A friend of mine works tor TCX at Manchester and he always said well at least the airline makes money

slfsteve 22nd Sep 2019 22:18

So does the Uk side of the business go or everything with a Thomas cook logo ?

Hopefully the airline line side will be picked up and continue although that’s no comfort for what’s left of the 9000 staff.

Aparently, at least on the short haul side, the tour operation has been buying up unsold seats to make it look profitable.

Perhaps a stupid question, but are thomas cook germany/condor to go bankrupt if thomas cook uk do or are they operated as 2 companies entirely separate from one another?

All the companies will be set up with different Legal status in their operating countries. The overall Holding company is Thomas Cook PLC or whatever name it goes under.

Each of the subsidaries will trade separately hence why a pilot going from Thomas Cook UK Ltd would transfer to Thomas Cook GMBH if going to Germany etc, names will not be correct but you get the idea.

When PLC / Holding company enters administration the court appointed people will seek to sell off whatever is trading as quickly as possibly with as little as disruption as possible (same with every administration). Simple reason for this is they need to be paid as well.

Anything that is unprofitable or has huge future liabilities will just be closed down quickly and everything disposed of quickly i.e. Landing slots, aircraft.

BBC update at 2304 on Thomas Cook

BBC television news reporting that no press release on Thomas Cooks trading position is. expected until after 0200 hours when most of fleet is on ground or inbound. BBC reiterating that Department of Transport ready for repatriation of clients if TCX goes into administration on Monday 23rd. Sky News reporting similar. Brink of collapse and could fold in hours according to BBC. Very sad news if confirmed. End of an era not helped by poor Board strategy over the last few years.

It looks like The Independent may have jumped the gun a bit.

A quick look at Flight Radar shows all Thomas Cook aircraft heading one direction - home. Not looking good.

Condor have updated their website with a banner stating "Update on current media articles: Condor continues to fly! Flights are operating as scheduled"

eeerrrrr, they would be...no more UK departures until 5am ( hopefully ).

nowhereasfiled 22nd Sep 2019 22:35

Apart from the Malaysian A380, there Doesn’t appear to be any convoys of aircraft making a B-Line for the U.K. like the Qatar aircraft in 2017.

I think there is more to this. It’s not over till it’s over.

750XL 22nd Sep 2019 22:39

Just 2 departures left (I think), one from NBE and LCA. If an announcement comes, it'll be after these take off.

There are 3 Eastern 767's sat at Shannon, all arrived this afternoon, may or may not be related, but your right...there were far more in place in anticipation of MON's demise, lets hope thats a good sign.

...an Omni Int 772 is just about to join the Easterns at SNN.

Enfhida airport website now showing a Titan Airways flight back to MAN with identical timing and flight number to the scheduled Thomas Cook flight tomorrow morning. Not looking good!

Best of of luck to everyone at Thomas Cook.

Appears crew are being told to report as normal for tomorrow mornings flights. Can any TC crew on here confirm/deny that?

Buster the Bear 22nd Sep 2019 22:43

I assume Avion Express would be contracted to fly folk home by the CAA?

Lucky_Luke2 22nd Sep 2019 22:51

They are one of the more likely airlines to partake in the repatriotation.

However chances are that both SmartLynx and Avion Express might have issues to staff the flights, because apparently both operated under a damp lease agreement where the ACMI carrier only provides cockpit crew, while cabin crew is coming from the lessee.

paully 22nd Sep 2019 22:57

Maybe TC have already sent out the expected press release but embargoed it until a certain time. A commonly used tactic hence all news streams with the same large hint..... except the Independent who for whatever reason have maybe done something different..

Sad times.

Another great British company and airline lost.
