Sorry I didn't specify but my flight took place about six months ago so I believe it was NCL based crew.

Yes this forum has 'professional' and 'pilots' in the name but I'd guess a very small portion of users are professional. I am a professional pilot but welcome input from everyone.

I haven't always agreed with what EK77WNCL says but s/he is very knowledgable, especially for a 15 year (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) and can argue a point without it turning into an online bitch fight - some people could learn from this! I think some people's attitude toward him/her is a bit harsh.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I get the impression EK77WNCL wants to fly professionally, and should be commended for learning about the industry and contributing to the forums. EK7 may be a spotter for the time being, but in a few years that may turn into a career in the air!

Let's not forget s/he is 15. In only 36 months, s/he will be old enough to start flight training with one of the big 3.

Your comments about those who disagree with you about the "dirty, cramped, noisy & smelly" Dash 8s do you no favours.

Rather than disparage & dismiss the comments of those who disagree with you on such a relatively trivial subject as the comforts of a Dash 8 as being from "spotters" who know nothing about flying (unlike you), you should reflect on your own ignorant attitude.

Because, those who you describe as knowing nothing about flying are, in my case & probably in many other cases, seasoned professional flyers & ATCOS etc. of 40 years experience in ATC & flying; & whose sons & daughters are professional pilots (who are type rated & experienced in flying the Dash 8) & ATCOS.

Or, maybe your comments were an attempt at humour !

Does anyone know which aircraft are being 'acquired' or 'purchased' following the £155 million recently raised? Lots of rumours of Airbus aircraft on here but I heard through an employee it was either going to be something like 10 Dash's or more E175s. Can anyone confirm?

I flew from Dublin to Southampton a while back, I think it would have been a Dash8. I think.

Loved it. But Embraers are just brilliant.

Leg still hasn't enlightened us as to when the ex Easy 319's are arriving as asked by Set 1013 in post #6.

My guess is that we will either retain the dashes that are due to go back this year or we'll look at ATR's. I cannot see us going down the jet route apart from take delivery of some more E175's in the medium future.

I believe the 319's are being considered. Now if it actually happens that's another thing.

I wish Flybe and all who work therein success and there certainly is some energy around change, big changes taking hold especially with the start of the summer season . I was amazed as I heard someone talking about the purple Flybe planes flying into BHD during the week. Others responded by saying they saw it too. And these dont work in aviation...

From my perspective as an observer in BE as I don't work for/ with them is that they have exited some routes that costs are prohibitive on and LOCO's are working hard on eg LGW routes/ easyJet routes. The suggestion was that BE would specialise and focus on regional flying. Perhaps my interpretation of the various presentations that were made public was wrong. I got it that they would focus on thinner routes (and by inference suitable to lower fuel burn and size Q400s rather than to airbus / Boeing at a suitable frequency, FR ezy).

What the strategy says and is being rumoured here are quite different. Suggestions that 319s may be employed, suggests that longer sectors mag be in the offing , would this not be putting them in a much more coveted space by FR and EZY or is it that they feel the combination of larger ac for peak business routes would work with sun routes being served off peak? Can see the logic in that bit but feel it is quite knee jerk.

Suggestions of LCY are surprising to say the least. Firstly being such a high cost airport and secondly creating a gap in some markets ie I mean exiting markets like BHD London only to return in September as suggested means a gap of 5 months and time and money involved re-establishing that. LCY comes with it's own challenges not only peak and seasonality but the activity of other carriers in the same space .

Ultimately my concern is a lack of joined up thinking and coherent strategy but alas adding of Stobart Air is a vote of confidence in the brand and is progress for the company ...

I do hope all works out well for Flybe in the long run, I also hope they're not finished with their restructuring yet because it does seem a little disjointed thus far.

Personally I think it would be a mistake for them to go for the A319's and go business with LCY too, and with the recent announcement of Reykjavik and more leisure oriented routes etc the A319's may seem more likely, but I am worried they go both ways. An abstract way I can see it working is if the company were to split, one half business, one half leisure but I think that would be more hassle than it's worth.

And also thank you for the support, sorry for bringing the whole thing up but I couldn't let the comment slide, glad I'm not the only one who feels this way and I always like to try and be as mature as possible (but still need a sense of humour though). And yes I do hope to be a 'professional' pilot, Emirates is the dream.

I imagine more details of strategy will be published on 11 June. Patience is a virtue, but almost 2 months is a long while to wait. Are there any other planned presentations by board members to analysts between now and then ?
Bank equity analysts and fund managers will likely hear well before those working for Flybe

So does that include NQY-LCY if so ?

Anyone know out of interest if the PSO for NQY-LON is due to be announced soon ? Assume BE tendered for this ?

With outsourcing to Stobart why would the 319s necessarily be flown by Flybe? Lots of airlines in europe have Airbus on their AOC and many do acmi work.

New London City Operations

New Routes

London City to;

Dublin (4 daily)
Belfast City (3 daily)
Exeter (3 daily)
Edinburgh (4 daily)
Inverness (2 daily)

Total daily ops Mon-Fri x16 return sectors

All with business peak schedule and aircraft based at mentioned airports, reduced frequency at weekends starting Oct27th. Ops by Q400.

Interestingly, BA have tried and failed on LCY DUB and route was abandoned quickly after launch, though that was 2008, in the peak of the financial crisis. DUB is a very long established WX route, and I imagine that demand originates in DUB, it could take a while to make this work. DUB and BHD have been BE/JEA routes before...

EXT is a surprise move, will this spell the end of NQY LGW? EDI competes with BA who operate x8 daily. Surprised to see them going after a BA route, where BA are minority shareholder and where WX have recently exited the market, after a long time on the route.

Given the size of this operation, and aiming at some of LCY's largest routes, we can safely say BE has big designs on the LCY market.

Flybe Group plc
("Flybe" or "the Group")

FLYBE ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION WITH FIVE YEAR DEAL AT LONDON CITY AIRPORT

· Routes to/from London City to provide UK regions and Ireland with direct access to the Capital
· New routes from/to Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Inverness and Exeter to commence 27 October 2014, on sale now

In a major expansion that will see the airline significantly boost connectivity between the UK regions and Ireland to and from London, Flybe is delighted to announce that it has signed a five-year agreement with London City Airport (LCY) to commence domestic and international operations to/from London City with effect from 27 October 2014. Routes are on sale immediately.

Flybe will deploy five growth aircraft for its LCY operation. The aircraft will be based at three of its regional bases, and are expected to fly up to circa 500,000 passengers annually on a schedule that will see four times daily services from/to Edinburgh and Dublin, three times daily services from/to Belfast and Exeter and twice daily from/to Inverness.

These new Flybe routes will boost connectivity from the UK regions to London, providing direct links for customers in the regions to the heart of London's financial district. Flybe expects the new routes will also appeal to a significant number of City and Canary Wharf-based passengers who need to access the UK regions and neighbouring European destinations quickly and efficiently. For these customers whose travel plans are time-critical, Flybe's new services from LCY will prove especially convenient, being significantly faster overall than travelling via Heathrow or Gatwick, or travelling by road or rail. Routes to Edinburgh and Dublin are expected to be in particular demand.

Regional core services within the UK and from/to Ireland will be supplemented with off-peak leisure flights to selected Ski, Regional French and Northern Spanish destinations. More information about these routes will be announced in the coming weeks. Flights between LCY and Edinburgh, Belfast City, Dublin, Inverness and Exeter are now on sale at Cheap Flights & Low Cost Flight Tickets | Flybe UK

The agreement with LCY follows on from Flybe's successful launch of eight new routes from Birmingham and a further four new routes launched from London Southend with franchise partner, Stobart Air. It is also a major step forward in meeting the Group's stated strategic objective to expand its branded scheduled commercial operation by developing new routes and bases within the UK following its successful fund raise of £150 million last month.

Saad Hammad, Chief Executive Officer, Flybe, commented:

"Today's announcement is a significant landmark in the re-birth of Flybe. We are delighted to re-enter the London market at London's most convenient airport following a rigorous profitability analysis utilising our strict route assessment model.

"Dedicating five growth aircraft initially to these new routes is a major statement of intent and we look forward to building a successful and growing presence there over the coming years.

"Flybe is today already connecting over 7 million passengers a year across the UK and Europe. With a major London connection, we reaffirm our place as the UK's largest regional airline."

Declan Collier, Chief Executive Officer, London City Airport, confirmed the importance of the arrival of Flybe at the airport:

"London City Airport (LCY) is poised for significant growth in the next ten years - growth that will see it achieve 120,000 flight movements per annum, with an associated 6 million passengers by 2023.

"Today's announcement is an extremely important step on that journey - Flybe will bring an immediate uplift of up to half a million new passengers to the airport. In addition, Flybe's selection of routes serves to cement further LCY's status as the business traveller's airport of choice, underpinned by our 'location, convenience and speed' customer propositions.

"We look forward to a long and successful partnership."

IOM has disappeared from the provisional route list mentioend a few weeks ago.

I wonder where the 'five growth aircraft' are coming from? The announcemet does specify Q400's will be deployed.
