The average airfares on the new routes are going to be much higher than average airfares Flybe offered. If Flybe couldn't make it work on those lower fares - why does Loganair believe it can with pretty much identical capacity???

The ATR-72 is a slow aircraft compared to the Q400 - it becomes very noticeable on a sector like SOU to GLA or EDI. I would've preferred to see the Saab 2000 on it (yes I know it's being retired).

Sharklet - heavens above, every thread has predictions of doom and things that won't work, whether it's airports or airlines. Should the industry just give up now?
From what I can see, they're offering a lot less capacity than Flybe did. Flybe had 6 Q400s a day on SOU-EDI and Logan will have 4 ATR72s a day. It's a 40% capacity cut.

Loganair axing Wick to Edinburgh from end of March.
When I lived there they flew WIC to KOI, LSI, EDI, INV and GLA. Gill had up to three flights a day to ABZ and NCL.
Now will be once daily, on Eastern to ABZ... Who now charge same fare each way (from £99) despite WIC being exempt from APD.

Indeed the rise of destinations from INV has killed WIC can't see it surviving on one flight a day especially at Easterns prices and HIAL won't care as long as INV is doing okay. Loganair have operated there for 44 years. Shame for the county which will now be even more remote !

I do find it amusing/frustrating on Facebook etc. where people are calling Loganair ridiculous and that they should be ashamed of themselves. Last I looked, Loganair is a private corporate entity and not a charity! Last thing we want/need is about Flybe or Thomas Cook.

Heartbroken to have lost my Loganair Airline assessment in Nov last year. Over expansion. Now they just want ATR rated crews or ex-Flybe crews.

As per the Loganair website:
All international flights (incl. Ireland) suspended. Reduction on most routes to/from England. Some new ex Flybe routes postponed. Plus EXT/CWL-EDI combined service.
- Barra: No change.
- Benbecula: Two Glasgow flights per day shared with Stornoway on a circular basis.
- Campbeltown: Twice-daily Glasgow Saab 340 flights shared with Islay.
- Islay: Twice-daily Glasgow Saab 340 flights shared with Campbeltown.
- Kirkwall: Inter-isles services unaffected. Two daily Edinburgh services continuing to Shetland. Two daily services to/from Aberdeen. Glasgow and Inverness services suspended until 31 May.
- Stornoway: Two daily jet services to and from Glasgow shared with Benbecula. Two daily Saab 340 flights from Inverness. Edinburgh services suspended until 31 May.
- Sumburgh: Two daily services to/from Edinburgh via Kirkwall. Two daily services to/from Aberdeen. Glasgow and Inverness services suspended until 31 May. Launch of seasonal Bergen services delayed until mid-June.
- Tiree: No change.

The way BMIR was packaged and shafted. Their rapid expansion with no real strategy recently. Their 'new' aged aircraft.
The whole airline lacks direction and thought out strategy. It's another basketcase waiting to fail and may add credence to Gov propping Flybe's re-emergence rather than bailing out a bunch of regionals.

Loganair are not in the same basket as Flybe. They deserve more support, at least just for their lifeline routes to the islands. They can ground everything else until such time as it is appropriate to bring them back. The people on these islands are already facing reduced ferry services too so there needs to be some way of them retaining some essential air links to bring them what they need and take them to the mainland if needed.
When Flybe collapsed Loganair took on some of their routes which they decided would work. They didn't start doing silly things like flying dash 8s into LHR and try to take on major carriers or try and model themselves as a kind of hybrid high fares, no frills airline either. Business orientated, PSO and secondary city routes at a reasonable frequency are what Loganair stepped in to take over. No one could have predicted this virus and how it would damage aviation, so Loganair are deserving of some help, in my opinion anyway.
