Also have removed all concrete bases, electrical cables and the breaker shed.. into "storage" with concrete blocks which have been burried in the ground since 2004?? Pull the other one. Not that there's and talks still ongoing but it certainly is making it very off putting to any potential prospective buyer looking in.

It does worry me the naivety of some people in Doncaster. Presumably they will be trying to reopen the pits soon!

Probably terms of lease, once it’s ended return the land to how it was before. I’m guessing that all of the wiring, power supply and footings were brand new in 2004 and there was no legacy equipment from the military days? Still, it does show clear intent by Peel and I think that response by Ros Jones was a knee jerk reaction which has subsequently sparked this Article 4 Direction.

In other news, I think the cut off for consultation regarding the Article 4 Directive is next Wednesday. Nick Fletcher has found another point to score too by announcing the cancellation of Fridays planned meeting even though he was apparently notified ahead of time that it was going to be rescheduled. Looks like a great place to do business and invest doesn’t it.

Peel fiddling whilst Gordon burns, or whatever the saying is.

Pug, have seen your post on F4A, by towers, I meant the framework for the approach lighting. More airside stuff will dissapear as the weeks go on, mostly under the cover of darkness.

Thanks for clarity, do you know where they are being stored? On the approach to another airports runway? Seem to recall the ones from Sheffield City ended up at Tollerton or somewhere like that.

What else is due to be removed?

I've been told first hand from Nick Fletcher that the lease option is now off the table.

With the small difference that Meigs Field was both popular with its users and near a large urban centre.

I do wish Ros Jones would stop misleading the public in saying talks with "interested parties" are still ongoing. If she wants to call DMBC an interested party then so be it but she's implying and then Sir All Hail Chadwick is then reposting this giving what can only be described as false hope.

The UAE left the table months ago.

If talks we're ongoing, why would you be storing, sorry, I meant to say ripping out vitial airport infrastructure and continue to make plans to butcher more of it.

I note she mentioned the 24400 tonnes of freight the airport handled in the year before closure. What she failed to mention was the 440000 tonnes its nearest competitor handled in the same period. Lots has been said about the re-opening of Manston, however it would appear that their business plan by RSP has been shut down by York Aviation, their response? ‘York Aviation doesn’t even justify a response’.

Seems regional airports are good ways for heroic politicians to ‘save the day’ and award their mates development land for pennies all in the name of economic development.

If local public servants wanted to Save DSA they would have done so over a year ago when they had the chance. All they are doing now is delaying the inevitable and making it difficult for Peel to move ahead with other plans that may contribute to the economy in other ways.

Peel won’t sell because nobody will pay the asking price for an under-performing airport.

Just out of interest; If DSA was to reopen, where or who would the flying come from?

Tui have redeployed elsewhere.

Wizz left well before the shutters closed.

Ezy tried and failed to make it work.

flyBe tried. Went bust.

As an outsider who doesn’t follow the goings on at DSA that closely, I’m genuinely scratching my head here.

Tui and others have apparently said they would come back. I think for Tui it worked well.

Who knows whether that would happen or not. If the council buy the land, can't run an airport, they can always develop on it...

Wizz have said they wouldn’t return. TUI did work well there and shows that without competition DSA could fill the aircraft, just a shame easyjet never found it viable to carry on as we wouldn’t have been having this discussion now.

Add to that the regular freight operations with vegetables from Africa appears to have decamped (successfully) to the European mainland.

It is going to be hard to make a business case for the reopening of a commercial airport on the scale of the former DSA.

The loaded question is what are TUI going to do about being No 2 in the UK IT market?

TUI have had their issues post COVID but are now a stronger company than they have been.

At a time when Jet2 have seen fit to remove flight only from weekend schedules the IT package has become more popular than independent travel.

It’s been stated already that Jet2 will not move to DSA, but TUI could accomplish a steal on the Yorkshire/Lincs and North Notts market Jet2 have to themselves at LBA if they committed a 12 aircraft base at DSA, and in doing so help towards regaining their No 1 market position.

There is good social media support for DSA all with the “bring in Jet2” & “ I would use it if they went to …” but that’s only because Jet2 are seen to be offering an acceptable quality, convenient, varied, value product which TUI are also capable of.

People don’t use LBA because they want to, they use LBA because that’s where jet2 fly from. TUI could quite easily position themselves similarly at DSA.

Is it not a case that one airline with the right presence and product could make DSA successful in the same way their competitors make airports similarly successful.

Yes, but this has been attempted and for whatever reason has not worked which is why DSA is in this predicament. I’ve always believed easyjet was the key to this but easyjet obviously do not share this viewpoint.

Note your point about TUI, but they had 17 years to base 12 aircraft and obviously didn’t see reason to do so.

When you say people don’t want to fly from LBA I think that’s a bit disingenuous, what you’re really saying is people from Doncaster, Hull, Grimsby don’t want to fly from LBA. As we know, the market in those towns and cities is smaller than the West Yorkshire one which is why you have to travel to LBA, MAN or EMA if you want to fly with Jet2 or Ryanair and of course easyjet who obviously do not see reason to go to the expense of serving Yorkshire (though I think eventually they will go in to LBA when there is space to do so).

I think a lot of faith was put on Wizzair U.K. being able to take on the challenge. Clearly the airport operator were confident as they built those extra jet bridges to cope with the increase in demand. This was done on the back of the agreement to base three aircraft, this was reduced to one, then none. The basing of three aircraft, if successful, would have taken DSA pretty much to the critical mass necessary to be profitable. I’ve no doubt TUI would have expanded a bit more too. Sadly it wasn’t to be.
