In a similar vein, do any insiders know why T3 security at MAN always has huge queues even at off peak times? One thing Heathrow Airport has really tackled is this area, it is by no means uncommon to have ZERO people in front of you in T5 now mid morning whilst at the same time in Manchester it takes a good 20 minutes (accompanied by much shouting which is hardly conducive to reducing stress of customers or air crew one would think). If your bag is selected for secondary search it looks as though you can kiss goodbye to any time spent in the shops or lounges so must cost them money?
I'm going through T5 on at least a twice weekly basis currently.
Never have I got through in 20 minutes.
Worst example was just this week.
Arrived from SIN. Joined the Border Control queue for domestic connections, which had two officers on duty; 82 minutes from back of queue to being processed.
A further 20 minutes to go through the photo check.
Hit the "Fast Track" escalator up to security which was queueing almost back to the top of the escalator. Over 40 minutes to get through.
Total time: 2 hours 22 minutes.
I honestly don't know how anyone can compare T5 to MAN's T3. You can clear T3 security in seconds at its quietest.

160to4 - I must be hugely lucky then and you very unlucky. I fly through T5 every week and T3 MAN about twice a month. I can not recall the last time I queued at T5 (albeit as a fast track domestic point to point passenger so I do not dispute your connections experience which sounds terrible) and I have never not queued at T3, whether it be weekday, weekend, morning, midday or late evening. To be honest, I can cope with the queues, its the shouting that I could do without. I am making the journey next week so will take some measurements.

In defence of T3 Manchester
Flew out last Sunday 6th March on AA to PHL, no queue at check-in, at security no queue, in fact they even had fast track closed down it was so quiet. This was at 8:30am. Arrival from PHL the previous Saturday l was off the aircraft through customs and in the car hire bus to the village 35 mins after "on chocks".
Vueling will operate two new UK routes from this summer
Announced in Tenerife courtesy of Janet Anscombe
The Tenerife Cabildo says that from this summer there will be two new routes to TFS Reina Sofía from Manchester and Birmingham operated by Spanish airline Vueling with a code shared by British Airways. Tenerife president Carlos Alonso said that Turismo was constantly seeking to improve connectivity with the island, and is also reaching further agreements at the ITB travel fair in Berlin with Air Europa, Thomas Cook, TUI, among others.
The new Birmingham route will operate Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 June, and Manchester’s on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 July. (The Manchester route will be weekly until halfway through September). Cabildo tourism councillor Alberto Bernabé said that the two new routes announced today were of great importance with British tourists being the main holiday market here, with over 1.7m holidaymakers from the UK staying in tourist establishments in Tenerife last year, a growth from 2014 of 5%.

News has reached the offices of the NorthernPowerhouse that the Government is investing heavily, very, very heavily in transport infastructure in the South East ( see LGW thread £6.5bn and Stansted £27bn) And rightly so.
It can therefore only be a matter of time before Manchester Airport gets a good slug of Whitehall cash.
Well that's if there is any left .... only joking !
About £50m is usually the going rate for investment up North and whilst this is a wee bit modest its still substantial for the North West.
What would this buy and what would supporters of Manchester Airport most like to see in terms of improvements to rail connectivity?
Personally I would like to see an additional track to Airport City South might be beneficial re freight given investment by DHL And Amazon although unlike crossrail2 and Thameslink I appreciate that kind of improvement would only benefit Manchester rather than be in the national interest.

A 2nd runway that is far enough from the 1st to allow proper duel runway opps and that did not involve crossing the landing runway to reach would be nice
DHL will never have a requirement to move freight by rail to and from Manchester airport.
At Leipzig the parcels loading sidings were full of new commuter trains waiting for the City rail tunnel to open just before I left and were not used to load boxes on to trains.

No I agree Council Van cargo rail to cargo terminal is a non starter
as soon as sorted goes out on vans to a very diverse area
Bagso
What is all the money for Stansted to do as it already has a motorway
to the door, is the rail that bad?

Do Amazon pay any significant corporation tax in the UK or do they siphon off most of their UK profits to Ireland or Luxembourg? Should we do anything to help an organization that contributes so little to our society? (I don't buy the 'we bring employment' routine: if they didn't do it then someone else would meet the need).

AMERICAN AIRLINES
I appreciate this is not new 'news' but it's still good to read about it. And 30 years since the ORD route started, initially under a temporary licence.
