CityJet
Well the rumour is a March 2017 start for CityJet, which would link in with their advertising for SSJ100 pilots, with training commencing in January 2017 (permanent contracts - Europe based).

VOLOTEA
Mikkie4 - I thought all along that it was going to be Volotea. Am I wrong? What change of mind do you mean? I'm not being picky; I just don't follow your post.

Really? I was speaking to an easy based Southend crew just the other day who had heard rumblings alongside these lines! There are a few things I have heard concerning next summer ops at Southend that may keep the 'what on earth do the management do all day' brigade quiet. Yes yes, I know don't believe anything until the aircraft land... But certainly I think it's fair to say that things are looking as positive for SEN as they have in quite a few years. Let's hope for some news regarding next summers ops soon!

Honestly the crew would be the last people to know.
SEN has a lot of potential but I understand one of the sticking points for a number of airlines is Stobart's instance on them handling everything at the airport.
If they do achieve the 2mppa then they will have to open the ground handling to tender under EU rules (providing they apply by then) but that doesn't solve the problem in the interim.

To clarify, when you are referring to 'them' do you mean Stobart. As in Stobart want to control everything? If that's the factual position, are there pros and cons to this from Stobart perspective, and what about the airlines perspective too? Thoughts?

That EU rule seems a bit too interfering. I would have thought that keeping everything 'in house' could allow for better negotiations with airlines? Just an example but look at the disruption caused when Swissport went on strike.

Sorry, by them I meant Stobart. They are the only ground handling team available and its a set package. Some airlines want some of the services and not the others or want others that Stobart don't/can't offer to their needs.
I guess there is also no price competition as you can't play the providers off against each other, hence why the EU introduce the rule but it only applies to bigger airports.

From an initial glance the EZY flights for Spring 2017 released this morning show a very similar SEN schedule to this year. One thing of note is that the daily PMI flights seems to be operated by a PMI based A320, with the exception of Tuesday and Saturday. As a result there seem to be a few unfilled slots for the SEN based aircraft so far.

Also it appears definite that Venice isn't returning, most of the current slots now seem to be used for Alicante with the exception of Fridays when the aircraft goes to Menorca. So Alicante is now up to 10 weekly.
