Air Blue

Now advertising for Terminal Assistant Manager on their site along with LGW.
Was originally Luton based so plans have changed.

It makes far more sense for Air Blue to use STN over LTN. But strange that they are also proposing LGW as well 🤔

Air Blue would be a very welcome addition to the ever growing intercontinental airline and route profile at STN 👍

I'm sure or certain even that IndiGo will eventually announce STN at some point. Once the airline has confirmed delivery dates for their initial A350s I have no doubt that they will announce STN as their choice of London airport.

MIAT Mongolian International Airlines have stated their intentions on several occasions over the last few months to eventually serve London. If indeed they do eventually announce London I can see them possibly serving STN over LGW.

Egyptair as far as I'm aware have previously been allocated slots at STN but they were never taken up. Perhaps Egyptair at some point could possibly use their subsidiary Air Cairo to operate any potential STN flights.

As others have already pointed out in previous posts. It's not a case of if, it's a case of when regarding Qatar Airways eventually announcing STN as their third London gateway.

STN in the next year or so could possibly see the following intercontinental airlines and routes.

Air Algérie...Algiers
Air Blue...Islamabad
Air Cairo...Cairo ???
Emirates...Dubai
IndiGo...Delhi, Navi Mumbai
Mongolian International Airlines...Ulaanbaatar ???
Royal Air Maroc...Casablanca
Royal Jordanian Airlines...Amman
Qatar Airways...Doha ???

And at a long shot.

Flynas...Jeddah, Medina ???
Jazeera Airways...Kuwait ???

Plus all of the numerous Turkish airline's and routes currently at STN

In the past STN has seen several intercontinental airlines serving the airport on a regular scheduled basis although not all simultaneously. Some of those airlines and routes only briefly served STN. Several have come and gone but those that still exist and previously served STN include the following.

Air India...Amristar, Mumbai
Air Asia X...Kuala Lumpur
Air Transat...Toronto
American Airlines...Chicago, New York JFK
Arkia...Tel Aviv
Cubana...Havana
El Al...New York JFK, Tel Aviv
Pakistan International...Islamabad
TACV...Praia
Tunisair...Tunis
Turkish Airlines...Istanbul
Turkmenistan Airlines...Ashgabat
United Airlines (Continental Airlines) Newark

I cant see all of the above airlines and destinations returning to STN but in some cases you never know ☺️

But nonetheless it's always good to see more variety of airlines and routes at STN 😊

Stansted is already served by Emirates and Royal Jordanian.

Also Air Algérie and RAM both already confirmed these routes are starting this summer season.

Air Cairo were due to start service to Luxor a while back, that didn’t happen. Air Senegal also announced service to Dakar (DSS) a few years back, I think Covid put a stop to that ever starting? They’d be a good fit if they were to launch a London service, although they’d probably get slots at Gatwick.

Well I never 😲

I really do appreciate the fact that you pointed that out 😂 🤣

Of course my list included current and potential airlines which was fairly obvious 🤔

You need to do a lot better next time 👍

I left out Air Senegal for a reason.

Although they had confirmed Dakar to STN in November 2019 with service to commence in March 2020 it obviously didn't occur because of the covid pandemic.

Air Senegal in the last few years have had several issues affecting the airline. They dropped Dakar to Lyon, Marseille, Nice and Milan concentrating on Paris CDG as their sole European gateway.

On that account I can't see Air Senegal announcing STN anytime soon. Especially when they can't even make their French regional destinations work.

Regarding Air Algérie and RAM I've already commented on that in my previous post 👍

I think it’s the fact that your post reads ‘could possibly see’ and then lists airlines already announced (or already operating; such as Emirates and Royal Jordanian) that’s confusing people, as these routes either already exist or have already been announced.

But yes I think if Air Senegal were to announce London it’ll be Gatwick sadly.

Atlantic westbound won’t happen either until there’s a serious shift in the dollar rate that benefits us Brits. I can’t see that happening anytime soon however. US originating traffic will always favour LHR. Even LGW struggles to attract this, leaving STN as it stands with next to zero chance.

KLM or Air France IMHO would be a great fit. AMS with EZY is down to just once daily most days of the week. AMS being flown multiple rotations by Air UK/KLM UK in years gone by. What has happened to this route to see such a down gauge?

That's the EasyJet effect sadly. They really should be covering AMS with at least 3 daily and probably CDG daily as well, which they could quite feasibly do without a STN base, but LGW and LTN is of course their focus for those.

Besides EasyJet the only other possible contender I could see would be Transavia for Amsterdam and Paris (Orly). Vueling at a stretch could be a contender for ORY.

KLM would be probably more likely than Air France, but I wouldn't bet on seeing either of them anytime soon.

This says to me, that you are including Emirates and Royal Jordanian to be possibly served in the future…the fact you now state you know this, was not in the slightest obvious in your original post!

Now you need to give your head a wobble!

For what its worth, I've got family connections with a senior person at Transavia France. On a recent visit, I suggested that a NCL-ORY service would make our lives easier. Sadly, the response was that the UK is not seen as a priority....

Surprised EK didn't upgrade the EK67 to a A380 like they did at BHX due to the LHR issues.
Perhaps they don't have spare A380s to throw at routes at short notice.

What period of time did Untied/Continental serve Newark. I don't recall that.

Continental Airlines started a daily B757 EWR-STN service on 01 May 2001

It didn't last very long as it was pulled shortly after 9/11 and never returned.

Here is a link I just found online for your perusal 👍

STN is not A380 compatible. Yes it's physically possible to operate one and has appeared in the past on charters, but not on a routine scheduled service such as EK. To park an A380 at STN would take out another Code C aircraft stand and adjacent gate, which might be manageable at this time of year, but you also have to factor in check-in, gate space and air bridge compatibility which are not geared up for an A380. So to just throw one in the mix with less than a day's warning is not really feasible. BHX and LGW of course are already fully A380 capable so, subject to aircraft availability, it's relatively straightforward to upguage those.

Nice to see something new and Greek on offer next year from Stansted. Credit to SeanM1997 on X. Just wish that Tui could be a little more adventurous with their Greek offering (or their Stansted programme in general).

Good stuff Jet2 👍🏻

He is slightly incorrect - it's actually, weekly from 7 May on Thursdays, and then twice weekly from 6 July through to the end of the season:

Mondays:
STN 0800 - SMI 1355
SMI 1445 - STN 1650
