G-MIDX returned from EMA today and immediately entered service. Apparently her interior has been modified to BA standard as expected. However, she has returned in the same Star Alliance scheme that she left with. Wonder if BA are planning on painting her elsewhere such as LHR?

Skipness One Echo 13th May 2012 22:25

G-MIDS was also around LHR today in STAR colours. Oddball arrival was G-DOCU positioning in from Genoa for repairs to the gash in the fuselage.

cornishsimon 14th May 2012 00:56

By all accounts some very expensive repairs if they carry them out

Aero Mad 14th May 2012 06:53

Well... ouch.

Omnipresent 14th May 2012 07:58

Regarding LGW and short-haul, I suspect the extra 56 bmi slot pairs at LHR has changed the dynamic considerably.

KW said that 1/3rd of the bmi slots would eventually be converted to long-haul leaving a lot of extra short-haul capacity at LHR to be filled.

Leeds-Bradford and Rotterdam took most people by surprise so who knows what is next?!

Just possibly some of the BD routes that were closed by LH (in order to recycle slots) were not so loss-making as was implied, and BA may see some potential in reviving them.

As mentioned before on another thread, the BD name is well known and has/had a good reputation in the UK, Ireland and the "near abroad".

Some if not most of the BA 767s are in desparate need of a refurb though - always try to avoid them, for this reason, whenever flying medium or LH. Personally wish they had gone to the RAF as tankers!

CabinCrewe 14th May 2012 18:17

Most of the 767's will be refurbished and infact it process has started for the second 767 which is a short haul config machine, so I wouldnt give up on the 767 quite yet, theyll be around for many more years to come

backseatjock 14th May 2012 19:05

CabinCrewe - I guessed they would be around for a while and had heard rumours of a refurb. Is this to domestic, SH or LH spec?

Having worked on the attempt to get rid of the 767s to the RAF I guess I just don't like flying on them. Had a particularly awful flight back from IAD one time. Like many of the 744s (love this acft) they are getting rather long in the tooth now but I guess the economics of business life today mean they have to fly on for some years yet. Like the 737s at LGW.

I'm not BA knocking, by the way, I'm a very frequent flyer on both short and long haul. Will continue to do so.

And to those who suggest keeping the BMI 330s, unless the all too regular technical problems can be sorted, I really wouldn't bother. Reliability and punctuality on the RUH sector was, in recent months, quite apalling as a result!

CabinCrewe 14th May 2012 21:33

There are two refurb programs, a less ambitious tidy up (panels, lighting, bins, carpets) to SH 767s and a slightly more noticeable refurb of the LH 767's including refurb of the existing CW seat. Will be suitable refurb to do them until replaced. One SH in progress one LH completed and in service.

cornishsimon 14th May 2012 22:33

I think that one Longhaul 767 is currently in service and a 2nd is now down at CWL.

The first shorthaul 767 is now down at LGW being worked on

The SH refits are a little more involved than that cabincrew. They are also having new '777-300' style seats in eurotraveller, a new type of seat for club europe, a more up to date digital IFE system with flat screen replacing the ancient screens hanging from the ceilings and on the bulk heads. All 7 SH aircraft are being refitted and 7 of the LH.

The 767s are not getting 77W seats, their current seats are merely being re-covered with the same material.

Kind regards

Mike

British Airways

I cannot be bothered reading 94 pages so how likely is it that British Airways will add Heathrow to Osaka ? Also how likely is it that LHR-BHD and LHR-DUB will remain in the long term ? Will british airways keep the same frequency on these routes (BHD,DUB) as Bmi did ?

If you make the effort to read from P95 backwards you'll see your second question answered in part. Capacity to Japan is well down on what it was a few years back but OSA is an old BA route that may return once the BMI slots are bedded in.

Mlinnie 17th May 2012 20:08

Osaka

Ok thanks but why was it dropped in the first place ? And when was it dropped ?

Off Stand 17th May 2012 20:34

Really aeulad?

Taken from the BA intranet;

Shorthaul
Club Europe seats will be refurbished with new foam interiors and new dark blue leather covers. The Euro Traveller cabin will feature new seats based on the Boeing 777-300 World Traveller seat.

The WT seats on the LH aircraft are being recovered.

aeulad 18th May 2012 07:21

Point taken, I was on about the LH aircraft:ok:

Kind regards

Mike

I can't remember the exact date, but it was when the Japanese economy was seriously stalling.
