It seems to me that rather than allowing TC to collapse leaving 160,000 people stranded, and then pay other airlines to recover all these people, the CAA should provide the financial support and guarantees to enable TC to continue operating the flights needed to do that, including paying over the amounts held by them for hotels and transfers.

It's almost a no-brainer that the cost of doing that would be far less than paying other carriers to operate - I dunno - 700 - 800 charter flights between the resorts and the UK, to say nothing of picking up hotel and transfer costs.

But what do I know? (OK, I do know that the CAA are not financial wizards.).

Exactly. The last time they started off asking for £150m it turned into £900m and then £1.1bn.

They've previously lost £1.5bn in a period when they didn't have to cope with Brexit, a weakening currency, and political instability in the ME putting fuel prices at risk of steep increase. It could take a lot to get then through this winter :(

All seems to be routine again today. Hoping the meeting will have a successful outcome.
Looking forward to my first flight on the “I 💛 C*cks” plane this evening.
Feel sorry for crewing, they’ve been having a hard time recently with crew going sick for duties because they think they won’t be paid.

EDIT: And to argue against posts from yesterday afternoon, all the passengers on last nights/this mornings AYT were nothing but supportive, and their kind words meant a lot to us crew, lots of well wishes and hand shakes and hugs at the door as the pax got off. Lovely to see.

I’m sorry for all the hurt and fear and uncertainty that is going on With Thomas Cook but we have to realise this is not the first time this situation has arisen, we have seen this happen year on year, yes they have struggled through and hung on but what have they changed in the business model to stop it happening again a year later.
I know it’s a strong British Brand but that’s about it.
times have moved on as we all know but Thomas Cook thought its brand will keep it afloat.

I would love Thomas Cook to get through this but I’m thinking the damage is just to deep this time round.
I understand it’s peoples jobs and pays for roofs over families head but we have to be realistic and not nostalgic.

Without a massive cash boost, change, restructuring and ideally a totally different business model in afraid realistically I don’t see a future for Thomas Cook.

Thoughts are with crew and customers and I hope things turn out for the best.

Repatriation WTF!?

It is sad to see fellow Aviators loose the job.
That said I find it amusing at best to read the drama Queens going on about poor Pax stranded.
If a company goes bust it stops operation .
END OFF.
Why in the name of communism or capitalism should any Government Agency give a toss about ANY so called stranded Pax.
Use Creditcard or get insurance or bring cash and debitcard.
So You Holiday is ruined, big deal stupid!

20 000 people is out of a job!!
THAT is a big deal!

Regards

Whilst I agree with you about 20,000 job losses being a big deal, I think the fact customers pay to keep us, and many others, in jobs it is fair to say there should still be a degree of sympathy for people who will have their holidays cancelled at very short notice. A lot of normal, working class people save all year for that one holiday and it’s difficult for them.

I do think the media is milking stories of “stranded pax” but this is the sort of world we live in now.

Because your industry wouldn't exist without that protection. Mass tourism would take place in Blackpool, as that's all the risk people without airline pilot's salaries would be able to bear.

Wow what a comment to make, you wouldn’t be sitting at the pointed end without the people you speak so little of.
It’s very worrying you would have such disrespect for the people that enabled you to have the job you do.

Hate to quote myself, but confirmed as heading for MAN.
Maybe the meeting didn’t go too well and the CAA have “pressed the button”. Should be arriving around 01:00L.

" Your Industry would not exist without that protection"
Are You for real! This ATOL stuff is new, and few if any Country has a similar system. So , how come the Airline Industry is alive and well.
Your capacity for logic is not good!

My profession did relay good before mass tourism and will do much better without it!
As an example, ask any of the locals in Venezia or Barcelona about the benefit of "Mass Tourism" then get back to me.
Enjoy Blackpool,

I think someone is reminiscing the golden age of aviation. Back on topic... A government bailout has been ruled out by Dominic Raab so over to the brave investor.

I suppose it is if 1974 is new. The arrangements go back to the collapse of Clarkson/Court Line when there was not enough money in the operator's bond to refund all the advance bookings.

Having gone through this myself with monarch I cannot tell you the pain and the uncertainty that the ladies & gents @ TCX will be going through right now. I have everything crossed for you all.

I wish you all the very best and if anyone of you want to talk, rant then please feel free to drop me a line. We are all one big family in this industry and we should support each other.

Xxx

High capacity Haji A380 heading for MAN... Mmm.

Anyone that have booked a tqt with Thomas Cook without a plan B lately is by definition not bright.
And I reserve the right to point that out.
I do not depend on mass tourism for the poor for my position as You believe.
I am considering switching to Corporate or Cargo as I am well cured of the flying masses.

Whilst I personally don’t see the path being sunny for TCX, why would a Repatriation A/C fly to MAN? There’s no Malaysian crew that fly in/out of the north of the U.K., MAN struggles to park aircraft at the best of times, even worse if TCX were grounded here and there are no pax to repatriate from the U.K.

No pax to repatriate? What about those who are in resort, those who flew in the last week and have a 2 week holiday?
