I've just had ten minutes to look at these tweets (and there are a lot more) it looks like the hoteliers have taken the onus on themselves (and rightly so, if they won't be paid), to act. This is the worst case scenario. I didn't even predict this, I predicted a situation with holidaymakers left in their resorts for the duration of their holidays and then repatriated. I didn't forsee that the hotel owners might start turfing folk out. That will be a major problem that might push the bill over the £600m figure.
This could get very interesting in the next 12 hours if its replicated in other resorts. |

I fear that more damage has been done in the past 48hrs than in the past month. Bookings dried up and guests being held at hotels. As ex Monarch it was sickening to watch SKY news lock their sights on us. But someone was leaking stuff to the press, and I guess I’ll never know who. I kid you not, our CEO Andrew Swaffield was telling us not to believe SKY news. Think that was 2 days before Game Over. The media, especially SKY, relish bad news. Just listen next time they report about on going tensions around the world, and how quick they resort to the topic of War. My thoughts are with my Brothers from another Mother, and of course Sisters. I truly hope a deal is secured. In the meantime as mentioned before, if you have everything stored on company digital servers download them ASAP. Training records, Last LPC/OPC, pay slips and P60s. The Monarch administrators shut down our servers straight away. But BALPA did an awesome job having them reinstated. PS Take note if Emirates email you saying sorry and inviting you to their instant open day. We hadn’t even gone bust but they somehow knew the day before. Good luck all. |

Yep, eastJet holidays is being run by a lot of ex TUI/Thomson, big relaunch on the way. Having seen some of the resorts they are signing up they look pretty sweet. |

I am wondering where this might leave the caa/atol and the air travel trust. The figures being banded around are about £170million in the trust currently, plus a further insured £400million (whether self-insured by government is unclear)
Going to be hard to get an exact figure, however, in the event of collapse that isn't going to leave anything left going forward. I think what continues to amaze me is there must be a number of people still travelling on holidays without insurance and/or cover for airline failure. |

Not a good situation to be in, but it's not over until it's over. Thoughts of course with employees and families.
I don't think there is much chance of, or indeed justification for, a government bailout. Consumer confidence in the brand may be fatally wounded following the media storm, and the social-media-group-hysteria effect is in full force which will make any future investors very nervous. It would be a sad loss of a UK brand. Hopefully the profitable parts of the business can be kept running as going concern and grow into a new era in some form. Personally, have holidayed with TC as a civilian and found all staff to be fantastic. Wish them all the very best. |
