Afternoon all

Noticed something recently on the STN wiki page (whether true or not, I'm unsure). Somebody has made some slight alterations to the gate numbering. To my knowledge, the airport has only ever used a single number system (i.e. gates 1-93). On the wiki page, it now reads as gates A1-19 [satellite 1], B20-39 [satellite 2, upper level], D81-88 [satellite 2, lower level], C40-59 [satellite 3], E90-93 [APV building]. Again, I'm unsure if this is correct/will be put into place once the terminal extension is completed? (If that is the case, I wasn't aware that MAG are planning on segregating gate areas by letter].

I also noticed the AJet flight to Istanbul today departing from SAT 2 (gate 37). I thought only FR/Lauda, EZY and Play uses SAT 2- Have AJet relocated over from SAT 1?

RE. Terminal extension- I note the video and info page released by Pascall and Watson a while back, but still nothing seems to have been updated in way of design and time frames on the STN airport website. Has any work related to the project actually commenced yet, and if not, does anyone know if anything is upcoming, seeing as planning permission was secured for the TTP last year? I'm also still hopeful that some attention will be given towards rejuvenating some of the satellite and gate areas (and not just the main terminal).

Stn stands

AJET are handled by Sky tanking which predominantly uses sat2 stands.

Regards.

I didn’t realise that. Prior to rebranding, I do remember seeing many of the AnadoluJet flights using satellite 1, never saw them on SAT 2.

With many of the air bridges on SAT 2 not having been in use for years, do AJet use any of those that are still serviceable? IIRC, I think the ones that still work are for gates 30/88, 32/87 and 37?

STN transformation programme

Was doing a bit of digging around earlier to see what further info (if any) is currently available re. the progress of the terminal transformation project, and came across this prospectus from MAG. It confirms much of what is already known in terms of the terminal extension (interestingly, the decommissioning of the TTS is planned to be brought forward to next year). However, what is interesting, and puzzling at the same time, is that the original arrivals building proposal (which seemingly the terminal extension project is replacing) will in fact still be going ahead as part of 'phase 2' of the transformation at STN (see notes on page 68). It is puzzling since I thought arrivals and immigration is planned to be relocated to the lower level once the terminal extension project is completed, so what is the purpose of MAG still thinking of wanting a dedicated arrivals building? Surely money could be better spent on a future satellite 4, revamping of satellites 2-3 and other existing areas?

Jet2 and STN

Re. Jet2's base at STN, is it at 16 aircraft based now? Even at the height of EZY's operation at STN, I think Jet2 are now larger than they ever were in terms of based a/c at Stansted. Does anyone know, or think it likely that we will see their new A320/21-NEOs at Stansted at some point? They have done extremely well since they first opened their base in 2017, and I hope that we will continue to see them grow and expand at STN. I'm sure we will see a 20 aircraft based operation at some stage.

Once the terminal extension/transformation is complete, I wonder who would be next to likely have a look at coming to Stansted?

National Express service changes from 12th July to add up to 25% more capacity:

https://www.bishopsstortfordindepend...rport-9370720/

Overall very positive changes and makes the coach far more competitive with rail. Daytime and overnight connectivity also vastly improved, especially from more central and southern areas of the capital and a new 45 mins journey from Tottenham Hale every 30 mins, including overnight. This should help enormously during times of Stansted Express rail disruption and hopefully improve turn-up profiles and reduce the amount of overnight sleepers in the Terminal for first wave departures.

Passed through STN on Wednesday, and have noticed a few improvements - the newly installed security scanners are making a big difference in reducing queuing times, and I was through in just under 2 minutes. Certainly much better than the current scanners where previously passengers needed to declare their sealed liquids etc and take their laptops and iPads out of their hand luggage. Looking forward to seeing all of the new scanners installed soon; does anyone know when this is likely to be completed? There doesn't seem to be further progress made on the 'shoreline' check in configuration (beyond the current zone 500).

In the departure lounge- MAG have installed new toilets in place of the old ones which are a lot better, more modern and cleanliness was definitely much improved.

When departing from satellite 2, there is some scaffolding of sorts towards the end with some works being carried out, does anyone know what these are? Inside, the long-standing Wetherspoons Express that once occupied the space where the KLM UK lounge was has now been removed in favour of a new cafe set up. WH Smith is also no longer there, having been replaced by a new outlet selling newspapers etc.

Regarding terminal extension works- MAG have just released their financial and investor reports and presentations. They mention that the designs for the extension have still not been finalised, with the process for this still ongoing. I'm a bit surprised that designs still have not been confirmed (beyond what is available on Pascall & Watson's project webpage for the STN transformation project) considering that MAG first announced their intention to extend the terminal this time last year, and planning application approval for this was granted in November.

EK lounge

Anyone have any update on the EK lounge @ STN heard this was due open this summer.

Also I know EK we’re looking to grow their STN frequencies but assumed this was of the PAX variety, seen on the ACL slot site EK requested and received slot requests for DWC - STN operation so assuming this will be EK cargo ?

Maersk

I've noticed on flightradar recently that there has been regular flights into STN by Maersk Air Boeing 767s. Flights have been originating from Leipzieg.

Are these regular scheduled cargo flights by any chance?

If they are regular scheduled cargo flights it's great to see Maersk back at STN albeit in a cargo capacity.

Thanks for the quick response back it's appreciated.

In fact out of anyone on here I half expected that you out of all people would personally answer my question.

It's much appreciated and if you have further information regarding cargo flights into STN could you possibly post them on here as cargo seems to get overlooked in this thread.

Regards

You can definitely see the (what I assume is to be) the EK lounge being kitted out in Sat 1. I’m guessing it’ll be open soon.

FlyOne

FlyOne appear to be increasing their RMO-STN route slightly from mid-September from 3 to 4x weekly with a change of dates/times. Their RMO-LTN route appears to come down from daily to 3x weekly. Overall a capacity cut but an interesting shift towards STN where they compete with HiSky.

For W24/5 it remains daily to LTN and just 2x weekly STN in their booking engine. I wonder if that may change, or if this is just a temporary switch for some reason.
