It's been confirmed by dept for transport and Richard Leese that the HS2 station at MAN is still planned and not about to be scrapped.
Whether that's PR bluster remains to be seen, but, that's where the land lies at the moment.

Wow. Impressive numbers. Most UK regionals wouldn't mind 1.9 million passengers for the whole year, let alone an off-peak month in Manchester that doesn't include Easter.
11% growth on an already large number is a lot of extra passengers.

Reading on another forum that is all rubbish by the paper
Ha ha OK re Leeds App

Yes, you're right. There have been fervent denials by various parties of the Sunday Times article, but as GavinC has suggested, it may be the route that is reviewed which could render the airport station irrelevant.
TURIN
The comments were NOT political.
The current council make up are Labour? In my view they have improved Manchester as a City and its prosperity directly impacts the airport! A new mayor will have equal influence in certain areas, it is therefore equally legitimate to investigate the track record of a new incumbent. If you want an example see Boris and his claims of a new airport for London.
The appointment of a new mayor matters!

However, playground, hamster wheel type abuse of any particular politician belongs in Jetblast, not here.

It is unwise to dismiss Bagso's concerns on this matter as Jetblast fodder. Much of the roadmap for MAN's development over coming years has focused on the airport playing a key role in the evolution of the 'Northern Powerhouse' initiative. However, when [in Feb 2015] a tranche of new powers were announced devolving certain NHS and social care responsibilities to Manchester, Burnham in particular was widely reported to be "furious" with MCC officials. He reportedly raged at the [pragmatic] Labour Party hierarchy at Manchester City Council for working closely with Conservative Chancellor George Osborne, and indicated that if he became health secretary (this was pre-election) he would block such agreements. Subsequently, he penned an article in the MEN which came across as a damage-limitation exercise, praising GM leaders as "always more interested in getting the best deal for our people than playing party politics." Is that true of himself as well?
It would be easy for an outside observer to suspect that Mr Burnham may prefer party political grandstanding to setting aside differences by working constructively with all parties for the betterment of Greater Manchester. Given the very public spat, it is open to question whether he could now work harmoniously with Sir Richard Leese and co, let alone the Conservatives at Westminster. If Burnham sees the mayoralty as an opportunity to thwart Osborne politically rather than as a platform to secure the best deal for Greater Manchester, then Manchester Airport's prospects will pay a price as the NPH concept withers on the vine.
Note that this is not a party-political observation. Sir Richard Leese is one of a number of Labour figures who would have made an outstanding candidate for the post. Unfortunately, he has confirmed that he will not run.
Voting patterns in Greater Manchester are such that the real battle will be the choice of Labour nominee for the role of Mayor. The actual election beyond that is likely to be a formality. So it is of particular importance to MAN that Labour select a mayoral candidate who will adopt a pragmatic approach to working with all parties towards building a successful NPH with the airport at its heart. Some (but not all) Labour candidates will tick that box.

Aegean Airlines increasing Manchester to 3 weekly from 1st Nov and then 4 weekly from 26th December. Quite a surprise given the usual reduction of ops in the winter.
A3638 ATH 0835 MAN 1040
A3639 MAN 1130 ATH 1710
Tue/Thu/Sat until 26/12 and then a Monday flight added.
Great news.

2 weekly is still an increase considering Aegean did have a 3 month break for the winter just gone.

This thread has really become more about a soapbox for the same people to rehash old arguments yet again, which is sad.
In other news, saw last week Singapore are now using the A350 into AMS, right-sizing what was never really a B77W route. Any idea when MAN is getting one and de-coupling from MUC?
