Ryanair have extended FAO to year round (or at least for this winter)….2 flights a week to continue.
Plus wait for it…….it’s been announced & advertised on the CWL webpage too !!!!
Let’s hope Ryanair increase their CWL presence going forward.

Loganair appear to have had a fall out with NQY airport and their press release below refers to focussing more on other regional airports and CWL is one they mention along with SOU & EXT.
I wonder if this means double daily for EDI and/or a NCL or GLA flight ??
“In the meantime, we’ll be directing our efforts towards other UK regional airports such as Southampton, Exeter and Cardiff, where airport managements recognise and appreciate the enormous value that year-round, sustainable regional air services can bring to their communities and local economies.”

Putting it in Cardiff means it can cover the SW approaches, Cornwall etc and also the fields in the East Irish Sea and off S Ireland

Milford Haven used to be home to several oil refineries so possibly back then CWL was strategically smart. Nowadays I believe it is principally a LNG terminal.

Shame about the ORY flights but having an A321 on the route was always going to be ambitious. Demand for Paris is there I feel (aug stats show around 3.5k passengers, no idea of yield though) so smaller a/c with higher frequency should work. Just not sure who would operate it. AF wouldn’t I doubt. Not with KL via AMS going back to 3 daily.

The numbers were improving. Average passenger load for August was 151, which in an A320 would be decent. The fares have always been cheap, so very unlikely any money was made during it's time. It has to have been a slot sitter otherwise they would've dropped it ages ago. A321 simply too big for this route.

Shame CWL cannot entice Flybe back as CDG & also JER would be perfect for them.

The leisure and business / connecting markets could be viewed as different. Vueling probably failed on the ORY route because too may people were paying too little, and not enough PAX booking at short notice and paying a premium for doing so. CDG may well work better from a connecting standpoint, and is better known in UK for being the principal Paris airport so better for the business market too. Frequency then becomes key, as does an interline agreement with AF. Whether CWL could have the demand to offer multi-daily services, and whether AF would offer code share when the AF/KL group are seemingly concentrating their efforts on the AMS hub from CWL are another questions.
KLM will never generate mass travel from their UK hubs because of the price they charge. They have been the main operator at Norwich for decades because of the exploitation of the oil and gas industry but very few normal passengers fly from the airport. Back in my day in the 1980’s Dan Air were the main operator at Cardiff running HS746 turbo props but supported by the oil and gas industry later to be replaced by Loganair. The annual bucket and spade brigade are not enough to support an airport and sadly Cardiff has never done a deal with Ryanair and Easyjet which would ramp up their traffic. I think EGFF has to take a new look at where their business is coming from and transatlantic airfreight is an opportunity.

CWL to NYC
Just browsing the aer lingus website and see that NYC is listed (no airport specified). When doing a search it says dates for this route are not yet loaded and will be available soon. Can’t seem to think where you’d connect as they only fly to BHD and have VY to Alicante as destinations. Can’t see them launching direct surely? Any info?
