, Silverhawk, this could be your best bet, it could be called LINK ROMEO QUEBEC!!!! The runway repair is laudable, but hardly scratches the surface in terms of the airport justifying its name of Blackpool INTERNATIONAL Airport. We can but hope. |
Well, Blackpool International Airstrip it must be!
There certainly ain't another airport like it. Anywhere. We Hope... |

The second was in Oct last year when the outbound flight to Malaga was aborted due to a smell of fuel in the cabin. I must say that the aircraft was tested and found to be OK after a 2 hour delay. BTW: Within moments of aborting the aircraft had fire appliances in attendance, so yes despite the roller coaster rides the airport IS safe howard.
