Emirates Increases Capacity to London, Adds 10th Daily Service Two more A380 (two class configuration) with delivery in the 4th quarter of 2017 ordered. From now until the end of 2017, Emirates will retire 30 older aircraft from our fleet. At the same time, to meet our growth expectations, we will receive delivery of 24 new Boeing 777, and 33 new A380 aircraft including these two additional A380 aircraft just ordered. |

With the new 7th daily Bangkok service announced, if they ever think they'll go for more, do you think they would consider a service to Don Mueang? Found it to be quite a pleasant experience in August 2014, plus it's closer to the city so might be appealing

Don Mueang might need money spending to make it capable of handling the A380 but B777 would be possible. Suvarnabhumi is operating above design capacity at the moment and Air Asia got kicked over to DMK.
Operating from two different airports in the same city increases costs for an airline, EK operate from Heathrow and Gatwick because of severe limits on slot availability at LHR though there are enough LGW flights to make it worthwhile having the staff there and operating premium passenger lounges. The catchment area for passengers may be increased and flight timings conveniently spaced out between both airports to provide a wide choice of departure times. I wouldn't be worth the additional costs to operate from another airport just for a single daily flight and I'm sure Emirates have enough money and "influence" to get the slots they need at Suvarnabhumi which has more convenient connections and transport links to the city. |

What is the reasoning behind BKK, LIS and FCO? Also surprising to see seasonal reduction to OSL, do you know why? Just low demand or A/C shortage?

Just low demand or A/C shortage? Delta has also just announced capacity cuts for the winter. With Turkey now unravelling and Brexit uncertainty in an already slowing economy, 2017 could be an interesting year. |
But as mentioned BKK will be 5 daily A380 (some with 2-class) + daily B77W (DXB-BKK-SYD-CHC should be A380 by next year) and flydubai (other company but with connection to EK) will start double daily flights to BKK on 29th November. Due to this total capacity to BKK will be increased.
FCO will be double daily A380 instead of twice daily B77W and daily A380. If they put a 519 seater A380 to FCO it will be 1.038 seats a day compared to 1.209 (2x360 + 1x489) which is just a bit less capacity than today. QR after buying a 49% stake of Meridiana will have more influence and opportunities in Italy going forward and they put their Dreamliners to FCO and MXP which passenger might prefer compared to a B77W. Situation in Turkey and Istanbul (several terror attacks in the past months) is clear and the cancellation of SAW comprehensible. Besides a A332 (which will leave the fleet soon) would fit much better on that route than a larger B777. 2nd daily to LIS was introduced this January but as it seems the demand is not there (right now) to justify a 2nd daily flight. Maybe in the past EK doesn't matter that much if a route could not fullfill their expectations and they had the time to wait to make this route profitable. Today they reduce in advance once they see it doesn't work (like any other airline on this planet). |
Emirates did some further (last minute) changes. As a consequence more temporary service cancellations took place to move forward the phase out of the last remaining A343 to August. Most of B772 and A332 to be gone by year end and starting 2017 EK will start to phase out the last remaining B773 by switching the routes to B77W or A380.
Since 1st July KHI was reduced from 7 to 5 daily as EK610/611 and EK618/619 were suspended. HKT will be temporary reduced to 11 weekly as 3 weekly EK394/395 will be cancelled from 1st August but on 30th October EK396/397 will be increased from 4 weekly to daily so HKT will be double daily once agian. DFW will remain with B77W and won't change back to A380 from 1st September. KUL gets a second daily A380 from 1st September & MXP from 1st October.
