They can't that's why there are (and have been) a lot of cancellations, the 73 went out the other day with 60, yes 60 pax on board!
Ouch !!

Actually our return flight has been canx already and we've been shifted to the earlier flight. The seat map for the outbound shows its not even half full either.

I am liking Y class on the upper deck of the MAN's VS 744's though, secured seats up there in both directions just in case the main deck is hammered with screaming kids

Dec and Jan are the quietest times of the year (except over Christmas) hence why we're going in Jan, so maybe a lull is to be expected.

Maybe they should drop to 5 weekly during the low months as flying 60 on a 744 can't be remotely profitable.

VS must know what they are doing though, and they must see a need for 2 daily flights during the summer months.

Thomas Cook Airlines? starts first ever turn-of-year peaks push - www.travelweekly.co.uk

Looks like a large push by Thomas Cook re long haul at Manchester.

"The two-part campaign kicks off with advertising in regional press, radio, digital shopping centre and commuter-area outdoor posters in the Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds areas focused on long haul routes to the US from Manchester airport."

Good to hear. Let's hope JFK & MIA sell well creating extra business (i.e. without hurting legacy carriers). Still no mention of LAX which appears in the main list of destinations. Any further news on that possibility?

Perhaps, but not necessarily because forward bookings aren't a good as they might have hoped? The long haul programme does look a tad ambitious.

I'd be more surprised if TCX didn't have a media and advertising splurge now, considering the money they must be investing in the new routes, additional A330 etc. There's been many a time I've read criticism on here about lack of publicity by the airlines when they start new routes...

The timing is perfect as well. Immediately post-Christmas is traditionally when folk start thinking about their summer holidays, and when companies like Thomas Cook and Thomsons start their big push to bring in summer sales. Monarch longhaul is no more, but then Virgin and Thomsons are also competing to fill the void. Judging by this year's Xmas retail sales perhaps people are starting to loosen the purse strings a little ? No doubt falling fuel prices and the easing of APD on families will all help. There's also the general election - always a good reason to leave the country if you can !!

It will be interesting to see how next year all pans out. Good on Thomas Cooks for having a go, best of luck to them and to all the airlines at MAN for 2015.

Thomas Cook 2015:

Some more gradual expansion from Thomas Cook:

New flights:

Larnaca 3-4 weekly - new MON
Ibiza 2-3 weekly - new SUN
Lanzarote 3-4 weekly - new TUE
Menorca 4-5 weekly - new TUE
Palma 6-7 weekly - new WED
Tenerife 3-4 weekly - new THU
Sharm el Sheik 3-4 weekly - new FRI
Hurghada 2-3 weekly - new SAT
Orlando 7-8 weekly - 2 TUE

Los Angeles, Verona, Seville all still listed as destinations.

Guessing some of these may be Condor operated eventually as planned 2 753 to be based for 2015.

LGW "arrogance"

And yes it has a lot to do with the Manchester thread when claims of this nature are made ,sorry I may be alone but I utterley begrudge this total arrogance held by LGW, dare I say their pomposity to suggest there are only two World class airports in UK.
Those "cheeky scamps" at LGW have started distributing "Gatwick obviously" leaflets under the Heathrow flightpath. Hope LHR retaliates.

What may be of more interest to readers of the Ringway thread, and Bagso, you in particular, is a line in it:

"Expanding Gatwick would mean that London and the South East would have two world class airports........"

Have some at LGW been reading this thread? Have they decided to no longer alienate the rest of the UK?

Somebody appears to have has a word.

"Somebody appears to have has a word".

Funnily enough if you approach MAN, BHX, GLA. EDI, NCL indicating its been suggested they offer pretty poor fayre according to LGW propoganda it might just get them bristling...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By way of balance and in the interests of impartiality I shall counter my comment about a World Class Airport just before Christmas with reference to this evenings M E N

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co....ow-ice-8349571

"As an airport we have over 40 pieces of snow clearing equipment and have invested over £2m in upgrading this fleet in recent years."

True but sadly a workable solution is only as good as the lowest commmon denominator in the whole supply chain is it not, in this case its the old ......

"you pay buttons so what do you expect"

....and as ever the airport is very firmly in the crosshairs !

The investment in snow clearing ££££££wonga is recent, as if you recall, winter snow was a thing of the past and the airport operators were terribly surprised at the gridlock that closed them for days......

Would not say over £2m in upgrading in recent years is that much. In 2011 alone LGW invested over four time as much in snow removal equipment.

All the TCX flights are based on the timetable from the link below. Some have just been added this week and have not any times loaded yet.

Depends what you have already got....and of course the size of areas you have to clear... But true to form KGL you enjoy having a pop at MAN, so not surprised you should bring this up..

As far as I'm aware the Airport Company initiated the relevant bit of their Winter Ops plan some hours before the snow arrived and the runways, taxiways and aprons remained serviceable - there wasn't much snow anyway. There were also a few diversions from LPL and LBA.

However it all went pear shaped due to the lack of de-icing resources from the handling agents as the airport have been keen to point out in the MEN article. But as Bagso says, the airport is firmly in the cross-hairs as most passengers don't know who is responsible for what and frankly don't care either - nor should they. They just want an efficient operation.

The opening up of completely open competition in handling has led to cut-throat prices and produced "a race to the bottom". Things usually work OK until the normal schedule suffers disruption when the options for service recovery are very limited. And as a result the passengers and the reputation of the airport suffers. But if people demand low fares, the HA have to keep their prices low and so the vicious spiral continues.

Not seen this bit of the TCX timetable before but similar to something that comes up on the main one. However I wouldn't rely on it because I have found it to be inaccurate before. It certainly doesn't fit with the full timetable for some destinations. I guess we will have to wait and see because as you say what are they going to use the 2 DE753s for because at the moment not even one is fully occupied.

I know what you mean with the TCX timetable. The new flights don't fit in the timetable but for example the Monday Larnaca rotation could tie in with a Condor aircraft as Condor fly to Larnaca from their bases on a Monday (a bit like the Fuertaventura and Palma rotations for last summer). And the times are constantly changing for example up till last week TCX2416 Thursday Kos departed 14:20, now departs 09:30am. Long haul slowly being added to as Sunday and Friday require 5 A330's with a new Orlando flight on Friday. Will have to wait and see whether Los Angeles happens as G-TCXB (the new A330) so far has no routes to do as only 5-6 A330 required for current schedule, will have 7 for next summer including the usual TCX Scandinavia A332 they lease.
