I use MME to AMS for convenience as it is a £12 taxi ride to my home. But it is a lavatory of an airport. I dont like the huge amounts of shops that you are virtually forced through at Manchester or Heathrow to get to a pub, but sometimes MME doesnt even open for a swift half before a flight.

The thing that continues to get me effing and blinding is the machine which you need to feed six quid into for the pleasure of walking 30 feet to security. It is an absolute insult to every passenger who flies out of MME. I loathe it with a passion.

As for cost, its OK if going to AMS and onward, but there are very few flights which dont require you to change at AMS. I cannot actually think of any. Other lo-co airlines do better out of East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and even Manchester, although Jet 2 floor there on an early morning can be a horror.

There have been a handful of occasions this year where there has been a movement every two minutes between 9-5 when the weather plays ball, in fact, a decent average day will produce a movement every 5-10 minutes. I know you and several others on here get their jollies off on taking cheap digs at the place at each and every opportunity, but the point is get your facts right first. Okay it's only resident tins and club aircraft hammering the circuit, but still!

There will be more football flights when the new season starts and a few less at Newcastle.

Thread alive..

Thanks Robert..just seeing if everyone is awake!!

Not sure how a movement every two minutes will be reflected in the house sale brochures for the development..now that will be a selling point?
Me thinks cross interests in play?

Yes more footie flights..lets hope the airport stays open for those late finishes

Want something to talk about? How about the air show that's now less than a fortnight away. We have a pathetic seven flying displays and 14 static displays (of which 10 are just based aircraft!!), compare this to the other two 'local' shows, Sunderland has 17 flying displays vs zero static and Yorkshire Air Fest has 11 flying with a possible further four unconfirmed and an unknown number of static. Both Sunderland and Yorkshire are still adding to their line-ups. I know Skylive are pushing a lot of the non-aviation stuff such as music but Yorkshire has that as well if not Sunderland too. Don't call it an air show if you can't deliver a display every 15-20 minutes.

It's embarrassing.

Sunderland 'static' - normally has half dozen or more full size replica's or decommissioned helicopters for you to look round on the cliff top park!

Robert, Skylive's answer to that would be that only the enthusiasts are complaining and they make up less than 5% of the total audience.

Though I dare say a good portion of the general public will also share your view!

Good memories... I worked for BD ( Midland ) bmi , until they closed. I live in NI but covered overtime regularly at MME at check in and boarding. I really enjoyed my trips there back in late 90s early 2000. It was a great little airport with BDs F100 and B737. Really enjoyed staying at the George hotel also. Shame it sounds like it has changed a lot. Would love to fly through but can't see that from Belfast.

Jetstar, as you seem to have some insight here, perhaps you could share what the break even point would be in terms of ticket sales?

don`t know what the break even point is a Skylive reported in the Evening Gazette on 13/5/16 that they had ticket sales of over 10,000 and hoped to sell the remaining tickets on the day making a 18,000 sell out
I think they are expecting too much to sell the remaing tickets on the day

not able to post the link to the Evening Gazette article

Why complain about the airshow? Seems like a pretty good show for a day for a small airport with a small populus. Admittedly the statics could be more varied, but what exactly were you hoping for, an A380 perhaps?

Lol, Red Arrows, Typhoon and parachute displays. Not bad like I say. Anyone know what the sim is? Might be worth going down if its commercial just to polish up my skills lol.

The Yorkshire Air Fest at Church Fenton has apparently been cancelled, so I guess that's one less to compete with!
