Hainan

Just recived a email response which put a smug smile across my face from our friends at hainan.
"Hi Sarah, we continue to discuss with manchester of starting the direct service, please keep tuned and stay interested in our website for the next week or so" .
Thoughts on this guys?

Icelandair

Looks like today's Icelandair flight has gone tech, they are sending a replacement aircraft from Reykjavik but all flights from there delayed until 18:30 local time tonight, looks like a long delay for the pax

Hainan Airlines Website

Well not sure what this is all about but

https://www.hainanairlines.com/OEC/G...AMPAIGN_ID=263

A large banner is appearing every 30 seconds on the landing home page suggesting

"special prices on return flights from Beijing to Manchester And London"

Even as a connector via Brussels it seems a "hard sell" ....

As Hainan have applied for both LHR & MAN, why would they promote the transfer deals if they were about to announce direct services? Is this a second best option because direct flights may not now materialise, or is it an early salvo to promote awareness of Hainan Airlines with the public/travel industry for when flights are introduced?

Not sure what to make of it either.

Very drole CC. Enjoy the charters. We'll just make do with the scheduled services which are likely more beneficial for 2 way travel between "not London" and Beijing.

Well the MIPIM Conference starts next Tuesday....

There's an event focusing on Airport City which of course already has massive Chinese investment. But that is on Wednesday...

Since the Hainan BHX announcement this thread has been a brillant read for us BHX entusiasts.

But it pains me to say this but the BHX is a Charter and should not have any influence on what Hainan may or may not do from MAN in respect of a schedule.

People at MAN must really calm down and put things into perpespective.

My belief is that any new scheduled or charter flights into the regions especially from BHX or MAN should be well received, there is life outside of London

BHX5DME you are only repeating what I said two days ago on post #1153. As an ex pat Mancunian I think that proves yet again, "what Manchester does today, the world does tomorrow and Birmingham the day after"

I'm a massive supporter of MAN, but I am also a massive supporter of all regional flying. Yes, I'd prefer a scheduled Hainan at MAN, but I be nearly as chuffed if it was at BHX.

The thing is life does exist outside London, and routes like this, and others, prove that, and hopefully all regional airports will prosper.

For far to long have regional fliers had routes denied, or even taken off them, as it did not fit in with airlines, or hubs, ideal.

I welcome a change to that ideal and a fairer spread of services nation wide.

Is it possible with pax loads so high on cx flights to hong kong, hainan have decided to scrap 4 weekly and go daily instead, hence the with drawing of the slots. Maybe they see a lot of potential in the route and want to get one step a head of cx before they go daily. Just a thought. Or possibly hainan are scared off by cx and will instead go 2 weekly. I think the man-pek route is a go-er just depends what frequency hainan are planning. With all the new competition for long haul at man, more airlines want a piece if the pie. Tax

I agree....reading all this negative stuff is bad, surely MAN and BHX should work together against LHR....all regional long haul flights should be welcomed by both, and they are the only 2 regional airports that will ever attract long haul scheduled services, runway, infrastructure and connectivity a good reason alone, I think there is room for both to expand.

It's not contradicting the "airlines, or hubs, ideal". Any routes between Manchester and Chinese cities is exactly the "hub ideal". Depending on the route/carrier the hubs are at Hong Kong (Cathay), Canton (China Southern), Shanghai (China Eastern), Peking (Air China, Hainan Airlines), etc.. In this case, Ringway is the spoke.

Clearly there is, but no one should be working against anyone, THAT is negative. MAN v BHX: usually a win for MAN; MAN + BHX v LHR: always a win for LHR. What is needed is routes to LHR and MAN and BHX.

But this will only be possible where carriers can make money. So come on you Brummies and you Mancs, particularly those of you in premium classes, USE THE LONG HAUL SERVICES PROVIDED. Make sure they are profitable and more will come.

I hope that MAN secures the Beijing service and additionally I hope that they don't decide to go head to head with CX on timings. The optimum schedule due to the 7-8 hour time gap should be 14.00-17.30 PEK-MAN and 20.00-14.30 MAN-PEK, much less jetlag and using MAN terminals at a quieter time of the day, less stress

It's not just BHX that MAN are competing against for a PEK service, EDI are also said to be in negotiations. Not sure which airline though

We are using the Premium class's that partly why EK put on the extra 380. The Business class cabin on the EK flights down to the Gulf is very rarely quiet and I do this route about twice a month. I believe the other mid east carriers are also well patronised at the front end. It is only anecdotal as I do not have the figures to back this up but by my feeling through observation, is that Manchester is doing fine with regards the front end loads.

Regards
Mr Mac
