Neile1- Why pity that LGW has reopened?... Or would you rather inconvenience passengers just so your beloved airport can get a few hundred extra passengers through the doors ? I'm sure they wouldn't agree with you.

We need all we can get, I was hoping even some of my flights would divert. Now just concentrate on your really big airport and leave us little upstarts alone! (Or more accurately - Naff Off!).

Wow, what a pleasant response from you Neile1. For the record I don't support any particular airport. I work for an airline which has a duty of care to its passengers when their flight diverts and also picks up considerable costs in doing so.
Why has pprune become so tribalistic? Maybe that's a question for another thread.

Yes NickBarnes, at the end of the day safety is number one in everyone's book.

First time passing through the airport this morning, shocking bad service, check in on a laptop, ticket agent did not know how to check in stby pax.

Quote of the day from member of security staff, at pax central search to an irate Easyjet pax in the very long line for scanning, caused by a lack of staff.

If you don't like the wait, F*** off, and don't bother flying. Nice.

Terrible service because the staff didn't know how to deal with a stand-by passenger? Somewhat exaggerated i think. As for queues at security, I have this month passed through Frankfurt, Singapore, Christchurch, Sydney and Melbourne; it's the same there....patience is required...and I was not on a cheap stand-by ticket.

diversional excitement

Whilst I do not support rude personal remarks on any forum, I do understand the excitement of receiving diversions and the ultimate disappointment when all or some don't come. In the days when airlines like Caledonian, BUA, BIA, Danair, etc used to divert into Southend when Gatwick was below limits, there was always an amazing atmosphere amongst the spotters, ATC, handling agents, etc to receive extra aircraft and passengers, albeit there was no concern about the costs and inconvenience. I was working on Southend radar one afternoon and the London supervisor called to co-ordinate 8 Dan-Air diversions. The first one, B727, overshot from 2nm because of reducing RVR values, and diverted to Luton; others followed him. Big disappointment!
So I ask that some forum members to control their comments during such exuberance, or yet again the thread may be at risk.

While it is a terrible shame to see Flybe reduce the number of aircraft based at SEN and the Newquay flights sent to STN instead it is a big relief that most of the routes BE serve remain, and that they also run a "Mainline" service to the airport in the form of the Dublin route and not just the Stobart franchise. I am a massive fan of this airport and hope it succeeds (my grandparents live within walking distance of it. At least the ATR 72 will go to a good home (CityJet at Cardiff). I can see Stobart getting shot of all their ATR 42s before too long and operating a purely ATR 72 fleet.

I appreciate your post tophat27dt, I guess it depends on which side of the fence (diverting airline/diversion airport) you sit on as to whether or not it's exciting or a pain in the backside !

SEN Upgrades RFF Cover

I'm pleased to see that the RFF cover has been upgraded at SEN.

Category 6 now applies 0600-0000
Category 4 0000-0600
Upgrade to Cat 6 with minimum of 30 minutes notice.

Previously the cover was Cat 6 0600-0000 and only Cat 1 0000-0600 with 12 hours notice needed for an upgrade to Cat 6.

LGW should have second Runway. It is ridiculous it still the busy single runway in the world. So LGW and LHR is needing extra runway in case there is emergency crash on runway that cause problem backlog traffic in and out.

That's excellent news. An encouraging sign that the management are thinking straight again.

Wonder if this was pressure from Easyjet? It was only a few days ago that one of their aircraft ended up at Gatwick as it was late in.

The ATR 42's will be around for a while yet!
They'll be operating the Kerry and Donegal PSO routes from Dublin, DUB-IOM, CFN-GLA & the morning service from DUB-EMA for 2015 anyway

Excellent point, forgot about them getting the PSO contract. Will that require both aircraft?

According to ATIS, SEN is closed UFN.

Do they normally close on NY eve or has there been an incident?
