What is the political impact of BA operating to Tehran?

Fairdealfrank 22nd Jul 2012 01:21

Quote: "What is the political impact of BA operating to Tehran?"

Would imagine that it's exactly the same as BD.

champair79 22nd Jul 2012 09:51

I believe there was some restriction on operating to Tehran - something along the lines of 'the flag carrier' of the UK in this instance cannot operate. Hence why bmi operated it rather than BA. Might have got this story wrong though, I just remember reading it somewhere.

There was some concern that Tehran might have to be canned if BA couldn't get the traffic rights. Fortunately, common sense seems to have prevailed and BA have been allowed to operate there.

Guessing the technical issues remain at LGW. Today's BA2624/5 LGW-NCE-LGW was operated by bmi A320 G-MEDK. Nice for them passengers in the first 6 rows! :ok:

Would imagine that IR want to continue flying in and out of LHR. These arrangements are reciprocal.

They must have realised it's not 1987 anymore.

One of the first things BA did when it took over BD was work to identify what routes were performing well and which were not. All the routes have been dropped have been found to be loss making routes and show no sign of possible improvements to there revenue performance. Below is a list of the routes dropped and the date that they ceased or are planned to cease operation.

Addis Ababa - BA ended flights to ADD on the 12th June.

Amristar- Last flight will depart LHR 25th Oct & departs ATQ 26th Oct

Bishkek - Last flight will depart LHR 29th Sept & departs FRU 30th Sept

Casablanca - Last flight will operate 27th Oct.

Damman - Last flight will depart LHR & DMM on 15th Sept

Khartoum - Last flight will depart LHR 29th Sept & depart KRT 30th Sep

Yerevan - Last Flight will depart LHR 17th Oct. Last departure from EVN will be 18th Oct

BA will also end BD flights to destinations already served by BA. Below is a list of the routes along with the date that the BD frequencies will cease to operate.

Cairo - Daily BD service will end 4th September

Jeddah - 3 x Weekly BD service via RUH will end 14th September

Riyadh - 6 x Weekly BD service will end 15th September

Moscow - 2 x Daily BD service will end 12th October

From the 1st October BA flights to BSL will all operate from T1, all flights to NCE will operate from T5 and all flights to VIE will operate from T3. BA frequencies to BSL, NCE & VIE that currently operate from T1 with 4 digit flight BA numbers starting BA8xxx will be dropped from 1st October.

BA night stopping in Freetown? Eek!

Peter47 26th Jul 2012 20:40

Really interesting BAladdy, thanks!

Presumably the following are:

ATL daily 4 class 772
BKK/SYD daily 747
BWI daily 3 class 763
SIN daily 747
SIN/SYD daily 747

Also do you have any info on BOS?

As a matter of interest does BA determine the configuration of 744 (Hi / Lo J) in advance or tactically nearer the date of departure?

cornishsimon 26th Jul 2012 21:15

BKK/SYD no longer goes trough to SYD.

Peter47 27th Jul 2012 15:40

Good point cs - yes of course they stopped with the summer timetable!

Freetown - Former BD destination and a NEW route to the BA network starting W12/13.
I heard yesterday that WW crew will not be nightstopping in FNA but in ACE instead?! Anyone heard this or is this just a random rumour? It's roughly 3 hours FNA-ACE so be very surprised if it was true!

queenvic 28th Jul 2012 16:20

heard someone y'day say they maybe staying in Dakar, Senegal.
No idea if this is true but major issues with the BMI hotel in Freetown.

Aircrew101 4th Aug 2012 23:20

Can anyone tell me why the Riyadh was canceled this evening please?

Skipness One Echo 7th Aug 2012 23:27

Just as a point of interest (or possibly not !!), I noticed the regular SHT9Y EDI-LHR was on the ex bmi G-DBCG, into T5 on Stand 501. Cross fleeting already?

Timmyflyer 8th Aug 2012 01:20

About 6 A319's have been transferred to BA and being operated by BA crew.

Skipness One Echo 8th Aug 2012 10:47

I know, they're common on ex BMI routes from T1, this was T5, where they like A319s to pallet load!

New LHR - ALC Route

I see that BA are starting to offer this route at weekends [F/S/S] at a competetive £71 each way [when one considers that there are no 'hidden' luggage/speedy boarding etc costs]
A pity that the arrival into LHR in the early evening limits same day onward connections to most of BA's continental destinations. Or is this a deliberate strategy, so as to ensure that Iberia do not lose pax flying via Madrid?

adfly 8th Aug 2012 14:20

ALC

Interesting! would have expected to see ALC ex. LGW once or twice a day catering for the same market the LGW-AGP does so. I'd imagine this is filling in for downtime when there is less demand/flights to business oriented destinations.
