Even if Luton doesn't get a second terminal, don't expect traffic to reduce. If anything it will still increase due to better runway utilization with other runway improvements and the likes of Harrods having a bigger operation at Luton and Universal & Inflight needing possible new homes..

STN transformation project: latest
Just seen from the press release notes earlier last week that the new domestic arrivals baggage reclaim area has now opened and that work is underway to upgrade and modernise SAT 2 with a new interior, flooring, lighting and new/reconfigured gate rooms. Certainly sounds exciting and a long overdue upgrade. Anyone within STN have any photos of the works currently being carried out in SAT 2? Will be interesting to see what these shape up to look like going forwards.

Nice addition to the Stansted route map for winter 26/7.
That's now all 5 Canary Islands covered (that accept international flights).
Thanks to SeanM1997 on X for the info.

If I remember, it can be a challenging airport at times but I loved the uncommercial feel of the place. If via holidays hope they include some of the smaller boutique accommodation.

I guess it makes sense... Guage early sales from a north and south catchment first, then add the Midlands once expectations are met.

Recently they've seemed to be adding new destinations initially from MAN and STN, then adding BHX nearer the time, so certainly wouldn't rule it out.

With tonnes more aircraft arriving with TK over next 10 years you can expect more capacity throughout the network.

Welcome back Turkish Airlines!
Great to see TK resuming STN after a 16 year hiatus
I know that since they left STN in 2009, we have had their subsidiary, Anadolu Jet service SAW from Stansted, but nevertheless, its nice to see IST back on the map!

I'm just left wondering what, if anything, this may mean for the AJet service to SAW. It's heavily competed with Pegasus, and for many years used to operate with TK mainline from LGW before the bulk of SAW activity went to AJet and they shifted the service to STN. Now with TK mainline operating STN-IST, that would be capable of also picking up the VFR demand as a differentiator to Pegasus. I wouldn't be too surprised if AJet ended up back at LGW, or even LTN.

There's no indication AJet will be impacted as yet, just speculation on my part. I'm not sure what the capacity declaration for S26 will be as yet, if any change, but interesting that TK have managed to get some night-stoppers in there.
Becoming a decent little build-up of full-service carriers now with Emirates, Turkish and Royal Jordanian plus the limited Air Algerie, Royal Air Maroc, Lufthansa and of-course the weekend BA CityFlyer programmes. Be interesting to see what else happens in future. Qatar passenger ops I feel are only a matter of when rather than if. Lufthansa or one of their affiliates maybe doing something a little more regular? Icelandair I could see a strong contender in future as well. When they developed the additional hub bank in KEF they did look at STN but secured those slots in LGW (the one that departs LGW around 1530 or thereabouts). The Play route at it's prime was handling 60% of it's traffic as US originating passengers so I'm told, so there's a proven market there. The biomedical sciences in Cambridge would also be a good sell, for Boston connections in particular.

Indeed, this certainly happened recently with Samos. I suppose having enough accommodation to offer is also a consideration for the smaller, more niche destinations. I think that’s one of main reasons they haven’t started anything from Cape Verde yet, there just aren’t enough hotels at the moment.
I suspect they are a few years off launching anything so far away. They don't even do Egypt yet.

Perhaps this is true for EZY (UK) but EZS currently fly to SPX and HRG from GVA, and to HRG from BSL, so they can manage the distance using their A320s. Perhaps STN will follow suit once the current situation eases ....

Egypt and Tunisia will happen before any launch by Jet2 to Cape Verde IMHO.
