Well done FR and long overdue…..could we see PMI & MLA joining soon ? Hopefully FAO will return for S24 (despite the issues in Portugal).

Great to see TFS back and also ALC.

Lets hope this positive news continues…

Although good to see growth at CWL, those really are the most god-awful flight times on CWL-ALC.

Great news, agreed the ALC flights are rubbish times but have to take what we can now. Wonder how that will affect VY.

FR TFS is a very welcome return, hopefully will go back to 2x weekly eventually.

We still desperately need some more EU city routes. Hopefully BUZZ, Lauda or whatever its called these days can look into it. Though I do ho back to my point previously about not over trusting FR as they can chop routes with little warning.

Great news! Due to FR pulling capacity from Germany I wonder if we will see routes else where too? I’m not talking a base yet, I think that’s a while off, but wonder if they’ll divert those aircraft to other bases in the canaries / Cyprus / Greece / Italy who could operate to CWL All solid markets at the right price.

FR FAO flights

Faro now loaded with FR. 2 x weekly on a Friday and Sunday with a random Tuesday departure on 26/03/24. Regular flights from 31/03/24 until 25/10/24 👍

Could this be an extra flight for the school holidays, as that is the week before Easter?

Mark Drakeford

Obviously I have no insider information on the amount of strings that Mr Drakeford pulled with regards to CWL but wonder if his resignation will loosen the strings at CWL and allow them more autonomy to develop? Maybe his successor will be more pro transport

If it is Lee Waters then pray !

Hopefully a left field candidate will emerge from the regular incumbents in the frame for the sake of the south Wales economy.

Mismanagement has led to Cardiff missing every single chance it has had to become a success. It missed easyJet, Ryanair as a big hub, Jet 2, even TUI does more from Bristol. Cardiff has no future unless it becomes revolutionary and decides to not charge airlines for using the airport and bank on making money through passengers spending in the terminal (which is a big risk).

At the point I'm 50:50 between keeping it as an airport and selling the land to build houses.

Looking at the latest (Oct) figures for domestic routes. Belfast City was increasing nicely even with the addition of Ryanair competing for passengers. So now that Ryanair have stopped the route this should continue to do well. It would be nice to see the frequency increase. The Edinburgh figures aren’t doing so well so I can’t see Logan adding a Glasgow route anytime soon.

Cannot understand the EDI figures, for years there used to be between 2-3 flights a day with BA, BMI baby and BE with healthy passenger loads and was one of the most popular CWL routes. I’m guessing x1 a day with LM does not really tap into the business market at all. Would be more beneficial to have x2 a day Monday to Friday for this market, similar to EXT & SOU. I also read that the ATR72 is replacing the EM4 shortly on the route.

The BHD-CWL-BHD route does appear to be be popular, would this ever go x2 daily eventually? Wonder if EI would also look at the introduction of DUB ?

The problem with LM EDI is that it's no good for business pax, which I'd imagine is the key market for that route. Also prices are usually significantly more than EZY ex BRS, With better frequency. I believe most carriers previously were at least 2x, some even 3x daily. An extra frequency is definitely needed, but that probably won't happen until this one picks up. Its a catch 22.

Time for Cardiff Airport apologists to blame KLM's announcement on bad timing or not enough frequency for business travel rather than blame the airport management and long-term strategy.

Surely things need to change for CWL, the daily movements are shocking, the choice of destinations shocking and now the frequency for a key airline such as KLM is being reduced. Also appears that the ORY link is ending at end of March too with Eastern.

Even smaller airports such as NWI & MME remain at x3 a day with KLM !!!

We used to have x4 flights a day to AMS, x2 to BRU, x3 to CDG yes with smaller aircraft but we had the frequency and the choice was there for the traveller and business men.

The choice of domestic destinations is also pretty naff, no GLA, no NCL, no JER and just 6 flights a week to EDI !!! Only BHD seems to survive and cope.

As much as it hurts me in saying this as a staunch supporter for years but what future is there for CWL ???

Wales needs its airport and should not be left to fail without a fight. The Government should have invested all those millions into the creation of a small Welsh airline to reconnect Wales to the U.K. and regional Europe (not talking massive here before any sarky comments)

What is being done by the Government - is this poor management that needs sorting ?

Interesting you mention NWI which is my local so to speak, the KLM are in fact 4x daily during the Summer. We however have a lot of pax using it from the oil and gas and more so now the renewable sectors ie the wind farms etc. Also we have a lot of Foreign students from Asia coming to our university. Just wondering if Cardiff has anything like that that supports those KLM services? as I'm not local to the area to know.

Also you say smaller, but alarminly Cardiff is now heading towards the size of NWI, with the loss of its flights etc which it really shouldn't be. Such a shame

KLM will be reducing flights at CWL more than at other airports because they are making less money there. Maybe if more Welsh people supported the flights from the airport, it might encourage more flights?
