UK airports I am OK with but some of those small European airports listed I am not. If people don't want to name them properly here to save a few taps of the keyboard then that is fine but I won't be searching the internet for the answers.
VIE LYS MXP BUD PRG very small aren't they. That's Vienna Lyon, Milan Malpensa, Budapest and Prague

Since you're keen to return to Southend, this article might assist you:

Who knows? Southend may become a destination in its own right for air travellers........

The story in the Echo is hogwash. The training academy is based at Luton and everyday for years I see streams of people heading to it from the airport hotels. Most of them are replacing those that have left easyjet.

As I said when I posted the link, the Echo has gone way over the top on jobs for Southend. The Echo seems to have trouble in reporting anything accurately. I reckon that additional jobs at Southend will be limited to those required for the operation of a 4th based aircraft.

I was sorry to see you described as someone who "can't wait to have a knock at SEN". I've always found your posts thoughtful and well informed while accepting that other views on matters can also exist. Oh, and I agree the Echo story is "hogwash". Nothing new there though.

I agree that the story in the Echo is hogwash, as per usual. easyJet's own advert though does name SEN specifically:

Primary Location:
United Kingdom-London-London Southend Airport
:
https://easyjet.taleo.net/careersect...=GMT%2B01%3A00

As to how many cabin crew are involved I would say it would be less than 20 for one additional A320........

Has it actually been announced that a 4th easyjet aircraft will be based at Southend or is a 319 being replaced by a 320? Where did the 320 story come from? I guess that only requires one extra crew member if true per leg. I know someone heard something on the radio but that seems like weeks ago about a 4th aircraft.

SEN has just spent several millions on re-surfaced taxiways and an extended apron with an additional 4-5 bays for A320s. Whether that is future proofing or based on contractual information remains to be seen.

I'm sure Andrew Tinkler stated weeks ago, perhaps in the Irish press I'm not sure, that an agreement has been signed with easyJet to base a 4th aircraft at SEN for summer 2018.

Long Stay 2

I have been to have one of my regular looks around this morning and the work is really progressing well on the extension to the long stay 2 car park. I am not very good at judging area but I reckon it could almost be doubling in size. The work is progressing very quickly; three or four days ago still being leveled and now there is a lot of tarmac laid. The far end of it (as far as I can tell) is going to very close to the end of runway 23. They're really gearing up for, hopefully, a big increase in passengers requiring parking.
Glad to hear that the 4th aircraft is now definite.

Southend seems to anticipate demand and puts in the infrastructure so it is ready when it is required, which is the way to do it.

I can think of one airport that for the last 20 years waits until it is over capacity and then plans for expansion which takes a few more years to actually go in although in its defence its infrastructure projects are to a bigger scale.

I flew from Southend today. Exceptionally painless at every stage.
The bourgee thing Is ok. Nothing special. Lakers looking a bit battered and tired but hardly surprising the abuse it gets especially now the holidays are upon it..
Flights well staggered to keep the hordes moving ..
Staff excellent throughout
And whoever was flying the easyJet flight into Mahon this evening needs a pat on the back for the smoothest landing I've ever experienced !

Fascinating news regarding the three E195. The relationship between between Stobart and Flybe continues to intertwine. So, presumably, it will work something like this: Stobart will lease aircraft to Flybe who will provide the aircraft Stobart require on an ACMI basis in order for Stobart to operate flights as a Flybe franchisee.

A while back I was rightly savaged on this thread for talking about Flybe's risk in providing the brand for Stobart to operate the 'new' routes. No risk at all seemed to be the consensus. I wonder if there's been a shift following this news?

The plan published a few months ago was that Stobart would be placing the ERJ on their own AOC later this year.

gosh in my Essex born Yoof late 60's/70's with mum and dad used to go to southend airport on a summers evening Fri or Sat to 'watch the planes' and have a drink in the bar or a full meal - as one did back then

Channel Viscounts BAF carvairs all lined up off to holiday destinations like far flung Palma Gerona Perpignan Dinard Basel Rotterdam and Ostend (many pax then got on a coach tour holiday to Spain Italy and Austria)
Lyons Tours were a huge Channel Airways customer
The 1-11 made an appearance for Channel in summer 1967 but the locals soon sent that packing to Stansted #TOONOISY

But Tom Hill Holidays and Pontinental used Transeuropa Caravelles to/from Palma and IBZ from SEN

back to today - Just reading about EZY's possible expansion into SOU with A320's (SOU Southampton)
I cannot see them being able to operate to/from there without payload limitations and underselling - I heard that Ops from SEN suffered the same - can anyone concur please

does the new A320Neo offer better short field performance?

There is a short field option for the A320neo available apparently, whether that's relevant to EZY's order - I've no idea. But it's an interesting point you raise, especially with the extra 6 seats on the new aircraft and being added to the existing A320's. Plus the 30 A321 on order. I can't see an issue for SEN in the short to medium term, but once the A319's have gone?

It would interesting to hear from someone who can speak with authority about the performance of the new aircraft and possible implications for SEN.
