cumbrianboy - The apron and taxiway reconstruction scheme was accepted by Rochford Council as a permitted development. This bypassed the public consultation process, hence there was no need to publish plans, and that is why none can be found. The first opportunity to view the changes may come with the publication of the updated AIP plates .

Type not new to Flybe as we know but I guess isn't it a new development in Stobart's world. Could be wrong but did I read somewhere possibly on here that they are basing a pair of 95s at SEN? In Stobarts eyes it might constitue as a fleet

Hi
Yeah I checked the AIP and was surprised there's no temporary plates.

Time will tell I guess!

Thanks for the reply.

Which code for an executive decision was taken (for political reasons), no?

The ad for E195 captains has been out for a while.

It's for when the aircraft come onto the Stobart AOC later this year.

Well, there is the occasional lull in activity during the day (for now!).

Does SEN offer any advantages for training? Is the short, narrow runway just the right challenge for a greenhorn pilot?

I'm sure the airport welcome the revenue for very little effort.

No. Nothing to do with politics or executive decisions. All designated airports in the UK (and that means airports with annual turnover greater than £1 million) benefit from the provisions of the General Permitted Development Order which forms part of the Town and Country Planning Act . The GPDO allows the development of specified airport infrastructure works without the need for planning consent. The applicant is required to consult the planning authority whose role is to determine whether the application complies with the terms of the GPDO. If it is compliant then the development must be allowed to go ahead.

Be interesting to see if the airport will recognise and promote it! Southampton have already confirmed their route to the public. 2x weekly seems a sensible initial frequency.

SEN Website

tophat27dt.......absolutely no disrespect to you whatsoever, but it doesn't look as though your e-mail to SEN (your post #4351) has had any effect at all. Their "places we fly to" section of the website still shows Gran Canaria but fails to mention Ibiza and Murcia at all! So, tws123, it will be little short of a miracle if they actively promote Powdair and Sion as hoped for in your recent post. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

I can understand the airport having a policy regarding start-up airlines with their questionable chances of success, but for Ibiza and Murcia not to be on the website is just appalling. Also still lacking a decent interactive route map, an updated picture which isn't a DLR station but the actual SEN station, plus a terminal map and an update to the shops available or coming soon. Basic stuff really that would make things 'simply easier' as they would say!

Powdair

The Echo's picked it up fairly quickly.

"Skiers' airline" Powdair says it will fly twice a week from Southend Airport (From Echo)

I never even received a reply from LSA to my email. I will write again this evening before I jet off for three weeks holiday. Also, there are still no January passenger stats on the CAA site, although February figures are there. I did email the lady again because she promised all would be done by Monday evening.
Regarding the Sion flights, I will wait until LSA confirm it. No doubt a local enthusiast contacted the Echo and they included the news.

I was reading the posts regarding the plans for the work taking place at the airport. On the Rochford Council site I found the satellite image of the airport pre-Stobart. It's easy to forget how much the airport's changed in a relatively short time.

The plan is different to the satellite image. Click on Aerial.

Rochford

Powdair

Slightly more detail from the Echo....

"Skiers' airline" Powdair says it will fly twice a week from Southend Airport (From Echo)

DC3 Dave - the image you have supplied is not exactly pre Stobart as it shows both the new control tower and the railway station, both of which I believe were Stobartisms. However, there is no denying, there have been great leaps forward over the last few years and particularly since March this year. Long may it continue!

SEN Observer

We're either looking at different images - or I need to go to Specsavers!

Ah Ha! The plan is different. Click on Aerial.
