take-off 16th September 2009 09:14

So are we to see reductions year on year then, look on the Jet2 thread and they talk of thomson not wanting people to fly from Lbs and using DSA instead and it not working, the risk LS have of cutting routes from BLK and wanting them to fly from MAN instead is that everyman and his dog fly blk's routes form Man or lpl, or even LBA, so in choosing MAN, id be looking at other operator flight/ holiday prices, rather than from BLK, LS have a captive audience so to speak. As said before , what other operator would be intersted in BLK?

MUFC_fan 16th September 2009 15:04

Does anyone know why the Jet2 flight from Malaga isn't due in until 2am?

Deaf Tortoise 16th September 2009 17:04

I believe it needs a new window up the pointy end. (cracked) :ooh:
The replacement needs to be flown down to AGP from the UK somewhere for fitting.
How or why this is, I am afraid I have no idea.
Please forgive me if this is in any way incorrect, I am not an engineer.

TSR2 16th September 2009 20:09

That's 2am into MAN, 3am into Blackpool.

MUFC_fan 16th September 2009 20:16

Is BLK now a 24 hour airport?!

What is with the MAN diversion? Is this to avoid paying customs officers at BLK?!:ok:

TSR2 16th September 2009 21:39

As I understand the situation, Blackpool Airport is closed to arriving and departing aircraft at midnight.

The delayed LS762 is shown on MAN arrivals as 02.00. It is shown on Blackpool arrivals as 03.00. I can only assume passengers will be bussed between Manchester and Blackpool and the aircraft ferried back to Blackpool early in the morning.

Only my assumptions and would be glad to be corrected if wrong.

TSR2 16th September 2009 21:42

Is this to avoid paying customs officers at BLK
and probably fire cover and ATC as well.

MUFC_fan 16th September 2009 21:44

Sorry, I was assuming the a/c would fly into BLK at 3am meaning they would still need ATC, fire, ground handler etc. but no customs but having thought about it, the airport closes at midnight and it would surely not be worth paying the extra fees, fuel etc. going via MAN than it would be just saving on customs at BLK.

EGBKFLYER 17th September 2009 17:23

It flew back to BLK today, following overnight work. Pax were happy to be home :\. J2 offered them a free flight in the future, although the two issues (a foreign object in a nose tyre and a cracked window) were just bad luck. Don't get that on Ryanair I bet!:ok:

BLK isn't H24. Nothing to do with paying anyone. J2 can sometimes secure an extension for a while if the a/c is a bit late, but the ETA last night was flexible and well beyond hours for BLK staff. MAN flight followed by bus to BLK was the plan but the repairs took longer than planned.

Sandgrown 17th September 2009 19:16

It would be nice to have a REAL airport at Blackpool....

:yuk::yuk:

Sandgrown: BLK will be open 24/7 when/if they have a/c movement the same.

MUFC_fan 17th September 2009 19:49

Sandgrown, thanks for the constructive comment - can you define REAL airport please?

Thanks!:ok:

Ballymoss 17th September 2009 20:51

BLK will be open 24/7 when/if they have a/c movement the same
That's a bit of a rash statement. If there was (which there currently isn't) a demand for H24 a/c movements, they wont be happening at BLK anytime soon. It's not an H24 airport and is (under)staffed accordingly! Delays beyond the witching hour are nigh on impossible for the place to manage. The brimming pot of £10 notes isn't going to change this situation:\ The southside NIMBYs will also have their say in that regard.

Sandgrown: Don't be so rude, of course it's a real airport:= The infrastructure(?) is tangible and not just a figment of our imaginations;)

Ernest Lanc's 17th September 2009 20:59

I know BLK won't be a H24 airport soon, and maybe never.

I made that point in response to Sandgrown who I think was saying BLK is not a proper airport because it shuts at midnight.

IF Sandgrowns argument holds water - Then it would follow that Murcia also was not a proper airport, wouldn't it?.

I agree "NIMBYs" are everywhere and would put more than their peneth in.

MUFC_fan 17th September 2009 21:01

London City closes on a Saturday afternoon - a real airport?

planenut321 17th September 2009 21:33

:8Airport:
a tract of land or water with facilities for the landing, takeoff, shelter, supply, and repair of aircraft, esp. one used for receiving or discharging passengers and cargo at regularly scheduled times.

I think that may include Blackpool :P

Ernest Lanc's 19th September 2009 14:00

Blackpool Left OUT???

Normally optimistic: I am not sure I like the new trend of the JET2 New Routes.

Blackpool is the only one of the JET2 six basis to miss out - No new routes thus far except for JERSEY which was a net loss with MAH and IBIZA gone.

LINK: New Cheap Flight Routes | Jet2.com

The new route page does not include the NEW Blackpool to Jersey route, so are JET2 losing interest at BLK?.

I hope not - But food for thought.

planenut321

Thank's for that definition of an airport. I wondered that that dirty big length of asphalt was for. now I know:ok:.

airhumberside 19th September 2009 14:47

Blackpool is the only one of the JET2 six basis to miss out
Nothing new for EDI yet either (in fact nothing at all for EDI yet)

Ernest Lanc's 19th September 2009 18:25

Yes sorry I missed EDI due to the fact I forgot JET2 had another base.:O

silverhawk 20th September 2009 10:08

Blackpool not left out.

All of the Summer schedule 2010 just not announced yet. When it's finalised then it will be announced.

Blackpool pilots for Jet2 flew more hours over this Summer than any other base. Next Summer's workload will be just as busy.
