The only other problem i can foresee could be in the international arrivals hall, with there being only two baggage carousel"s, this could cause problems in the future when two or three aircraft arrive at similar times, leading to possible congestion and perhaps passengers waiting outside or even kept on aircraft.I know a lot of people on short breaks only travel with hand luggage but there is still a lot that do travel with cases, i wonder if there is room to expand the baggage reclaim area?.

aurigny - as far as I can remember, Luton has a rather limited number of carousels and manages (not very well) to deal with far more passengers than Southend. Certainly worthy of consideration, but perhaps a few years before it needs to be addressed in a significant way ?

If necessary the baggage reclaim area could be expanded because it is located at the far northern end of the terminal where there is plenty of space available.

The critical factor is not only the number of belts but the length of the belts.

I've just seen the Budapest arrival and counted 43 off it. I did get distracted at one point but I'm pretty sure it was 43. Only the second or third day of the route operating so I wouldn't have thought that was too bad. Any thoughts, anyone?

I think at this stage in the start ups, 40% loads are okay; I can remember flying many times in the beginning with VLM FK50 fro LUX to LCY with 12 pax; they stuck to it and got full loads within one year.
It's all about promoting a new route, convincing people to use SEN instead of other airports, and after 12/18 months we will have routes that succeed and those that will fail. Only 4 of the 11 routes have started. Let's hope the others are successful.

43 at this stage is very good, as you would expect most pax on this route to be originating from SEN and it's only two days since the first flight out. The real test comes next week and beyond, will 43 become 83 and can it be sustained.

well I think a week to fill a plane is a little ambitious - i'd give it 3-6 months and hope to see a positive trend over that time frame ... but i think the numbers are OK. the Milan numbers have got off to an excellent start ...

Budapest did a fair bit of promotion work which was good to see, including a ticket competition.

I see from the departure board that that flight BE45J is scheduled for departure to Southampton at 13:30. What's that all about, then?

DC3 Dave in the past when they set the price that high it's because the flight is not operating and they want to stop people booking it. However, looking online it looks pretty full so the price is actually because of high demand (for a change!).

...or it could be that they were selling tickets for the capacity of the E195 and it has today been changed to the E175 meaning the aircraft suddenly has become full. Either way it should indicate a healthy load factor.

So why the change? Is this just a temporary aircraft or was the E195 required for an SOU service, or maintenance at Exeter?

For your info, the CAA Stats office have replied to my enquiry about no SEN figures showing for 2017, and she assured me they now have the figures for Jan/Feb and will be online by this Tuesday.
